Here yesterday, Gone today

He wouldn't look at the camera, just kept staring at the doorknob

Now he wants that camera!
We gave Cade his first haircut yesterday.  His hair was reaching his eyebrows in front and nearly covered his ears on the sides.  What a handsome guy!

We also owned 2 cars yesterday and now we are down to 1.  We bought our green Civic right after we got married and it has traveled around with us.  A couple of weeks ago it started having problems. We decided over a year ago that we didn't want to put any more money into the car.   I decided that I wanted to know what was wrong before we got rid of it. Anyway, it turned out to be an $80 repair.  We decided to sell the car while it was running well.  I kind of hate selling it when it is doing well, but when a car is 15 years old, you never know when something major will break and I think we got really lucky with this last repair.  So I posted it on Craigslist this morning about 9:00. I got a call about 10:00 and a guy came to look at it and didn't want it.  At 11:30 another guy called and checked it out and by 1:00 I had the cash in hand and he had the keys.  Wierd.  Now it is gone!  We may have been able to get a bit more money for it, but I thought it was a fair price.  It just happened really fast!  We will be getting another car when we go out to Utah in September so until then, Cade and I are stuck with a stroller.

Grandma and Grandpa

My parents were here for a week in June.  They actually came the week before and dropped off Melissa before heading down to New Orleans to go on a cruise.  Then they came back here Saturday and stayed for a week.  The first night they came we ate some crawdads then went to a Memphis Redbirds (baseball) game.  Melissa and my mom had a hard time getting to the crawdads but they both ended up admitting they tasted ok.  More for the rest of us!

The game was scheduled to start at 6:05.  We got there on time and nothing was going on.  About 7:15, they announced the game would be starting late (duh) at 8:05.  2 hours late!!  At 8:15 the players started coming out to warm up and they said the game would actually be starting at 8:35.  Wow.  What a wait!  We stayed through the 4th inning and then left so Cade wasn't at our friends house too late.  The good news is that they let us trade in our tickets for a weekday game later in the season.  Since there weren't any more games while my parents were here, Kirk and I exchanged the tickets for 2 different games.

Sunday was Father's Day and it was fun to spend it with my dad.  We were able to skype with Lindsey and Alan and Kirk's parents.  Lindsey had this great idea of giving my dad a "Grandpa" t-shirt with the grandkids hand prints and foot prints on it.  He loved it.

Monday we went to Costco and spent all kinds of money :)  Kirk and I don't have a card anymore so we make the most of it when people come visit.
Tuesday we went swimming in the morning.  It was fun to see my parents and Melissa interacting with Cade.

Tuesday was also the day Cade decided Grandpa was the COOLEST person ever.  Cade wanted Grandpa to play with him, walk around with him and hold him.  It was really fun.

Cade also decided Grandma was scary which she didn't like very much.  Tuesday afternoon we went up to Memphis to ride the old trolley, see the Peabody ducks march and the mighty Mississippi River.  That night my mom, Melissa and I went to see Kirk play softball.

Wednesday took us back to Costco to buy a carseat we saw on Monday.  We got slushes at Sonic.  Funny side note:  we were drinking our slushes inside and my mom said she was getting cold so we went outside in the 95 degree weather to drink them.  whatever.  Kirk, my mom and I went to the temple that night.
Thursday we stayed home a bit more.  My dad and I went out for fried pickles because I've been wanting to try them.  Dad, Melissa and I went to Kirk's last softball game that night.
Friday my dad bought us donuts at Donald's and then Kirk took everyone Kayaking while I stayed home with Cade. They had a lot of fun.

We went to Kohls and bought earrings for the girls and shoes for Cade.  We met Kirk up at Gus's Famous Fried Chicken for dinner.  My dad described it as a little hole of a restrauant in a neighborhood that looked like it had been through a war.  Gus' chicken is the best though and people from all over the country eat there.  The chicken is spicy and crunchy and a meal is only $6.  Not bad.  We ended up leaving our stroller there and had to go back and pick it up that night.

Everyone left Saturday morning and we were sad to see them go.  Luckily we will be in Utah in August, so we don't have to wait too long to see them again.  We had a lot of fun with them here.  We played lots of games, ate good food and got to hang out and talk.  Cade loved the action and even got used to having people around.

Melissa's visit

We were lucky enough to have Melissa stay with us for a week while my parents cruised around the Carribbean.  We had a lot of fun doing crafts, playing and being together.  Melissa and I went and picked blueberries at a farm neaby one day.  Cade was a great sport and tagged along too.
We went swimming 3 times, shopping at JoAnns and made some good food too.  Melissa stayed with a sleeping Cade one night so I could go to Kirk's softball game.  The worst part for her was the fact that Cade took a few days to get used to her.

We used my Cricut to make a holiday decoration.  We used 3 frames to build a picture for each month of the year.  It took quite a bit of time, but we got them all done.  Melissa really got into it and it was fun.

I'm glad she was able to come stay and hang out!

Minnesota Trip

We took a little trip up to Minnesota last week.  Cade and I flew out early Wednesday morning (our flight LEFT at 6 am!)  We made it to Minneapolis around 10:30 and Kirk's dad picked us up and we headed to the middle of nowhere--Mora, MN where Grandma and Grandpa live.  Cade had never met any of Kirk's grandparents and since they were having a 60th wedding anniversary party, we thought this would be a good time.  Tom, Lisa and Connor drove out from Utah to meet us and be with the family.  Kirk was able to take a couple of days off work and flew up on Thursday morning.  We mostly spent Thursday hanging out.  We went for a walk, played at the park and went out to lunch.

Friday I went with "the guys" fishing and left Cade with Kirk's mom.  I was a little nervous.  I'd never left him for so long and this was in a new place with people he didn't know very well.  Lisa said he only cried when she changed his diaper though, and that's normal.  We had fun fishing.  Kirk caught a boatload of northern pike, I caught one (but at least I got that)  and Connor caught some zzzz.

Saturday was the big party and we spent the morning setting up and getting food ready.  We got to see some more family and hang out with Aunt Marsha, Uncle Steve, Kyle, Cody (cousins), Aunt Jennifer, Uncle Jack and Miles (cousin).

Grandkids and Great-Grandson

Sunday morning Kirk had to head back home.  Tom, Lisa, Connor, Cade and I went to Lisa's mom's cabin on Love Lake in Wisconsin.  It is a beautiful place with an awesome lake.  We went swimming a few times.  Tom took Cade and I on a golf cart ride (Cade loved it!).  We picked some fresh strawberries and played some card games.  Cade did really well with Skeeter (Tom and Lisa's dog) too.  I wish I had a picture.  Cade liked to chase Skeeter around.  After a few days Cade found Skeeter's empty bowl on the floor and liked to tip it over and push it around the floor.  Skeeter wasn't too sure of this and kept a close watch on him the whole time.

Great Grandma Maxson (Lisa's mom) and Cade

We found an old rocking chair just Cade's size.  I think he had more fun pushing it around than sitting in it!

Lisa's sister Molly came up on Tuesday and we took the speedboat out.  Molly and Lisa both did waterskiing.  I went for a wild ride on the tube and then tried kneeboarding.  It took me a bit to get going, but then I made it around the lake twice.  It was pretty fun and I was sore afterward!  The only downer to this part of the trip was the heat.  We were over 90 each day with significant humidity and no AC.  We left Wednesday morning and hung out at Molly's house before Cade and I had to go to the airport.

Cade and I had 3 seats to ourselves on the way home and he loved climbing all over them.  He fell asleep during our layover in Chicago, woke briefly during loading and take off and then slept the rest of the way home.  When we got off the plane,  I had to put him in the stroller, walk to baggage claim, get our suitcase, put him in the carseat and then his crib at home and he never moved.  We got home around 11:30 p.m.  I was kind of sad to miss the fireworks on the 4th, but we did get so see several as the plane was taking off and landing which was kind of cool.

I was nervous about taking Cade on this trip.  He has had such a hard time dealing with strangers and we would be seeing a lot of them.  He did really well.  He cried when I left the room, but only if he noticed.  He loved walking around with Grandma and Grandpa and Uncle Connor and was fine with them taking him places and playing with him.  I'm really glad that we all had the chance to go, even though Kirk couldn't stay as long.
