My Lock Out Experience

This morning I was getting the kids ready for school when Lincoln started throwing a tantrum.  So I picked him up and went to put him into the car in the garage.  The door closed behind me and then I realized my minivan was locked.  So I went to open the door to go back into the house to get my keys and the door was locked.  This door has been sporadically locking but I always had the keys with me or my kids were still inside.
So all 3 of my kids and I were in the garage and I had no keys and no cellphone. So I went over to my neighbor's house and she let me use her cellphone to call a locksmith. I was able to hang out with her and my kids played with her kids for about 40 minutes.  Then the locksmith came and 5 minutes later we were back into our townhome.  Oh....yes it cost me $150!
Now I tried to break into my house multiple times before going over to my neighbor's house and yet I could not break in.  I realized I could not be a master criminal.  I am not even smart enough to break into a townhome that really is not a "high risk" place.  Meaning Jake and I don't have a of lots of jewels or expensive things around.  We do have plenty of lalaloopsy dolls and my little ponies.  Oh yes.....we also have video games.  Actually I would be willing to donate all the video games to the less fortunate robbers.
That was our fun adventure this morning.  My kids went to school almost an hour and 1/2 late.  I rewarded myself with a refreshing beverage from In & Out.  I know....I spent $2.00 dollars on a soda because I needed a good refreshing beverage!

Lincoln has amazing taste

Lincoln could have had any choice of soda when it came to quenching his thirst but he chose Dr.Pepper.  That shows me that he is bright and 100% Me!  Go Team Me!

Luke's 7th Birthday

Today was Luke's 7th Birthday and he wanted to go to Sea World with his cousins.  Luke woke me up at 6:45am because he was so excited that he turned 7 today.  Staci and her family came over and we all drove to Sea World.
We had a fun day and Sea World even had a Snow area where the kids could play in the snow and go sledding.  The problem is that my kids were wearing flip flops and I was not anticipating have them play with snow.  My kids loved the snow until their hands were frozen and their pants were wet.  Then I remembered why I am not a fan of snow.  Lincoln wanted to play in the snow so bad but didn't understand why it was so cold.  He kept thinking it was like sand but was freezing sand.

For birthdays at Sea World they give out free coupons to feed an animal. Luke decided to feed the sea lions and we got 8 containers of fish and my kids went crazy to feed the sea lions.  Sadly, Lincoln was so scared by these LOUD sea lions. I had to go back to the sitting area while Aunt Staci helped pass out the fish.  My kids loved having their hands stink like fish.

We randomly got selected by a nice employee at Sea World to take a personal tour and pet sharks in the back room.  Wow...that sounds suspicious but it was actually legit.  This nice lady picked Staci and Me and our 6 kids because she felt inspired to pick us.....plus, she is Mormon!  We got to go behind the scenes and pet small sharks and Who fish.....who fish are creepy and like to suck dead skin cells off of you.  It was so gross to me but my fingers felt so smooth and youthful.  Here is a picture of Peyton with her hand in one of the shark tanks.

Lincoln was all ready to go on the Manta roller coaster but the employees said he wasn't tall enough.  As you can see Lincoln fits in the seat and was even patiently eating fruit snacks.  What a good baby.  Also if you notice that Lincoln is wearing shoes.....this is a huge step for him.  Lincoln normally only likes crocs shoes but they got left somewhere accidently.  So for the last few days he has refused to wear shoes.  Obviously people in society can't go around not wearing shoes so we had to intervene and make him wear shoes.  Mother of the Year goes to me for making my son wear shoes like a normal kid. *high fives self*

We all then went to Red Robin for Luke's birthday dinner!

Veterans Day Holiday

Well Jake didn't have today off so it was just me and the kids today.  I had my niece and nephew spend the night last night since my sister Staci went to AZ with my Mom to take my sister Kristi home.  We decided to go to the ward play group in the morning.  Luke really wanted to invite his friend Charlotte so we went and picked her up.  We played at the park for a couple of hours and then we went and got delicious happy meals at McDonalds.  Then I dropped off Morgan and Megan at Staci's house and we came back and played Minecraft and My Little Pony games till I had to take Charlotte home.  It was a really fun day.

It was a good day and I had time to clean the bathrooms.  The bad news is that Jack in the Box ran out of Dr.Pepper in the afternoon so I had to do without the delicious beverage this afternoon and drank more water.

Ladies Night

On Friday night a group of ladies from my new ward had a girls night out.  It was just a last minute thing and I got invited.  (Yes, I am super cool or they had pity on me knowing I normally spend Friday night at home)  The party got started at 6:30pm at Chilis with a small group and the we moved on to the main event with a larger group and went to Extraordinary Desserts in Downtown.  We were going crazy and I might even had one to many Dr.Peppers.  Plus the crazy part.....we stayed out past 11pm.  I know....CRAZY!!!!

Now the bad news.  When I came home Jake and I hung out for awhile and then went to bed at 1am.  My kids slept till 7am and I was so tired.  Jake was also tired so we switched off sleeping in the morning.  We are too old to stay up that late.  My body at 32 is telling me to "stop pretending I'm still in college and don't have kids".

It was worth it though.  Fun times at Ladies Night!!!!!

Sorry McDonalds

I'm not sure if you heard but McDonalds is taking a huge due to the economy.  I know the experts haven't realized that I am the reason McDonalds is not doing so well.  So I decided to write a letter to McDonalds to express my concerns.

Dear McDonalds,

About 5 months ago I stopped going to my local McDonalds for your refreshing Dr.Pepper beverages because your Dr.Pepper is very subpar.  It seems like you have stopped trying to keep the Dr.Pepper blend delicious.  Due to your lack of Dr.Pepper syrup ration I started going to the local Circle K for my soda needs.  The employees at your McDonalds were friendly but the employees at Circle K learned my name and my kids names.  Since I stopped going to my local McDonalds I stopped buying your food.  Since I stopped buying your food and drinks I now realize that I am the reason why McDonalds is failing.

I recently moved and I can commit to going to my new local McDonalds 2 or 3 times a day for a refreshing beverage IF you make your Dr.Pepper delicious again.

Thank you,
Laura

Horrible dentist visit

I went to the dentist on Tuesday for a follow up core build up and for a temporary crown.  I had a horrible experience when the dentist assistant discovered that she could torture me with the sucker tool.  She decided to suck out everything out of my mouth then she decided to start going down my throat till I gagged.  Finally I put up my hand when she tried to suck up something right after she already made me gag 2 times in a row.
I know the dentist assistant is not a horrible person and she is quite lovely when she doesn't have a sucker tool in my mouth.  I understand she is just doing her job, and I'm sure I produce quite a lot of saliva, but why is she going crazy with it?  Plus what is the deal with cold water being squirted in your mouth.  Why can't it be warm water?  Did the cold water have to be so cold that it shocks you only to be sucked up by the sucking tool so fast.

That was my experience at the dentist.

A bad Mormon?

When Jake and I were first married we both volunteered in the San Diego Temple as ordinance workers.  We worked for almost 4 years and then I had Luke and had to stop.  Since then Jake has been an ordinance worker on and off and worked for almost 2 years during law school.  (We needed blessings)  So when I lived with my Mom I decided to start being as receptionist at the temple with my friend Alyssa.  It was a lot of fun and once a month I got to see Alyssa and Jake in the temple.  Then we would hang out afterwards.  Once we moved Jake stopped working in the temple.  My mom offered to keep babysitting my kids till Jake gets home from work once a month.

When we moved I lost my motivation to work in the temple as a receptionist.  I discovered I would rather be at home with Jake then go work at the temple once a month as a receptionist.  Now Jake is in the young men's program so he will be gone every Wed night.  So when my Mom couldn't watch my kids this week for my scheduled time to work at the temple I decided to stop working.

So I just feel that I am a bad Mormon.   I am so impressed at the people that volunteer at the temple without their spouse. I also find working as a receptionist is so boring.  When I work at the temple I try to seek out people to talk to me because I can only read scriptures for so long.

So bad Mormon for stopping as a receptionist at the temple? Or am I a great Mormon because I at least go to the temple as a patron.

My root canal experience

On Friday I had to get a root canal and my sister Staci was nice enough to watch Lincoln while I was going through torture.  First, I rewarded myself to a refreshing beverage because I needed to relax.  I hate the dentist so a specialist dentist must be horrific.  When I first showed up to the office the office staff was nice and chatted with me.  That was their first trick,  They wanted me to feel comfortable.  Next, they told me my copay was only $147.  This was great because I was expecting it to be a lot more.  So then I let my guard down and chatted with them.  I even reached for a magazine to sit back and relax.  That is when the horror started.  I sat down in the recycling chair and took a x ray and then the dentist came to talk to me.  He was nice and joked with me. A few minutes later he pulled out a few huge needles and started stabbing my mouth and gums. I lost count of all the stabbing.

At this point my mouth was numb and I put my Pandora music on and closed my eyes.  The time went by fast and the root canal was over.  I was able to drive home and took over my parental responsibilities from my Sister Staci.  An hour later I took a nap with Lincoln and woke up to my mouth not being as numb.

My root canal wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  There are worse things such as:

1) Running out of Dr.Pepper on SUNDAY
2) Finding a Café Rio and then realized it has been closed for the day.
3) Going to the gym and then lose realizing your cellphone is dead so you can't listen to music
4) Discovering your socks don't match
5) Discovering you are wearing 2 different sandals.

Here are just a few things I thought of.

Homework.....A form of torture?

Luke is in 2nd grade at a great elementary school and he has about 30 to 45 minutes of homework a night and then 20 minutes of reading.  I assume that this is about the same amount of homework for all 2nd graders.  (Well, except for places in Russia because well....its Russia)

Luke feels that homework is a form of torture that I have given him to make sure he does not have any fun in this life.  Luke will be happy and act like a normal child and then I say "Okay, time to do homework" and he turns into this whiny kid that I want to put to bed at 5pm.

Luke is really good at Math but still whines and complains till he is done.  To read his reading comprehension homework is the ultimate torture and will whine till  I point at each word and make him read it.  Once again tonight Luke freaked out about homework.

One the other hand when I was in elementary school I loved homework.  I was a super genius in elementary school.  Teachers used to ask me for the answers and to double check that they were correct.  Yes, I was that good.  In fact, my 1st grade teacher tried to move me up to 5th grade but I decided that wasn't the best idea socially.  I also didn't want to make all the other kids feel bad.*
