Utah State Fair

So I entered a picture in the Utah State Fair.

It was a last minute kind of thing. One day I hurried and cut a mat and put my Chris LeDoux picture in a frame I have and ran it downtown. I didn't expect to place at all this year.

Last year I placed with my picture of George Harrison. If you ask me, my picture of Chris LeDoux has less detail and is not as good as my picture of George Harrison so I really didn't think it would do well in the show.

I just wanted to enter.

I was surprised to find that I had won 3rd place! So exciting to me!!

Willie Nelson

So this one is really big too! It's as big as my wolf. (on paper that is 18" x 24") These big ones take a long time and a lot of detail. I finally finished this picture of Willie Nelson though. For those of you who voted here on my blog, Willie won. So, here he is...

Wolf

So...don't be too hard on me here. This is the first animal I have ever attempted to draw. It's also the first time I've drawn a picture this big. This was the biggest paper I could get for drawing (other than canvas and such). It's about 18" x 24". Pretty big. Pretty time consuming.

Half his face is behind a tree...if you couldn't tell.

Jimi Hendrix Charcoal

Sorry, it's been a while. I actually drew this before all the crazy wedding stuff but I haven't had time to post it. This is a charcoal of Jimi Hendrix I did on my real big paper. It was a lot of fun!

(His lips are like that on purpose. He's blowing smoke out his mouth.)

Winning with George...

So I entered my charcoal of George Harrison in the Taylorsville Art Show.

Here he is hanging on some bars to prove that he really was in the show...

Here's a little paper with my name on it taped to the bars to prove I really entered him...
And here is my ribbon to prove that I really did win.

Creating George...

This picture I drew in charcoal is George Harrison. It's the first big picture I have drawn on my new big paper. (Thanks to Marci! Shout out to ya!) It's 14" by 17". I had never drawn a picture that big before but it doesn't take as long as I thought it would so I look forward to drawing bigger in the future!!

...And here he is done!

Rob Thomas! ~Charcoal

So I haven't had much time lately to draw, but I'm trying to make the time because I just LOVE it!! Here's a charcoal I just finished of Rob Thomas. Sorry, I forgot to take pictures as I went along, i just have the finished product. This first picture turned out a little dark, but the second one is lighter.

Colored Pointillism

I finally finished it! I've been working on this one for so long! Here is my colored pointillism of John Lennon...

Close up of his left eye.

His mouth.
His whole face.

Tom Petty

I'm not the best at oil pastels, but I think they are kinda fun. Adds a little color to my life. :)

The first picture here is the one from the magazine, the other three are mine.

Robert Plant

Robert Plant in Charcoal my friends. Rob is hard to draw because you have to try to capture the pure evil in his eyes, I did my best. Sorry if you don't quite get the chills you should when you look at him.

His hair was incredibly time consuming.

And finished.

Johnny Cash Charcoal

So this picture was kinda hard for me because his face is so contorted. I wanted to straighten up his nose and mouth and align his eyes...but I didn't. I tried to stick to just drawing it how it was.

This one is the actual print, it was hard to get a good picture of, sorry.

And these are my drawings of it...

Three Pointillisms

I was asked to draw these three pictures of Debbie's kids for Christmas. These are pointillisms done with small ball point pen. And yes, I did go through quite a few pens. :)

This first one is Stephanie. Her eyes were really fun to me. Eyes usually are my favorite facial feature to draw, but the reflections shown on her eyes were particularly fun.

I had fun with Nicole's hair. I liked doing her bangs with the random strans across her forehead. I also enjoyed how dark it got toward the bottom with the earings mixed in, the contrast there was fun.

Yes, Mickey's hair is where most of my pens began to fade out. I was wishing I had some pen that would calculate how many dots were drawn because there are thousands and thousands of dots here.

And here they all are together.
