Kelly Canyon

Here is a little movie of Mathew going over a jump at Kelly Canyon. Good thing we started him out wearing a helmet. Later in the day he took a few nasty tumbles. Do the terms "pretzel" and "scorpion" mean anything to you? On the last run, he was adjusting his goggles, slipped off the cat track and hugged a bush. Poor kid. At least some crazy teenagers came by while he was assessing the damages and did some 360 jumps off the same bank he went off of. I'm sure he had the best view!

And this is Micah going over the same little jump. He makes it look so easy. Truth be told, I went over the jump first so that I could take some pictures, but someone should have been taking a shot of me since I landed and rolled and crashed in an explosion of powder! I really need to work on landing...

Family Photo Christmas 2008

Here is our new family photo...this is the best one...you should have seen the others...perhaps we'll try again...soon.

Here's another fun one:

Christmas morning watching "The Polar Express" in 3-D.

The kids got a new engine in the old Polaris 440 aka "Bumblebee". We rode it around the yard for awhile and then took it out with the big dogs. Sad story...it exploded with a green geyser all over Mathew's snowpants. We left it on the side of the trail and towed it out at the end of the day.
I just don't know why Mathew doesn't buy himself a decent sled. He is already eight years old after all.

The snow was fanastic! Josh, Adam and Micah just took turns getting stuck and digging each other out. Mathew and I sat on top of the hill drinking not-so-hot chocolate.

For Sale: Trike and Trailer (wheels included)

So we were cleaning out the garage.
Josh sent a Suburban full of stuff to the neighbors and another pile to the trash. But Mathew, with his empty piggy bank, decided to make a buck off of his old stuff rather than just giving it away. He wrote up a sign and parked it in the yard like every other Idahoan with an extra vehicle pulling a crappy trailer.
It's still out there...if you're interested...
Jared earned a dollar for catching a mouse. Eeeeeww! And here is Nathan showing off some of Mom's new windows.

Mini Farm, Mini Farmers

Nathan and Mayflower--Is the boy in the goat cage, or is the goat in the boy cage? (Little boys make anything into a fort. The other day the whole neighborhood was hanging out in the chicken house, and "the girls" weren't too happy about it, I'm sure.) Jared and Mayflower--a couple of happy kids!

Osmosis

Jared...sleeping...homework...OSMOSIS the cure all! He was just too tired to get it done.
Nathan says, "Never sleep with your homework. Someone might take your homework."
His dad is thinking, hmmm, especially if someone else only needs a signed copy of the same homework...someone like a TWIN perhaps. (Leave it to Nathan to come up with that.)

Plymouth, 1987

I am thankful for fond memories...

When I was eleven years old, my sweet aunt and uncle invited me to join their family on a cross-country trip to visit many historical sites.

This is Plymouth Plantation in 1987. Oh, the 80's... And here I am in the village stocks--just where I belong some days--with my cousins, Shelley, Justin, and Brian. (James isn't in this photo.)

I thought Plymouth Rock was bigger than this...but I was wrong. Notice the shadow with the camera. That's me!

This is the Mayflower II. And there I am again taking pictures. Aunt Judy always thought it was funny to take pictures of people taking pictures.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you enjoyed this little peek at Thanksgiving past.

Snickers the snake

Snickers is the class pet in Nathan's classroom this year. But, two years ago Mathew was in the same class and got to help pick out his name. He was quite a bit smaller then--only about as big around as your finger. Mrs. Shiley brought him in to my class for a visit one day after school. Later we almost got to see him eat a thawed out mouse, but evidently it smelled funny and he wouldn't touch it.

Calvin, Hobbes, and Spaceman Spiff

We were Calvin and Hobbes comic pages this year for Halloween. I was Calvin's mom, the NAGGON. Josh was his dumbfounded dad, of course. Mathew was Calvin in a red and black stripey shirt. Nathan was Hobbes (He requested hand-knit ears and tail.) Jared was Calvin's imaginary self--Spaceman Spiff! (He made his own blaster out of a toilet paper roll and plenty of duct tape.)
This year the boys went trick-or-treating around our neighborhood by themselves. All in all, it turned out to be a pleasant Halloween.
Notice how both Hobbes and Lily are showing off their tails. Cute!

Mayflower has arrived!

We are all very excited to have our first goat baby born in our barn! The boys decided that Mayflower was a great name for her since its so close to Thanksgiving. They all want to get up extra early tomorrow morning to help with chores...I don't think that will last long.

My husband is a roofer...hey, no wise cracks!

Well, the cabin's loose roof required adjustment, so Josh and Adam were on site in a flash with all the necessary equipment--ropes, ladders, screwgun, Grandma's fresh peach pie, harnesses, old fat, more peach pie, yoga-on-the-roof skills, and way too many ground supervisors.

Reading with Grandpa

Since I've gone back to teaching, the kids have spent extra time with Grandpa next door after school. Today Jared was sick, but I forgot to call Grandpa to let him know that I was home. How nice to have Grandpa come over to spend his regular homework time with the boys. In this photo Jared is reading his version of "Socks for Supper".

Luckiest girl ever!

We have decided that there's nothing sweeter than the pitter patter of little feet...unless it's the pound, pound, pound of little hammers building mom a sunroom!

humdinger bee-stinger!

Jared vs bee...

guess who won?

Is that an elephant...in Idaho?

The Circus came to town this summer. None of us had ever been to one, so we decided to go see what it was all about. The elephants dazzled us! This rather large, lovely lady kindly took Jared, Nathan, Mathew, Bethany, and Amy for a jaunt around the ring. And her name...Cindy.

Water Fun

Jared is being funny while dad is building a goat gate for mom. We are filling up the swimming pool. It was cold. I went "waaaaahap" and it wasn't in deep water.
I was sitting in the dog's water bucket to get warmed up.
It was fun jumping off the diving board and when I jumped off the diving board I went under the water with my eyes opened. This is Mathew jumping off the diving board.

Backyard Boys with some Trouble

Uh-oh, there's a dent in the tent door. I wonder what it is.
Three harmless little boys came out. I think that sort of scared me.

We tried to let Lily in the tent, but she ran over and over and over and tried to knock the tent down. Then she broke one of the poles that held it up. So I went inside to get duct tape and fixed the broken pole as much as I could. Then instead of having Lily in the tent we decided to have Zelda in (Mathew's new cat).

Mom and Dad decided to have us buy a new tent for them. But it was only the pole that needed to be fixed. So we bought a pole replacement set instead.

More Yellowstone Fun

No, this isn't SNOW--its Mammoth Hot Springs on a rather rainy day! But Nathan and Jared look like they are on the edge of a glacier or something.
Mathew, Jared and Nathan got to ride a REAL elephant at the circus in Rexburg this summer. So they enjoyed posing in front of Elephant Back at Mammoth.
We decided to take a side loop drive on a dirt road in the park. Josh drove "Idaho style" with his elbow hanging out, so Nathan decided to do that too. Way too cute!
And here's the view from the driver's perspective. I think Josh liked his little imitator.

Island Park Flowers

We stopped in Island Park to have a picnic lunch on our way to Yellowstone this summer. The yellow flowers were thick and new. What a gorgeous drive that weekend!
Notice the golf shirts...its Sunday after all, and they have collars. The boys have been pulling that one alot this summer. Oh well, better for them to dress themselves now and be independent later. Nathan has his soccer jersey OVER his golf shirt. Two favorites? Not a problem--just wear them both!

Bottle Baby

Here we have Nathan and Jared bottle feeding Luke, the nigerian dwarf buckling. Too bad this isn't a movie--he wags his tail like crazy.
We have six little goats on our farm. Mae, Molly, Olive, and Brownie are the girls. Everett is a wether, and Luke is our buck. Full grown, their back comes up to my knee. It has been alot of fun. Right now Mae is the only one that I am milking. She started out a bit kicky in the milk stand, but is getting more patient with me as time goes by. The milk tastes great!

Golfing

Nathan is lining everything up getting ready to take a whack at it.
Jared on the back swing--he often pulls a Happy Gilmore hockey slam.
Mathew shows his brothers what it is all about.

The kids love golfing with Josh. We generally go through a few large buckets of balls at the driving range.
