Carter's week from H-E-Double Toothpick

Poor little guy can't catch a break.

So you saw what happened Tuesday and Wednesday.

Thursday was the first day of school. I was a TAD nervous to say the least as I dropped off both of the kiddos. And for different reasons :)

I ran to do my errands for the morning and about puked when I saw the school number come up on my phone in Target. It was Laney's teacher - just calling to tell me what a good day she was having. Nice of her to do that, despite the almost heart attack.

Anyway, Carter actually had a good day. Apparently he pulled some little boy's hair RIGHT as I was walking in to pick him up. But, the teacher said he had a good day. I gave her SEVERAL chances to tell me otherwise, and she said she would if anything ever came up. As we're talking, I pick him up and notice this big, red, blotchy spot on his cheek. 'He must have gotten scratched' she said. Yeah, by said boy's TEETH! A HUGE bite mark on his cheek.

I know. Ironic, huh? The biter gets bitten. I will say, I wasn't upset from an injury standpoint. But I am going to be CHAPPED if he starts doing it again. Granted, I know he dished it out a lot, but I only remember one time (poor, little Camille) that was as bad as his face. These were taken that evening after the swelling went down. And yes, I know, I am being defensive. Don't worry, he got his share for doing it to others, but...

So now, he's sportin' two black eyes and a huge, red circle of teeth marks on his cheek.

Friday morning he woke up a bit warm. I gave him some Motrin, and he went back to bed for 45 minutes or so. Ate, played, happy-go-lucky.

Put him down for a nap at normal time. About 2 hours later, I could hear him moaning through the wall. I checked in on him and he looked like he was sunburned. His temp was 104.9.

Ouch.

We headed to the pedi's office for the 2nd time in 4 days. Another 2.5 hour bonding time, but this one was not as pleasant as the last. My little guy was sick, sick, sick.

Long story short, he's ok now. No fever since then.

I don't want to jinx myself, but SURELY this week .... no... I'm not even going to type it.

Ugh...

Really, I don't know what else to title this post. I'll get straight to the point.

Tuesday was supposed to be Carter's first day at his new school, but his nose/congestion was still a little suspect. Granted, I would have taken the runny nose any day over what he got that afternoon.

Let me zoom in on that for you...

Eeek, I gasped when I saw it. LITERALLY, it was this big in a matter of a few seconds. I still can't figure out how it happened. I was finishing up preparing dinner when he was carrying BB in a wooden salad bowl into the den - just on the other side of the couch! I didn't hear him hit anything. I just looked over when I heard him cry, and he was in the middle of the floor. Luckily, the lack of a gaping hole kept us from going to the ER, and we settled for a trip to the pedi. She wanted to check the eye, eye ball, and the cut itself. All was fine and dandy - considering - though the doctor seemed very intrigued by it. Carter actually got his first sucker while she poked and prodded. He was shrieking 'MOOOOOOOORE,' and I had flashbacks of our plane trip to Seattle.
He was over the incident WAY sooner than I was.

All in all, we actually had a good time during our 2 hour doctor trip! I got lots of Bop time while GranJan stayed with a sleeping Buggy. Long story short, she was in the area for a get-together that night and was able to help out until Joel got home. Thank you!

I know this will not be the last, but I am pretty proud of the fact that we made it 23 months TO THE DAY without any big bo-bos. It certainly could have been worse, and it already looks a ton better.

BUT THEN.... It happened again today! No kidding. Only now he has a bruise on the other eye.

Hence, the 'ugh.'

He took a tumble over the side of the couch while trying to get something off of the table. He landed on the wood floors between the couch and the table. I'm not sure what he hit to make the bruises he ended up with at the end of the night, but... he looks like he's been in some horrible playground brawl. I'm sure they'll be impressed at school tomorrow.

The swelling went down quickly the second go round, but it was pretty purple before he went to bed. He ended up with stripe-looking bruises across his eye. ??? I don't think it'll be too bad tomorrow. We'll see!

I left out a few of the details as I still shudder at what might have been. I just hate that his pretty little face is all bruised up, but I am VERY thankful that it wasn't any worse that this. I know one day we'll look back and laugh, but today was not one of those days.

Ugh.

And Then There Were Two...

...teeth, that is.

Yep, as of last weekend, that sweet little mouth now holds two very sharp chompers. And yep, I found out the hard way.

Bubbles

Because no trip to GranJan and Pappa's is complete without a bubble bath...

Even Buggy got in on some bubble action...

Monkey Business

Seriously, the child is climbing on everything now.

Yes, that is my great-grandmother's couch that he perches himself on to watch for Daddy (or to wave at the neighbor kids). Um... I admit I taught him that, but it was our only form of entertainment when we were powerless after Ike.

Yesterday, I caught him in the act of crawling up Laney's bed. I could hear her talking in her room on the monitor. Then I heard, "HI LA! HI LA LA LA LA!" Actually, I'm sure the neighbors could hear it too. Laney loved it though. She gave Carter a good belly laugh. And notice he tossed BB to her also? THAT is love. :)

(Sorry he had to do this when her sheets were in the wash. Pardon the 'ultimate crib sheet.' Though I highly recommend it for little ones, it's not the prettiest thing around.)

Time Flies...

Wow... can she really be 6 months old? Well, more than that by the time I write this.

Her stats:
Height: 26"
Weight: 16 lbs. 14 oz.

The best way for me to describe our Laney is to say she has such a gentle spirit and a sweet personality. She loves to play, don't get me wrong. But, she just loves to be loved.

A few things she's up to these days...

Bounces in jumperoo. Rolls and rolls and rolls. Loves to be on her tummy, except when she doesn't want to be on her tummy :) Eating fruits and veggies along with her cereal. Sits up and plays. Laughs at brother. Talks and talks and talks. Snugs her pinkie (blanket). Splashes in the bath. Great sleeper. Grabby, grabby, grabby. Chews on EVERYTHING - even while she eats.

I swear, some nights I look at her in her crib and really wonder where the time has gone. In a blink of an eye she went from this tiny little thing swaddled tight in a blanket to this sweet baby girl who sleeps on her side with her head cocked back almost perpendicular to her body - all the while cuddling with Pinkie. Of course as I'm watching she usually lets out a soft sigh which makes me completely melt, if I haven't already.

Carter seemed to grow up overnight when she was born. All of a sudden he was a boy - not a baby. And he's never looked back. But Laney has been growing and changing. In plain sight. Without us even realizing.

I could STILL snug her all night...

Miscellaneous

I have lots of specific updates to write (Laney's 6 month, San Antonio, Tribute to "BB" before he unravels), but I had some random pictures on the camera I thought I would go ahead and post.

She loves to sit and play now. Not the sturdiest just yet, but she's working on it.

Laney LOVES the jumperoo - just like Carter. And he likes to bring her toys while she's in it. Sometimes it's hard to see her!

Getting ready for night-night

This is Carter's "cheese" face that he has started doing when I get the camera out. I think he learned this from Elmo as I never told him to say that. ??? Out of focus, yes, but you get the idea.

Buggy playing in Brother's messy room.

She is his favorite toy now... and she loves it.

Another of the 'bedhead' collection. Picture doesn't do it justice. The texture actually felt different, too.

If you have heard Carter's 'phone voice' or seen him talking, you'll appreciate this one. She's learning from the master.

Love her new towel from Karalea!

This little boy loves his bubbles.
