Nifty Nine Months

Cade is 9 months old!
Physical Changes
We went to the doctor for his check up.  He weighed in at 24 pounds (90th percentile) and is 31 inches tall (95th percentile).  Still a big baby!  He is also starting to get his 2 top teeth.  I bet they'll be in by 10 months.
Mobility
This kid is everywhere.   At 8 months he was army crawling and just starting to pull up.  Now he crawls "normal" and doesn't even think about getting up or down on things.  He moves easily from sitting to laying and back again.  He cruises all over the furniture.  One of his favorite things is to hold our hands and walk around.  I can go to the bathroom or down the hall and call to him and he comes to find me.  He even climbed up on a couch at the place we stayed over Memorial Day.  He's growing up a bit.

Eating
Cade has decided that graham crackers are amazing!  He is getting pro at feeding himself crackers and other small finger foods.  He has also decided that bottles are evil (literally overnight.  one day he took it fine and now, forget it!)  He is pretty good at drinking water out of a sippy cup but will only drink formula once in a while.  Usually he won't hold the cup by himself, but in the car the other day, he drank a whole cupful by himself.  Cade loves yogurt, cottage cheese, fruit and black beans.  I'm trying more and more to give him foods that we eat all of the time. Cade is sure to let us know when he wants more food.  He will sit in the high chair and yell in between bites until he is full.  We're working on manners :)
Sleeping
Cade wakes up around 6 am and takes 2 naps during the day.  He usually sleeps for about an hour and a half in the morning, between 8:30 and 10:30 and then another 1.5-2 hours between 1:30 and 3:30.  Bedtime is still between 6:30 and 7:00.  It isn't unusual for Cade to cry during the night, but just for a few minutes and he falls back to sleep.

Playing
Getting more fun!  Cade makes sure we don't have any full drawers or boxes around.  If anything is sitting on the couch or coffee table, he clears it off for us.

Cade loves to knock over towers, steal cell phones and climb on things.  He is always chasing Kirk or I around to see what we are doing and help out where he can.  I played hide and seek with Cade by throwing a blanket over him while he was sitting.  I ran around a corner while he pulled the blanket off and he looked around to find me.  He likes to look at books and sometimes sits and reads them out loud.  We still go for walks everyday and meet up with friends when we can.  When I put on my shoes and get the keys, he gets excited.  Cade has also made up a "game" he likes to play.  He has a ball that is easy to grab, with lots of holes in it.  He will hold it and wave it up and down until it flips out of his hand.  Then he will go chase it and get it and do it again.  If the ball is on the floor and we tell him to go get it, he knows what that means.
Other stuff
Cade talks all of the time and is starting to imitate a little bit. He will say mamama and da-da-da, but doesn't put any meaning to the words.
Other people still make Cade really nervous.  He cried almost the whole time at the doctor, even though they didn't give him any shots.

First Camping Trip

Kirk and I have been dying to get out and  go camping.  We headed out to Wall Doxey State Park, about 1 hour away.  We left right after dinner on Friday.  Unfortunately, this cuts out one of the best parts of camping:  dinner!--but it worked out better with our short time limit.
We found the place and it was nearly empty--just one other group camping.  We set up the tent and walked around a bit.  Luckily, there were hardly any bugs, just a few fireflies.

It took a bit of work to get Cade to sleep.  We ended up all crawling in the tent around 8:30 and taking turns patting his back until he finally passed out.  I was nervous how well he would sleep and if I would get kicked all night.  He did really well.  Cade did wake up about 5 times, but went right back to sleep with a binky and a pat on the back.  Kirk and I were woken up by rain sometime during the night, but luckily, it was just a sprinkle, not a real Mississippi rain storm.

Cade's favorite thing right now is to walk holding our hands!

The next morning we fired up our new Coleman stove and cooked some pancakes and bacon--a real camping breakfast.  We took the kayak down to the lake to do some fishing.  Kirk let me go out first and he got Cade to sleep for a nap.  When Cade woke up, we switched for a while.  Unfortuately, we didn't get any fish!  Just after lunch, we packed up and headed home, just as the rain set in again.

It was fun and gave us the confidence to go out again.  It was a quick trip, but I'm still happy that we were able to try it.  I'm glad that Cade is getting old enough to do something like this.  He loves being outside so much.  We're attempting to brainwash him young to enjoy the outdoors as much as we do!

Mommy's Little Helper

As I was putting clothes IN the dryer, Cade pulled them OUT of the dryer.  He sucked on each one as he grabbed it.  Maybe he thought that dried them out enough?

As I was folding the clothes, I stuck Cade in the laundry basket.  I tossed the socks in the basket (mostly at his head).  He loved it!

Before and After

Before:
Our pantry was a set of shelves set up in the hallway.  It worked great until Cade decided he wanted to play.  We were worried about the shelves tipping over on top of him.
Our coat closet near the front door:
 After:
3 trips to Lowe's, some new holes in the wall and a couple of hours' work.  Now it's a pantry.  This holds everything from the shelves plus some.
 Empty wall in the hallway.
