Burn Baby Burn

When we first moved to Leander, our son Austin had a coach that BRAINWASHED them to "hook 'em horns" when he walked into a room...it was real scary!! :-) One day Jeremy had taken Austin to Academy and when they returned Austin was wearing a t.u. hat! I couldn't believe Jeremy bought MY son a t.u. hat. All he could say was "well, he really wanted one". Well, 2 years later I have finally convinced him the A&M is a better choice. When I was gone one night Jeremy and Austin had a little bonfire of their own...burn baby burn! The next night both boys had new Aggie hats to wear! Thanks Babe.

Respectful Kids

Raising respectful kids is a very difficult thing to do most of us. Some kids are just born with a calmer, more respectful demeanor, while others can be just plain rotten sometimes. Why is this? Well it all goes back to Adam and Eve. We do live in a world of sin and it shows in our sin nature. As sweet as little kids can be, they still have an old sin nature that needs to be trained to do right. My mom heard a speaker on a radio show one day talking about his book, "Respectful Kids" by Dr. Todd Cartmell. She found it at a store and gave it to me. Not because she thought my kids were that disrespectful, but she knows that all kids have to be trained to be respectful. I love my mom for all her insightful support along the road of parenting! Anyways, this book is GREAT! I have only read the first few chapters and I love it. It's not your normal parenting book that talks about all these different philosophies and things you should do. It actually lays out the plan on how to teach your children different methods of being respectful. So far it has talked about "fast listening" and "flexible thoughts". It shows you step by step how to work through these issues with your child, has sample conversations to have with your child, and shows how to role play the situations so you can walk them through the right way to respond. I would definitely add this book to your reading list. When I finished reading the chapter on "fast listening" I wanted to go wake my kids up and start the teaching process right then - but I decided they wouldn't respond very well at 10 o'clock at night!

So if you are noticing the ole' sin nature creeping in to your kids lives, this book is a great one at working through that and teaching them the right and respectful ways to respond. Good luck along the road of parenting!

Labor Day Fun

We took the boys to a bike track in Blockhouse Creek today and they were so excited. Jeremy was wishing he had brought his own bike...but settled for riding Austin's a few times.

We enjoyed hanging out for awhile, taking a break from watching the weather channel!

Jackson actually gave me a smile - usually he turns his head or gives me a big goofy smile :-)
