Pumpkin time!

We carved some pumpkins last night with a high school buddy of Josh's and the Poulsens. We had tons of fun! Happy halloween to you all! Josh and I did the spider, Tasha and Travis did the Ghost and Abe and Kayla did the pumpkin, spider and cat.

Sea World & Wild Animal Park

The family picture is at Sea World, and we are with Melanie and Kara at the Wild Animal Park in San Diego.

More Disneyland photos

Disneyland

We just got back last week from California for a Disneyland Trip. We met up with some friends in Anaheim and spent 3 days in Disneyland, and 1 day in Universal Studios. Then we drove down to San Diego and spent one day at Sea World with Melanie and Alan. The next day Alan and Blake ran a 10k Mud Run at Camp Pendleton and Donalee and the kids went with Melanie and Kara to the Wild Animal Park. We got home at midnight on Saturday night and the kids had their primary program bright and early the next morning. Sunday afternoon we had a nice nap. :) Erin and Rachel stayed with Grandma & Grandpa Hastings and family so Blake & Donalee could have a vacation too.

Scooter II (Rachel)

Rachel is almost 16 months old and has mastered the art of scooting. (Kyle is Scooter I, but Rachel has developed more finesse and technique). We have enjoyed not having Rachel walking. It keeps our baby, a baby. But her days of scooting are numbered, she has attempted a few steps on her own without the couch or mom nearby. So she will go from scooting to walking without ever crawling an inch.

that is the funniest thing ever! i love it!

She is a very good "scooter". I got to see her do it when she was here for Jordelle's wedding. Thanks for the video. Now it is recorded forever.

Lauren's Baptism

Lauren was baptized on Saturday, October 13th. We had a very nice baptismal service. Friday night we had family and friends over to our house for a Chinese takeout dinner. We unfortunately didn't have any Birds who could make it Friday night. On Saturday after the baptismal service we were supposed to run to a baby shower, but it got canceled so we had the afternoon off and were able to go out to lunch at Sizzler with Jaime & Merrill, Lindsay, Chris, and Charlie Bird. We had a nice day.

So good to see so many Birds there. I am so sad I couldn't be one of them. Thanks Jamie for giving my talk.

Lauren's Confirmation Dress

This is Lauren's confirmation dress. I decided as each of our kids turn 8 to have a portrait done of them to hang in their room so they can remember that their baptism is a special day.

Some wedding pictures

I've finally been able to get some pictures from our wedding - they were taken by one of Josh's cousins, so there is a lot of his family in them. I don't know if you heard, but dad got a black eye the day before our wedding and my brother-in-law, Allen, dove into the pool the night before and got a very big nose and goose egg on his forehead. Needless to say, we have some pretty awesome pictures. love ya!

Thanks for posting the pictures. Your Dad will always be able to remember his back eye. Hope you will get your wedding pictures soon.

San Diego Wildfires

You are probably all aware of the major fires we have been having in Southern California the past several days. As hard as it is to believe, the fires are actually worse than the devastating fires we had in October 2003.

We first noticed the large clouds of smoke Sunday afternoon. That night the Santa Ana winds blew very hard all through the night. It was some of the fiercest winds we have ever seen. Turning on the news Monday morning we discovered that our area was ordered to evacuate and that there were houses burning in Rancho Bernardo, less than 5 miles from our home. At it's closest, the fire came within about 3.5 miles.

We evacuated to our stake center, which was outside the evacuation area. We stayed there overnight, monitoring the situation on the local news channels. Yesterday afternoon we returned to our home, although we are still in an evacuation area. We are actually barely inside the area and, at this point, the fires are mostly at the extreme south and north ends of San Diego County.

At this point, over 500,000 people have had to evacuate their homes in the San Diego area. Unfortunately, well over 1,000 homes have been destroyed. For the most part everything including the evacuations and firefighting have gone very well. Certainly the fact that we just went through this 4 years ago helps a lot.

Although this is day 4 of the fires, they don't expect them to be fully contained for another week. At this point we are very confident that our home will not be affected (other than all kinds of ash and debris from the high winds).

I'm so glad those fires are all over and so sad for the people who lost so much. Hope the cleanup goes well today

Youngberg Update

Hey Family,

We just wanted to give you our job update. Toby was wanted in San Antonio, Denver and in Salt Lake (Midvale). We have decided to move to Salt Lake!!! We are moving on December 15 and then we will unpack for a few days and head down to San Diego with Chris for Christmas. We are excited to be close to family again. We are not sure where we are going to live yet. Toby's family suggested that we looking into housing since it's a buyers market. So we've been looking, but we will probably get an apartment near Chris. Here are a few pictures I just took of Makenzie. I was trying to get her to show her teeth. You can see them in the first picture, but it didn't come out very good, but it was the only one that showed her teeth. (she has 2 on the bottom)

water colors

Isaac wasn't too sure about his dad burying him in the sand. And he squalled when his brother came and dumped a bucket of sand on his head. Isaac and Miles have really enjoyed painting with water colors recently. Miles face shows you that sometimes they think their paintbrushes are swords. Also- Wesley is doing really well and is staying with my aunt tonight.

Conference

Happy Conference!!!! Look what blessings we received:

Blogger LaVerne Bird said on Sat Oct 06, 11:51:00 AM PDT:

I love the beauty of snow. I think it is appropriate to see new snow on the day we saw President Eyring sustained as the new counselor in the first Presidency. I love Presdent Eyring. And also to see Elder Quinton Cook as the new apostle. I thought conference was wonderful this morning.
Thanks for posting those new pictures
