My Little Country Day Boy!

I just loved this picture!

Sheer Exhaustion!

The end of the day - the face explains it all!

The New TV

Tonight we finally got our new TV. The old TV had 3 colors - red, green and blue (not sure if you can tell from the picture). I have not seen the real colors of anything on TV in weeks. Thank God!

Argus

Let me introduce Gavin II's best friend in the WORLD, Argus. He caught it at the Argus parade during Mardi Gras.

He does everything with Argus - eats, sleeps, rides in the car - everything. Last night, Gavin had class at UNO and des not get home until almost 10pm. He had left Argus in Gavin's truck so he had to go to sleep without him. He had an emotional breakdown. It definitely was not crocodile tears, either - trust me, I know the difference!

Fun Night

So, Parent's night was great! I got to meet a lot of the other parents. I met Gavin's 2 best friends', Hendrix and Carter, parents. We got to see what arts and crafts they are doing. They had little paper plates that they made into faces with googly eyes, pipe cleaners, etc. I found Gavin's and I almost cried. He's such a big boy :) It makes me so happy that he loves Country Day so much. There were pictures all over the room of the class paired in twos holdinfg hands walking somewhere on campus. SO CUTE! Gavin was grinning so big in the picture! I also took home a picture that he drew of "mommy and daddy" with markers. There is actually a face. I was really impressed! I told him that I loved it and he was so proud!!

Today, we had to find a toy to bring for Show and Tell. We brought Iggy the Iguana (pictured above - the picture was from January - he look so different!!). It's a ceramic Iguana that he painted himself at Morgan's birthday party last year. The pottery place fired it so it's nice and shiny and the paint is preserved. He was so excited to show it to his friends and teachers. Such fun stuff. It's really fun to be involved with all of his cute little activities. Country Day has definitely proven to be a great match for him!

I will have some pictures later tonight!

My First Parent's Night

In an hour, I will attend my first Parent's night. Is that weird? I feel like I will look like Gavin's big sister more than his mom? I have seen some of the other parents and they look like adults. I just feel like I don't really look like a mommy.

Gavin has class tonight at UNO (he's getting his MBA -- in case you didn't know) so he cannot go with me. To make me look even younger, I am bringing my mom. I didn't want to go alone. Nana already knows all about Country Day so I figured this would be a good chance for my mom to really get to know the people at the school.

Anyway, I am off to fight traffic in Metairie! I will post about my experience later!!!

A Surprise Visitor

No, you can be assured that Juju's snowball was non-alcoholic - although it doesn't appear that way in the picture from her expression!

Jenn and Jack stopped to see Juju and Pappy on their way back from Labadieville. We were lucky enough to see them for a quick Casey's Snowball trip! Jack ate about half of Juju's Nectar Cream snowball. Gavin II got his usual strawberry. He deserved it, too. He has been wearing underwear all day and has gone pee pee all by himself 5 times today!!! YAY!!! I think we have turned a corner - thank God!!

A Preview Into His Teenage Years

I can see it now....the phone years have started already!

Judy and Gene's 30th Anniversary Party

Another cake lady cake!

Cici and Kirk

Gavin keeping busy playing with his new train!

Isn't she adorable!!!

After the baptism, we headed over to St. Francis Xavier in Old Metairie for Chrishelle and Mallory's mom and dad's 30th anniversary party. It was really nice and they did a great job putting it on and hosting. There was a great turn-out and everyone had a great time! Gavin got lots of presents from Cici, Morgan, Mrs. Judy, Mr. Gene and Mallory. He had great time playing with his presents at the party
!

The Poor Fairmont

These are some pictures of the still-closed Fairmont across the street from the church downtown. It is one of our favorites and it's such a beautiful hotel. Hopefully they will stay on track to re-open in December!

Spencer's Baptism

Natalie, Spencer, Darren (her cutie brother), Ms. Virginia (their mom), and Darren's little girl Savannah who is 8 months old.

After the Katrina Krewe, we ran home to shower (because we were FUNKY) and then headed to The Jesuit Church for Spencer's baptism (it was actually a baptism for 3 babies). Spencer is Natalie and Richard's son. He is such a cutie!!! He's 6 months old and just happy as he can be! The church and baptism were beautiful despite the nasty weather yesterday!

Katrina Krewe

The New Orleans chapter of the Southern Miss Alumni Association! :)

This is what most of the houses look like. We were near Jefferson Davis Parkway in N.O.

Saturday morning, Gavin and I went to the heart of N.O. to do "Katrina Krewe". you basically clean up the debris from Katrina trying to beautify New Orleans again. It was hot and the debris was gross but it was good to help. We did it with thw So. Miss N.O. Alumni Association.

Asthma Walk

I know that lots of you received my e-mail asking for your support for the Lung Association's Asthma Walk. I certainly appreciate the donations that have already been made :)

I am a team captain for the Ochsner team (OchAir) and we are trying to raise funds for asthma research and cure. I have set up a web site so that you can make a secure online donation. You can also mail it to me if you would rather do it that way. It's for a great cause. I personally have asthma and so did Scott when he was a child. I know a lot of you have or know people who have asthma - it's a horrible condition to live with - I am thankful that mine is mild!

The Asthma Walk is the morning of Saturday, October 28th in Audubon Park. You can go to www.asthmawalk.org for more information. If you want to register to walk, let me know. There is no charge to walk - they just ask that you get donations!! It's a fun day!
Thanks everyone!!!

Juicy

Just thought I would post this being that we listen to this song 100 times per day. Gavin II LOVES two Better than Ezra songs - "Juicy" and "A Southern Thing". He asks us to turn them "louder and louder" in the truck and he jams out!! He knows 90% of the words to both songs - which may not be a good thing - some of the lyrics are not kid-friendly. Anyway, the boy has great taste in music, I have to give him that - Gavin and I love BTE too!

I'm Gonna Eat Some Worms!

When we got home tonight, Gavin II spotted a worm in the driveway and said "Daddy, look - a worm!" So, daddy responded with "well, eat it!" Gavin II laughs and says "No, Daddy, I can't eat worms - I'm allergic!" Too funny!!

Fudge Gets a Day at The Spa -- Petco!

Fudge had his yearly summer shave (although a little late!), bath and tooth care. He looks cute and smells good. I know the picture is not good but he has a little ADHD problem that makes picture-taking a little difficult.

By the way, has anyone heard anything about Cappy lately??

Future Allergist!

Gavin II loves to practice with his epipen trainer (no needle - no medicine). It's good - I am glad that he plays with it because, at 3 years old, he knows how to use it. I am not saying that he could actually do it to himself but he knows the 3 steps involved in administering the shot. He may have to tell an adult one day - adults get kinda flustered with it! He has decided that he wants to be an allergy doctor when he grows up. He also wants to be a baby doctor. We have compromised and said that he will be a pediatric allergist.Yeah, I'm good with that - he can employ and support his nurse mom one day!

Modeling Clay Fun

Crayola Model Magic is the best!!!
You know it's true displayed best by the deer-caught-in-the-headlights eyes!

Chee Weez - again

Me, Gavin, Dave and Megan went over to Southport Hall last night to see Chee Weez. They are a GREAT cover band - we love them. They had Nozmo Kings open for them and they were great, too. We did pretty well - we left at around 12:30am - that's 4 hours past my bedtime. Hey, I was impressed...

Yay - A New Computer!!!

We - of all people - had not bought a computer in forever. Gavin helps everyone build these fabulous, fast computers and we have one that takes 10 years to pull up a web page. So, my mom and dad bought a new one and so did we. It's a lap top and we are using it as our home computer. It's really fast!! It has the best hi def I have ever seen!!!

A Pancake Kind of Morning!

We all had pancakes for breakfast this morning...yummy! Gavin II does not ever want syrup - he eats his with powdered sugar and LOVES them!

McAlister's - Open for Business

The Airline Drive McAlister's near Causeway is finally re-opened. It looks great! They remodeled it completely. Gavin II was VERY happy that it's open again - now we have both locations to frequent.

Edisen House (Pre-Bee Sting!)

Here are some snaps of his first morning at Country Day. He had a "fantastic day" according to his teacher. He eventually went back outside after a long nap (thanks to Mr. Benadryl). Nana brought him home and, when she went to get him, he told her that he did not want to leave. IN fact, Mrs. Carol said that "the kid who got a bee sting at Edisen house" was the talk in the hallways today. As it turns out, there has apparently never been a bee sting there - another first!!

The Frightening Phone Call

So, when the phone rings at work and I see Country Day's number, I freak. It is his teacher. I should set this up...

This morning when we got to C.D. - we arrived early and walked around a bit. I took a mental note that there were several areas that had a lot of bees. Then, when I talked with the teacher this AM, I said, he's never been stung by a bee so I don't think he is allergic to them but I don't know. Teacher says "Well, I hope we don't find out". I agree. So, we leave and Gavin II is happy - the world is good.

At 9:30am, I get the phone call from Ms. Whitney - "Sherry, you are not going to believe this...." I freak out at this point...."Gavin just got stung by a bee". Unbelievable! If you don't know, Gavin (husband) is allergic to bees and Gavin's grandfather passed away as a result of a bad bee sting. We are a little hypersensitive about bee stings.

Anyway, he's fine. He supposedly has a puffy hand and some redness. However, Nana (grandmother - works at Country Day) rushed down to evaluate him, Daddy made his way over there to evaluate this morning and he has been treated by the nurse already. He is WELL taken care of at C.D. I am VERY impressed with the level of care and supervision that he received today. I have not actually seen the war injury but I am sure that I will hear all about it later tonight!

Country Day...Here He Comes..Ready or Not!!

Tomorrow is Gavin II's first day at Country Day. We are hoping for a very smooth morning. With having to drive to old metairie every morning, we have to start leaving our house for 6:45am. Plus, traffic has been bad enough with most schools starting this past Monday. Well, tomorrow, the catholic schools start school - traffic is going to be horrible!!! Wish us luck for a good day tomorrow!

Restless Sleeper

Gavin II is honestly still asleep in this picture. This is how I walked in his room and found him this morning. Do you think he's a restless sleeper? Any guess why Gavin lets Gavin II sleep with me on vacation if we have 2 double beds?!

Our Adventure at Wal-Mart

Gavin II was WIRED tonight so daddy tells him that they were going to play the "statue" game where you have to stand very still and be quiet. He went along with it - for about 2 minutes and then emphatically told daddy that he did not want to play that game again. Instead, daddy took part in playing Gavin II's VERY made up "River Game". Not sure what the basis was for the game - we just do what we need to do.

We ventured to Wal-Mart tonight. Interesting trip! We first went to Electronics where - of all the movies - Gavin II picks up "The Dukes of Hazzard". But, look at cover of the ONE he picked up of 3 that they had - definitely his father's son!

An Abita Kind Of Night

Last night, Gavin and I had a "date night". We had dinner at Superior Grill on St. Charles and then went to the Contemporary Arts Center for the Abita 20th Anniversary party. It was a concert with Better Than Ezra with two other bands. We got there around 9pm and by 10pm, we left because I apparently cannot handle 3 beers anymore - I was SO TIRED! We couldn't see the stage anyway - it was around the corner from where we were and there was only a screen to watch. Very cool party, though - free Abita all night.

Disneyworld Here We Come!

Tonight, we booked our vacation for over Thanksgiving week. We are very excited!!! We are going to leave the Tuesday before Turkey Day and get back the Sunday after. We have our Park Hopper tickets and hotel booked. Yay!! We love Disneyworld. Gavin II cannot wait - we were driving home yesterday when we told him that we were going back - he thought we were driving there at that moment! I have to say, Disneyworld and saying "We're gonna call Mickey and tell him _____" has been a somewhat decent negotiating tool!

Tired Boy!

We left the room for 5 minutes and this what we found when we came back in.

Say Cheese!

Gavin taking a picture of me taking a picture of him. We take a lot of pictures!!

The Clearview Bridal Show

This afternoon was my dad's bridal show. He already does 2 per year at the Pontchartrain Center but he has expanded to do 2 more per year at the Clearview Mall. There were LOTS of brides there. Little brother Shaun worked the front check-in table well! Gavin II was doing everything in his power to get Shaun's attention while he was giving information to a bride. It was a great show. Congrats, Pappy!
