Since June I have made a grocery budget and actually stuck with it.
It has been hard some months not to go over, but I just try and make it work with what we have in the cupboards until the next month.
I really actually like tracking how much I spend at the grocery store.
This way I know it’s not getting out of hand with impulse buys :)
Since Jared was gone to Vegas for a couple of weeks without me, life got pretty boring and lonely at night after Luke went to bed.
It wasn’t quite as hard to make it to bed at a decent hour since not a lot was going on.
Since we have all been in Vegas, Jared has been getting up super early (5am) to go to work so he can get home at a decent hour.
This has also made it easier to go to bed early.
Luke also gives me a 6:30am wake up call so I have motivation to get to bed early.
It’s a good and a bad thing.
I kind of like being a night owl.
I have the most energy at night and get a lot done, but being an early riser is nice too.
We will see which one wins out.
This past Labor day was also Payson Onion Days Celebration.
I was excited because I usually run into one of my oldest friends that moved away when she was in first grade.
Her and her family always come up for the Labor Day festivities.
She lived down the street from me growing up and we were inseparable until she moved.
Fortunately, we have been able to keep in contact here and there throughout the years.
Last time I ran into her was a couple years ago and she had just gone through a divorce.
I thought about her a lot and wanted to know how she was doing.
Last year I tried to find her, but with no luck.
This year I actually ran into her and it was so good to catch up with her again.
She is remarried now and has a little baby.
Hopefully, I will be able to keep in better contact with her.
This post is long overdue, but back in July I finally went on vacation with my whole family.
We didn’t go far, but it was still a lot of fun.
We went camping at my favorite childhood spot up Nephi Canyon.
We plan on making this an annual tradition.
It is one of my favorite memories as a child and I hope that my kids will have the same fond memories of this place.
I am officially certified.
I did this a couple of months ago, but never updated the blog about it until now.
Is it weird that I still don’t feel prepared when it comes to this?
It scares me to death to think I might have to use this training, but I am still glad I did it.
I can’t take any credit for this one, but I am going to anyway.
We (Jared) planted a vegetable garden.
I can’t wait until we have fresh fruit and vegetables in our backyard!
This past weekend I met up with my friend, Jen, who lives in San Diego for a fun vacation.
Read about it here.
This past General Conference on Sunday, Jared and I got up and make the most delicious breakfast.
We decided right away it will be a tradition in our family to always make it for General Conference.
We made Breakfast Burritos and Orange Julius.
I got the yummiest recipe from here.
Luke was also in heaven which made us just confirm it even more that it is something we will always do.
I hope the traditions we start will be something that my children always remember and want to carry on with their own families.
I finished my book a couple of weeks ago.
It really helped while I was reading the Isaiah chapters in the Book of Mormon.
However, just last night Jared and I were reading in 2 Nephi and it was where Jacob is quoting Isaiah and I didn’t have a clue what he was talking about.
I think I made need to reference the book every time I read Isaiah.
Although, it was a great book to have as a companion while reading and I highly recommend it.
Luke has picked up quite a few more signs lately.
It really is a great way to communicate with him.
My mom even loves it and helps him learn new signs.
Now that he is talking more it is getting easier to understand him, but sign language has been wonderful to be able to communicate.
Here are the signs he knows:
Eat
Drink
More
Bear
Hat
Hair
Smart
Cookie
Help
Thank you
Please
Baby
Apple
Banana
Cold
Hot
Wash Hands
Cereal
Tired
All Done
I have been doing this quite frequently lately.
I use to make a fruit smoothie all the time back in the day for a snack and I got out of the habit, but now I am back!
I like them for breakfast, but I really like them at night when I am craving a snack.
I use:
Frozen or fresh fruit
V8 Fusion juice
Ice
Yogurt
Whey Protein Powder
It’s quite filling and really yummy too!!
I had to change this goal.
It just wasn’t working after mealtime.
I thought it would be perfect, but it just wasn’t.
So we went back to reading right before bed and we have been pretty consistent at it even though we can be tired some most nights.
It just works best for us and bedtime is the time it has officially become a habit.
I feel like I am finally at peace with my homemade pizza crust.
It definitely cooks a lot better in my new oven.
I have the crust to the perfect thickness.
The last couple of times I have made it I chose Margherita style using fresh tomatoes and spinach from my bountiful basket.
I think it is pretty heavenly.
I did it!
I hated every minute of it.
I questioned why I made this goal in the first place.
3 days would have been hard for me, but a week.
A week!
Now that was hard.
I am going to attempt this.
I will need a lot of will power.
I have access to the Internet on my phone and it is so tempting.
I will be traveling 5 out of the 7 days.
The airport can get rather boring so I will have to be strong.
Will…not…press…browser….on…my….phone.
See I can do it.
We are coming along!
Luke now signs the following: (of course it is only at his discretion, but he can sign them if he so chooses)
More (and he says it at the same time)
Eat
Drink
Please
Thank you
Hat
Bear
Baby
Cookie
A couple of months ago I saw these cute dogtag necklaces that you could personalize.
I decided to make one for me to wear with Luke’s picture on it.
It turned out so cute that I made each one of my sisters one for Christmas.
I am late in posting this, but about a month ago I finished reading the New Testament.
It was great to read this again since it had been quite awhile.
The best part is we are studying the New Testament this year in Sunday School so it will be a great way to go over what I just read.
I have already started studying Isaiah. I am using a book by John Bytheway to help me study and it is really helping.
It’s still confusing, but I have learned a lot already.
