Buried Alive

This is my clever mom trick to get Kate to help me with the laundry....We make it a game....Every Monday morning is "Laundry War". She gets so excited to get out of bed on Mondays because she gets to pelt me with laundry. Now I know some of you are saying, "yuck, dirty laundry", but I try to look at it on the positive side, Someone else has collected all the laundry and brought it downstairs for me, she usually helps sort after the war too. Now if I could just figure out a game to get it all put away after it is clean.....that would be good.....

Graduation

This past week was filled with Graduations. Monday 5th grade. Tuesday 8th Grade, and Wed a gymnastics banquet. All and all a great week at the Aase house.

Third Grade Picnic

It was fun to spend the day with Kate and her friends outside for “Survivor Day” Their t-shirts all said …. “I Survived The Third Grade” …. If they only new how much harder it was going to get…….

Fifth Grade Dinner Dance

I must admit I was a little skeptical of the idea of a “Fifth Grade Dinner Dance”. Kids are growing up way to fast these days. But there was no way Abby was going to let us get out of this one. Abby is the social one and had been talking about this dance almost since the day we moved in. It was parents and kids dance. I was not sure if any of the kids were going to dance, but boy was I wrong. What a great age to have a dance, they all had so much fun. It was such a kick watching Abby and all of her friends. I would just love this age to last a little longer.

Kate's Arm

I almost titled this post...

"Things not to do the day before your Birthday....Cartwheel in the back yard"

One Saturday evening early in May, Abby came in from the back yard and just gave me “that look” She was seriously rolling her eyes at the Drama Queen Kate. I went out to see what was a miss and sure enough she was on the ground crying in pain.
Mom.......“Kate just come into the house and lay on the couch so I can see what is wrong”
Kate......“No, I don’t want to move, I just want to die here”
Mom.......“ Kate I will just carry you”
Kate......“NO I DON’T WANT TO MOVE”
Mom.......“Well maybe I should take you to the Hospital”
Kate......“NO, NOT THE HOSPITAL”
Mom.......“Kate if it hurts that bad we have got to get the doctor to look at it”
Kate......“But PLEASE not the hospital where they run, I AM NOT GOING TO RUN” (I think she has seen too many hospital scenes in the movies where the doctors are always running”

Well after much ado, she did have a radial head fracture on her arm. She got a bright green cast and was out of gymnastics for 3 weeks. I asked the doctor for his card, I have a feeling that we may be back……

Garage Sale

Garage Sale

Always hard to prepare for
Never sure how the day is going to turn out
Hope for the best.
And this year
Success

Flemming was a bit of a non believer, he was excited to get clutter out of the house, but did not think we could make a lot of money doing it. He told me what ever we made would go toward a new grill. He was thinking maybe we would make enough for a Hibachi, but no……We made enough for a GRILL…..Thank You Garage Sale .....Happy Summer Cooking

Pointe Shoes

Since we moved here, Maddie has had her share of appointments, i.e.: Orthodontist, Dentist, Oral Surgeons, Endodontic Dentist, more Orthodontist, Doctors, X-rays, Allergist……You get the idea,… But the appointment that she and I enjoyed the most was the one to get her Pointe Shoes!!!!

It is official, I have a dancer in Pointe Shoes, I am so proud of her and her determination. It is a big deal for a dancer to be ready for Pointe Shoes, and boy is her mom proud of her and all of her hard work to get there.

The only time I have had to make an appointment to shop was for my wedding dress. I was so surprised how much personal attention went into fitting these shoes. But at the end of the day I had one happy girl.

Spring Break

My family took a much needed vacation to the beach for a week. We have not had a beach vacation for a while and since last summer we basically thought we would be moving, we did not plan a vacation. So as promised to our children.....off to the beach we went. Flemming was saying the whole time we were planning "it is going to be too cold, too cold" and sure enough it was not ideal temperatures. But the kids still enjoyed the water and we enjoyed being together as a family and enjoyed the company of friends (two other families traveled with us). We had a total of 19 people on the trip. But the house was right on the beach and plenty of room to spread out. We were in Destin FL, which offered many other activities besides the beach, but for the most part the beach kept us entertained. Pictures to follow

Good Bye Old Friend

I, for some strange reason, seem to be surround by friends and a husband who love to throw things away. I mean it is the highlight of the day. Flemming can not wait for garbage day and finds it insulting if we do not have a full can. He loves to eat the last of the cereal so he can throw the box away. Things like that......Now I know my readers and I know that most of you are like that and yes you probably all know that that is just not me. I would not call my self a hoarder, but I do not get that same thrill. Actually sometimes it even pains me......like today

My family is growing up. I guess that is what kids do. I have had so much fun with these two items that we are giving away today. We really do not need them as much as we need the space in the garage, but some how I feel like I am giving away a piece of me. Silly I know, and convince me that I am not giving away my memories, and than one of you thrower awayers probably need to tell me just to "get real" or something like that..... So for now, I will just post a picture and some memories and say "Good-bye old friend, you sure have been good to us"

We bought this when Maddie was just 1. We have had a lot of fun family bike rides with this. This is a two person seat, but really with our girls it would just hold one and then all the stuff that they would bring along. When I am old and grey I hope there is a Burley for adults that my kids can pull me behind with their bikes.

I call this a tag-along-bike. Flemming bought it for me for Mother's Day 2006, so it has not been in the family as long as the Burley......but still has great memories. I used this with Kate for two summers. She could ride a bike with training wheels, but just could not keep up so this was the solution. I would highly recommend this bike. I think it really taught her how to keep her balance. In fact she got so good on sitting back there that she would multi task, take drinks, do her nails, listen to music. Good times, were had on this bike.

So off they go, some of my favorite things. I know that they are going to a great family that will hopefully enjoy them as much as we did, and I am off to look for my next favorite bike accessory. Most likely it will be a car rack for 5 bikes....but how are we going to bring all the "stuff" with us on our bike trips :)???????

Crystal Trees

It has been a while since I have been in a good ice storm. Despite some of the traffic headache it can cause, it really is an amazingly beautiful sight !!! I kept telling the kids it was like being in Narnia and half expected the Ice Princess to appear. One day we had clear blue skies that helped the beauty of it all. I was out with Maddie and she said "now I know why the color for faith is White*, because this white is so perfect" Gotta love that kid!!

(* At church each of the Young Women ages 12-18 have 8 different values that they concentrate on. Each value has a color associated with it......thus the Faith being White Comment)

Here are a few pictures of our "Crystal" Trees

Kate's Fort

The first thing Kate said when she saw all the moving boxes was, "MAN am I going to have a great fort". I really thought we were passed that stage and had no desire for the mess, so we just kept saying, "No Fort". Well about day 3 of the snow days last week, I finally gave in. She was so thrilled with her fort. Now the tricky part will be convincing her that it needs to go......

Where do I begin when I have taken such a long blogging break, I am sure I am going to have to up my game if I want any readers to come back, but who am I kidding, this has never been about my readers, but about keeping a record for myself and keeping my friends and family updated, hopefully I will be able to continue those goals and not put anybody to sleep.

So lets say, anything below this post is a review of the last two months, anything above will be current, I may even try and post more often, we will see what happens…….

“What have you been doing?”

I guess that would be the natural question to ask someone who you have not heard from for a while. Well I guess I have just been trying to get my life back, and

v unpacking the 250 boxes that we brought with us

v getting the kids acclimated (easier said than done with three emotional girls, but they are getting there).

v Trying to find a place for all of the things that are in the 250 boxes.

v Planning a great garage sale for everything that does not fit in the place it was suppose to fit or for everything that Flemming has “grown weary” of, (I hope he does not put me in the Garage Sale)

v Waking up everyday to see if school has been canceled due to the ¼ inch of snow that has falling.

v Thinking about all the fabulous post that I will post if I was going to ever use my Blog again.

New Game Alert!

Our friends taught us a new game. But beware you can only get it on Amazon.com.

It is called Qwirkle. I love it, it can be enjoyed on many levels. It is a bit of a cross between Dominoes, Scrabble, and Set.

So if you are looking for a new family game, you should try it. We love to play family games, so please comment about what games your family likes to play :)

Facebook

What a fun little software application. I know it was invented to keep college students in touch, but boy I have been enjoying it. If you want to be my friend, just ask. Flemming and Maddie have accounts too.

Some people call me a bit obsessed with it. I just like to say that I am a well informed friend. But I do keep tabs as to who is on-line and when but really not that obsessed. J

“Wow, I Hope you have a place to put all this stuff”

That was the comment the movers made, as they spent one full day putting everything into this truck.

That’s a big truck.

I wish I could find the picture of the first moving truck we ever used. One year after we were married, D.C. to Minnesota, lets just say it was small enough that we drove it ourselves and pulled a car behind it.

I guess we have accumulated a few things. (including 3 kids, they are not in the truck, they came with us)

Saying Good Bye

It is never easy to do, and this was no exception. Although for three years I told myself that we will be moving, I thought it would be easier, because I knew it was coming, but no….still heart ache. But only because we had good friends and great memories. Our favorite saying all fall was, “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard” And that is exactly how we felt.

A few days after Christmas we were able to get together with a couple of friends for one last night out. They presented us with an original composition written by the Taylor Family. I have posted the words here, hopefully you are familiar with the Christmas Carol. “Must Be Santa” (if not you can find it on You tube or click here)

Christmas

What a great Holiday. I have to admit that I was a big boohooer when Flemming said that we would not be decorating at all for Christmas due to selling our house. I thought this was going to be the biggest wasted Christmas ever. I was wrong, we had a grand time.

We stayed at Jan and Laci’s beautiful 1 year old home, plenty of room in their guest suite, we had fun watching movies and playing with our gifts and just enjoying our last few days together.

Other events kept us busy during December. There was the Catanan –A-Thon with 3 tables filled with friends. They all came with the intentions of letting us win since we were moving and all, but they couldn’t pull it off and the Aases did not walk away victorious that evening. It just will give us more encouragement to come back for a visit.

There was also the annual Cinnamon Rolls Breakfast on Christmas Eve morning, the venue changed but the menu was the same and it is something that we really look forward to. We may even start that tradition in our new home.

There was the BYU Football game. Loved the company, did not like the end results of the game.

And lots of other fun December events. It is such a busy time of year, but we keep it busy doing activities that we love and look forward to each year. Watch out next year though because we are really going to “Deck The Halls” because of our lack of decorations this year.

(Our Christmas pictures without decorations)

You want your Trampoline Where????

A few days before Christmas, one of the Neighbors got a big surprise. His parents bought our trampoline…..We sold it because the moving company would not move it……So the problem became, how to get the trampoline to its new location.

Here come the LDS movers. How else can you round up 15 people on a Saturday morning. So off they go carrying the Trampoline up the street.

Half way up the street they decided to dump a little of the extra weight and shoveled off the snow.

All was going well until we realized we had to get the trampoline, OVER the fence. But nothing stops the LDS movers. Up and Over Boys

Thanks everyone for all your help. I am sure the neighbor boy is going to Love It.

We are NOT going to miss this
