Party Animals

The summer party season has officially begun!

The first Saturday in May, we had a Mother's Day breakfast, a Mother/Daughter tea party, and two birthday parties - followed by two more the next weekend. It really was a fun time. We met up with Joel and his mom and dad (and sister and brother-in-law and their kids) for breakfast after some walked/ran in the ovarian cancer 5k in honor of a friend of Janet's.

Laney and Avery (opposite). Not sure who the cute little one is in the middle!

Bugga and mom

Laney and I then headed for a tea party at Ainsley's house. It was adorable! She was so excited that it was a party 'just for girls. no boys.' Cristi had little tables set out for the girls, and they were each served tea (punch) in actual tea cups and saucers. She read them a cute, cute story about having tea with the queen (who turned out to be Grandma!!), and then we snacked and played. She loved it. Of course, she was super happy about getting a purple bow for her hair as a party favor. That was the icing on the cake!

After naps, Carter and Daddy headed to Hayden's ice skating party. I so wished Joel would have taken pictures, but I know he was busy. He said Carter actually did really well skating, and I had a few other parents tell me the same at church the next day. Carter said he had a great time. Joel's comment was: "We're not quite ready for hockey camp, but he did good."

Laney and I went to Avery's 'swimsuit 'party' - as Laney called it. Turns out that was pretty accurate for her as she never got in the water! Julie had floats for all the kids as party favors (great idea!), so Laney sat in her Dora float all around the pool like it was a lounger.

Laney and her lounge float - picture compliments of Julie!

The next weekend was cousin Drew's party on Saturday. I hate that we don't see Charlie and Drew (or Whitney and Sean!) any more than we do, but we certainly enjoy visiting when we do meet up. Cousin Drew had a dinosaur party, so that was right up Carter's alley. They got to "dig" in the sand box for dinosaurs, jump in the dino jump house, and they even had dinosaur hats. I only got one picture while we were there, and luckily all three kiddos were included.

Not the best picture of L, C, and Drew, but something to remember the day by at least :)

Sunday was Alannah's birthday party, Laney's sweet little friend from school. Laney had been talking about this party for WEEKS - literally. She was so excited. She would carry around the invitation and sing about the party and tell me she was 'so exciting' about going to see Alannah. And of course, she told us it was 'just for girls.' which we quickly corrected and told her boys would be there, too, so then she would say, ' it's just for ducklings' (her class). Anyway, I tried to squeeze in a photo shoot after church and before the party. I kept thinking the party was at 3:30 for some reason. We were sooo late! And, to top it off, on the way there, we got stopped by a train that got stuck! Poor Laney. I was almost in tears thinking we were going to miss it. We got there in time to have snacks and cake and visit with friends for a minute. I felt horrible, but Laney didn't care. I guess really she didn't know what we missed! This was the cutest little party in terms of party "stuff." Alannah's mommy and daddy are well known for their BEAUTIFUL cakes, and this was no different. It was a butterfly theme, and the cake was just fantastic - shaped like a butterfly! The party favors included a butterfly plate, place mat, and glitter cup. Then, we got home one day to discover a hand-crafted and hand-delivered butterfly craft/thank you note. It was too, too cute.

Fun times! Not too many pictures, but a fun round of parties for sure!

"Outdoor Day"

The kids had "Outdoor Day" at school on May 2. They were outside literally the entire day. We were told to dress the kids in 'very old play clothes' as they were guaranteed to get wet and dirty. There was music playing as we arrived, and everyone just met on the playground. Unfortunately, it was one of the only days in the last several months when we have had downright chilly weather with cloudy skies. Some of the kids were in sweats, some were in swimsuits! The school decided not to have all the events out due to the weather. The water slide and a few other things were removed.

Anyway, it was all things water! And a huge hit, I might add. There are lots of pictures (in no particular order, sorry), so I'll just describe as they come up. Easier to see a picture and then read the description.

There was a 'house' that the kids got to paint with rollers and brushes and anything else you could imagine.

The Three Musketeers

This was the 'car wash.' There was a misting hose attached to the top so that all the bikes and kids got sprayed when they went through. Kids LOVED this! They scrubbed their bikes with soap and water before and then rinsed off in the car wash. Sometimes, it was more fun to just run through it!

The 'water color mural.' Lots of spray bottles with different colors that the kids sprayed on the sheet. This is an after picture. You'll see the before soon!

My monkey on the monkey bars

Carter and Gen. Carter hearts Gen. We ALL heart Gen! Laney and Carter will fight over who gets to hold her hand walking to the car!

The school has a super big sand pit with a big playhouse on one side. They set up washing stations for baby dolls and anything else that could be wiped down. It was a little messy at the end of the day, but those dolls were squeaky clean! In the background is Laney's Duckling Class BFF - Alannah. She always, always talks about Alannah.

There was a long strip of bubble wrap on the ground. The kids could ride bikes down the hill and listen to it pop. Sometimes they would just jump on it or pop bubbles with anything they could find. Really cute idea. made me want to go buy something and have it shipped just for the wrap!

Laney getting her butterfly tattoo.

Carter with his snake tattoo and Gen with her kitty-cat tattoo.

Carter getting his tattoo - told you they weren't in order. By the end of the day, it looked like he had been punched. It was just a big swirl of black, green, brown, and yellow.

Laney at the car wash.

Alyssa, Carter, and Evin washing bikes.

Carter and Brady at one of the water tables.

Carter, Brady, and Evin fishing!

Another water table. The kids would play stand there forever and scoop little fish up with the giant pelican scooper.

The mural - before!

Laney and her friends (Lauren and Hunter) at the shaving cream table

One of the bubble stations with the biggest wands I have ever seen. (Megan, Lauren, Naomi, Laney, and Carter - a mix of both classes)

Hunter, Laney, and Isaac with their treats.

The event ended with popsicles for everyone! The weather had actually improved over the course of the morning, so nobody froze eating their treat.

The ladybugs!

We met up with Gen and Sarah for lunch, and I actually got sunburned sitting outside. Gotta' love Texas weather!

This was a super day, and the kids just ate it up. It was fun for me to get to see them play with their little friends and just kind of be a 'fly on the wall' for a day. I also enjoyed getting to participate in something for BOTH of their classes as they were out there at the same time. A little bonus for me as other Duckling parents didn't get to volunteer due to the age group (technically I was volunteering for the Ladybug class). School figured the kids would be super clingy if parents came for the little ones. Not my big girl. I couldn't find her half of the time, but she was always with a crowd! She loves playing with Carter's friends too. Funny to hear them all talk to each other! They knew most everyone on the playground and what class they were in!

Last Game for Our Little Giant...

Carter just finished is first season of t-ball with the YMCA. We were a little concerned after the first game, I'll be honest. It was chaos. Utter chaos. The coach was late. We didn't have uniforms. No one had a clue as to how to start. You get the idea. But... these boys really had fun and made drastic improvements as the season continued. There was the occasional meltdown, the mad-dash for the playgroup, even some daisy picking of course, but they did great! Hitting, throwing, fielding - big, big improvements from beginning to end.

We only ended up with 6 players, but that was better for us. The kids would get real antsy when we played big teams as EVERYONE had to take a turn at bat. Even the other teams' kids would lose interest! It was better with the smaller teams.

After the games, we would head to the playgroup. Not sure which Laney liked better - playing with the big boys or swinging at the playground. A toss up for sure.

Proud of you, Carter Bee Bop!

hangin' with J.

Their team was actually fielding the ball and making outs just a few games into the season! Of course, they didn't count. No one gets out in tball :)

Safe at first, out of focus

last minute tips from daddy

Speed Racer

The 'ready position.' It's not always pretty, but it works!

The team cheerleader and Carter's biggest fan (next to Mommy and Daddy, of course).

The celebratory end-of-season party!

Our little team - little in numbers only - minus one!

He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!!

Still funny to me to think there will be one more little one in the picture this time next year!

Easter Day weekend seemed to go by so fast this year! Saturday, we met GranJan and Pappa and Amy, David, and Bobby for lunch. Saturday night we met up with the Kadanes and went to church and dinner afterwards. It was a beautiful service of course. Music to give you goosebumps, and a message I never tire of! Such a blessing to serve a risen Saviour!

We tried to get a few pictures at church. I have come to terms with the fact that it may be several years before we get out of the fake smile phase and can have everyone still, groomed, and looking at the camera at one time. Oh... and maybe one day we can all be in the same picture!

Had to get a picture with 'Taire'

I worked for part of the first service Sunday morning, and then I met the rest of the family for brunch and Grandma and Grandpa Hill. The kids had made bunny cakes earlier in the week, and M&J had a great brunch prepared for everyone Sunday morning.

Egg Hunt - Part 2

Clearly this is a picture taken BEFORE the bunny appeared.

Our second hunt was with our Friday play group. We headed back to Claire's house for the festivities. Only this time, it was Joel's turn to dress up like the bunny! Karen didn't tell anyone else that we were even having a bunny, so it was a surprise to everyone. We rounded up the kids and told them to go inside as we had a surprise for them. Joel hopped into the backyard, and the kids all gathered around the big window to watch him hide the eggs. He was such a ham! He really did a great job. The bunny would hide behind trees and wave to the kids - it was really cute. Laney was mortified, of course, but Carter was a little more brave this time.

Afterwards, we headed to lunch with Michele and Jayson.

This is about as close as Carter would get. Laney was screaming anytime we would go near the bunny. Ironically, she was yelling for daddy!
