Done and blocked.

Here's my second major attempt at something lace-like. I did not run out of yarn this time. In fact, I have quite a bit left over. Maybe I'll knit a sock yarn scrap blanket someday.

The pattern is Simmer Dim, by Gudrun Johnson, and I used Malabrigo Sock in the color archangel. LOVE this colorway. The pattern name translates to 'evening' or 'twilight' and I think that is very descriptive of this colorway -- a lovely purple-orange sunset, maybe with some clouds on the horizon. I lost patience with the lace pattern at the bottom, so I bound off about 4 rows sooner than the pattern instructed. It's probably smaller than I'd really like, but there is no way on God's green earth that I am unpicking that picot bind off.

Sneak Peek.

Here's a tiny peek at the beginning of some baby knitting. I'm pretty certain the mama-to-be reads this blog, and I want it to be a surprise(ish) -- so the photo is greyscale! The color would definitely give away who it is for. Besides my niece, I know FOUR other babies due at the end of July/early August. So there will be lots of baby knitting 'round these parts this summer!

Alternative to swimming in the pool.

No water in the pool? Mom only gave you a bucket of water to play with? No problem! Just climb right in!

Foolproof way to beat the Mondays!

Get sick and stay home!

Roommate had a cold last week, so I suppose it's only fitting that I should catch it after having a relatively healthy winter. I have spent most of the day asleep so I'm feeling better enough now to go into the office, pick up some work and bring it home for this evening's entertainment.

In other news, I did finish the second of a pair of socks that have been languishing all winter. This means I can start something new on my Signature sock needles. Yay!

The yarn is from Macek Designs, originally an Etsy seller who made three colorway inspired by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. This one is called Resurrection Stone. I already made a pair of socks in the Invisibility Cloak colorway, way back in 2009. The yarn is sturdy, the yardage is generous (or maybe I just have small feet) and the colors stay vibrant even after many washings.

Long time, no blog.

So, it's been awhile, and I don't have any pictures of actual finished stuff to show you. That's what comes of being too busy for my own good. In the meantime, I am working on a Featherweight Cardigan (Rav link here) out of Malabrigo Laceweight, which is super dreamy to knit with, in the color "water green." It's a lovely seafoam color that can't quite be captured with the camera on my phone.

I'm making a couple adjustments, because that is how I roll. I'm making it longer, and I am probably going to knit the collar in 1x1 rib instead of stockinette so it won't curl. There are so many beautiful variations on Ravelry where people have done lace and other super pretty things, but I think I will probably keep it simple so it's a little more versatile.

Also, I wanted to take a moment to say something nice about Hannah Fettig of Knitbot, who has designed 3 of the last 4 sweaters I've knitted, and actually also designed the pattern I'm using for my dad's vest. I LOVE HER PATTERNS. They are clear, concise, well-written and thorough. The styling is classic. It's all stuff I will wear until it falls apart. I know I never blogged good pictures of my Lakehouse cardigan, but I have worn it once a week since I finished it in January, and usually again on the weekends. I get compliments on it every time I wear it. Also the yarn is holding up beautifully to such heavy use. It's only pilling on the sleeves where my arms rub against the body. So, good substitution on my part. Go me!

In other news, we now know the gender of Oliver's new sibling. When SHE arrives in August, she will have a wide selection of knitwear to choose from, along with this:

I am SO EXCITED to have a niece!
