Happy NEW Year!

May it be a new year for you and me.

In all honesty, i'm sure there are some things we would not like to carry into the new year and some things we would want to do differently or try out in the new year.

It's not called the new year for nothing, so let's live it with anticipation and hope.

Kermit tells you how ;-)

RAINBOW CONNECTION
Kermit the Frog

Why are there so many songs about rainbows
and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
and rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it.
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Who said that every wish would be heard
and answered when wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that and someone believed it.
Look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us star gazing
and what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

All of us under its spell. We know that it's probably magic.

Have you been half asleep and have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that called the young sailors.
The voice might be one and the same.
I've heard it too many times to ignore it.
It's something that I'm supposed to be.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

B.O.Y.S.

We have 2 honoured guests at our home today. In fact they will sleepover as well. One is Jasper, who is back from Perth on his annual holiday. The other is Nattie, the boys' good fren.

I didn't realise it was nearly a year ago when we had them at our place, until i look it up in my blog. Maybe this will be an annual thing, lol

The above is a break "forced" by me. Since we returned from church this afternoon, they had been at the games non-stop till dinner time. After dinner, i told them to rest for a while before starting their gaming session again. Now you see them,

Now you don't, lol. They disappeared into the rooms as soon as they double confirmed that i said it's ok to resume, hahahahaha. "Uncle Fai" or "papa" is often called for. "I got attacked by invisible troops!" or "Can you help me with this?". Of course they don't call for me lah. I only yell instructions like "Take a break, boys", "Dinner time boys", "Take a shower boys", "Brush your teeth boys", "No rude words boys", etc etc. LoL

The significant other fleeting from one room to the other.

Aiyah, don't understand their obsession with games. Boys.

Thank you for reading. Excuse me, i have to go back to my FB games ;-) Heng ah, my sis' laptop is still with me. In MY room. LoL

He Is The Reason

I'm so blessed this Christmas day or rather nite. A get-together with brothers-and-sisters-in-Christ at the Choys, so filled with great food (courtesy of wonder chef Mrs Choy, who else) and great company.

I'm blessed because it is only through Him that i'm surrounded with such love, joy and peace (ok, not very peaceful for the Choys' neighbours, lol)

The Cheongs are deeply grateful. May The Good Lord Bless You Abundantly.

As little children, we would dream of Christmas morn
And all the gifts and toys we knew we'd find
But we never realised a baby born one blessed night
Gave us the greatest gift of our lives

CHORUS:
We were the reason that He gave his life
We were the reason that He suffered and died
To a world that was lost He gave all He could give
To show us the reason to live

CHORUS

As the years went by we learned more about gifts
The giving of ourselves and what that means
On a dark and cloudy day a man hung crying in the rain
All because of love
All because of love

We were the reason that He gave his life

We were the reason that He suffered and died
To a world that was lost He gave all He could give
To show us the reason to live

I've finally found the reason for living
It's in giving every part of my heart to Him
In all that I do, every word that I say
I'll be giving my all just for Him, for Him

And ..

CHORUS

He is my reason to live...

2 nites ago at my mum's place celebrating the winter solstice festival (冬至).

Overheard conversation between 12-year-old Nephew No. 4 who has just been diagnosed to have flat feet and Ethan who has flat feet:

Ethan: Huh?

LoL

*heel bone angles inwards

Christmas Comes Early

This is church yesterday. The YA decorating the building for today's service. The adults' choir was doing their vocal warm-ups at that corner. Ah ah ah ah ah, or or or or or, ee ee ee ee ee

Aiyah, my pic doesn't do justice to the beautiful banner painted by Ryan and others in YA.

The youngest Won, in a moment of child's play. He quickly ran off when the choir marched into the auditorium with the song......what song huh? I think it was Joy to The World ;-)

Elsewhere in the building, the Praise Team was also rehearsing.

All prim and proper this morning ;-)

Errr, not so prim and proper afterall, hahahahaha

The adult choir rehearsing. Many husband-and-wife teams in there - Conductor and pianist (Wons), Kohs, Lees, Cangcos & Tans. The choir has been practising for months and they sound great !!

Look carefully at this pic. Ready?

Let's play Spot the Difference. You have my permission to circle the differences on your screen, LoL

I don't sit in front during church service = back-bencher ;-) But this morning bo pian was in front as i had a spot of narration to do. But good also lah, can take some photos when i'm not needed.

The Ignition Choir with their 3-song routine. Also very good. Say no good later kena scolding, LoL

It still feels a bit early for Christmas. Maybe i'm waiting for snow, wahahahaha

I appreciate all who gave themselves as gifts in this morning's service.

Love, Joy & Peace to You

Hope

2 nites back at a mall, the significant other asked me if i recognised the person we just walked past. i didn't even noticed. It was a TV actor. The significant other told me that the actor seemed to have lost quite a bit of weight. "Funny" thing was i was hearing a simultaneous translation from a lady next to me telling her husband exactly the same thing but in a different language.

This morning i just read in the papers that this actor has been diagnosed with muscular atrophy. I feel so sorry. Suddenly the weight loss observation wasn't funny at all. It's like a slow death sentence isn't it? But i'm reminded of a man who died from this disease and how he was strong throughout when his muscles wasted away slowly. I can recall his face perfectly. He was featured in the media i think at least 10 to 15 years back. But his name escapes me. He and family were getting ready to migrate to USA when he was diagnosed. When all the use of his body neck down was gone, this former engineer bit the paint brush and painted or typed on the keyboard. I think he even wrote a book. He and his family spoke frankly about the frustrations and pain the disease had brought but i will never forget how they spoke about their unshakable faith in God.

I read that the actor is a Christian. I hope that his faith will see him through.

Business As Usual

Ethan to me at the kitchen sink where i was washing:

"Here's papa's bowl (fruit bowl), delivered by me the errand boy as usual."

LoL

Tokyo Episodes

Click on the links. Don't need to scroll all the way to read the latest entry. I can't have it the other way round (as it doesn't make sense to read the earlier episodes first. Don't understand? I give up. Don't know how to explain. LoL) If you don't see 10 episodes, that means i haven't blogged about it yet lah.

Episode One: Shinjuku
Episode Two: Tokyo Disneyland
Episode Three: Asakusa
Episode Four: Yokohama
Episode Five: Ikebukuro
Episode Six: Nagatoro
Episode Seven: Harajuku
Episode Eight: Ueno
Episode Nine: Tama Tech
Episode Ten: Akihabara

Tokyo: Episode One Shinjuku 新宿

Departing for a nearly midnight flight to Tokyo on 1 Dec. With that, my camera clicking days began, lol. Or so i thought. It was so cold on some days that the camera and my hands stayed snugly in my jacket pocket ;-)

We took a double-decker plane. Didn't have the honour to be piloted by my fren leh. So "not coincidental" quote unquote ;-)

The mandatory family pic, lol

This pic is to show you everything is bigger in the A380 - seat, screen, storage compartment, errr, not so sure about the Singapore Girl lah

Touch-down at Narita Airport in the morning. No sun. Only rain. What a gloomy pic, lol

10.3 degrees celcius. It was a wet and cold day, so you can see your breath.

While waiting for the airport limo bus to take us to the hotel. It's not exactly a well-taken pic lah, but i took it anyway to show the significant other that i'm not the only one who is seow enough to take pic of the digital sign board behind, lol

Checking in at Hilton Hotel in Shinjuku (新宿). Thank goodness it wasn't raining in Tokyo but cloudy and cold.

We could only check into our room at 2pm so we contacted Chin Boo, make arrangements to meet and then walked around the area. Nothing special here, buildings loh. The one in the middle wasn't there 10 years ago when the significant other visited Tokyo. It's called the Monolith (i think) and i think it's damn ugly.

First stop is Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office - a 48 storey complex, about 5 minutes from the hotel. Sorry no pic. Just imagine 2 tall buildings left and right and a shorter building in the middle. My guide book says that it's designed by one of Japan's best known architects, Kenzo Tange. Errr, i think i'm design-challenged loh, didn't even take one pic of it, lol. Here you see Ethan taking some travel brochures at the Tokyo Tourist Information Centre (1st floor). The must have maps are all found here.

Then we went up to the 45th storey to the one of the 2 observatories in this building complex. Free one. Others in the city must pay to see errrr buildings and more buildings.

According to the info panel, the place marked 10 is Mt Fuji.

This is all we saw when we looked out, lol. Too cloudy lah. Just imagine a snow-capped mountain somewhere there...

The significant other actually slept while we were up there on the 45th storey. I took a pic lah but he will kill me if i put it here, hahahaha. But he is not the only one tired loh. So we decided to walk around in the cold a bit to wake us up.

We have a similar LOVE in Singapore right? I recall it's blue and somewhere near Plaza Singapura. My memory fails me...lol

Chin Boo took us to dinner near Shinjuku Station in the evening. (Mrs K will know that i don't usually identify my frens by name in my blog. But CB, Boo or Mr Tan don't seem right leh, lol) Anyway, we tried Okonomiyaki (お好み焼) or Japanese Pizza. (Here is the recipe i googled) Chin Boo ordered 4 kinds, you see 2 here - seafood and pork.

Step One - Stir. The significant other said it was tiring. The boys said the same thing. I wouldn't know. I didn't try. I was taking pic, wahahahaha.

Step 2 - Chin Boo (ya, those were his arms. I will load pics of him and family on other episodes, akan datang) poured the "mixed-up" dough onto the hot plate on the table.

Step 3 - When the pizzas were nearly cooked, you put sauce, then seaweed, then bonito flakes on them. In between, u need to flip the pizzas lah. Which i tried but didn't do it with style..which led to Chin Boo concluding that i don't cook, lol.

Step 4 - When it's done, you can add mayo to it before digging in. Yummy!

That's all folks for Episode One. We were soooooo tired at the end of the day and we planned to go Disneyland the next day because the weather would be good.
And blogging about the first day makes me tired too, hahahahaha. Stay tuned for Episode Two!

Tokyo: Episode Two Tokyo Disneyland

To get to Tokyo Disneyland, wherever you are, head towards Tokyo Station (東京駅). There, you look for the Keiyo Line (京葉線) and hop onto the train. You won't miss the Disneyland stop lah. Tokyo Station is VERY huge. After we alighted from the train coming from Shinjuku, we had to walk nearly 1 km!!! before we reached the Keiyo Line platform.

In front of Cinderella's Castle.

Another pic with the castle. I must say that I didn't take many pics (surprise surprise) though it was a beautiful sunny day. Most of the time, we were queuing up for rides, lol. Last year at Universal Studios in Osaka, Ewan didn't meet the height requirement for some rides. This year, can. So we didn't waste time on shows (we don't understand anyway) and attacked ALL the roller-coaster rides ;-) I must say I enjoyed the rides very much as a family. Don't need for the adults to take turns to go on the ride or stay with the kid(s), which was very much our experience in the past.

Lunch time. What is Disneyland without Mickey Mouse ;-) We didn't catch Mickey Mouse or any of the other characters walking around and posing for pictures. Not that we miss them lah. Wait, i think we saw Peter Pan but he didn't catch my fancy, hahahaha

Hercules wannabe

Have have, we saw Mickey Mouse. That was the end of the parade. Ya, we saw only the END of the parade. And that was enroute to another ride, lol

Long queue for these racing cars. Had we known that Hiromi (Chin Boo's wife) would be introducing us to something far more exciting at another theme park, we wouldn't be in the line ;-)

Ewan having fun driving. I was beside him. Contributing my foot.

Cos his was not long enough to reach the accelerator, lol.

The significant other would not pass up any opportunity to shoot. Even when it costs Y200 for 10 bullets. Here you see him proudly holding his prize,a badge. His score - 10/10. The boys' scores were similar to each other's - zero, wahahahaha

We watched the night parade while eating our dinner. Very nice but it was getting cold in the night. The kids were not too enthu, the significant other dozed off after dinner. Me? taking pics loh. Here are some of my favourite characters. No, no princess or prince charming, lol. (Although their gowns were beautifully lit up.) Presenting the Chesire Cat...

Monsters Inc

Aliens from Toy Story. ("You saved our lives. We thank you eternally." Remember that from Toy Story? Coincidentally, we caught Toy Story 1 & 2 at the hotel some nights later)

One last shot before we called it a day.

A night of surprises. We met papa's colleague and his wife and 2 kids when we were heading out. Their boy is one year younger than Ewan and they became fast friends during the train ride back to the hotel (ya, same hotel). Then at Tokyo Station, the significant other met his friend and wife on the escalator. He has not seen his secondary school friend for YEARS!! They managed a brief chat before parting for different railway lines.

When we were back at our room (it was about 11pm!), we had another surprise. The message lamp on the phone was flashing. The concierge delivered a bag of goodies from Chin Boo to us, so sweet of him. Here you see Ewan eating the strawberries the next morning...

We were to eat many more strawberries throughout the trip. So red so sweet so delicious.

So that's Episode Two for you. I'm now reliving the same tiredness I felt after a whole day at Disneyland, lol. Nite ;-)
