Dorothy

Dear Family,

I apologize for not writing last quarter.  I guess I could come up with lots of excuses, like getting ready for Penny’s wedding and a bunch of other things.  I know we are all busy but still, I feel it is important to record what is happening in our lives for the sake of our children and whoever else may be interested one day.  I know I have always enjoyed reading the recorded histories of our ancestors, so I will continue to record my history through the “lingo.”

Since our fabulous reunion in March where Penny and Chad announced their engagement to the family, much has happened, but the most important thing in our family was the temple marriage of Penny to Chad Wallace in the Oquirrh Mountain Temple, June 27, 2014. Thanks to all of you who came and/or supported them in some way or another.  During April, May, and June, there was a lot of wedding planning and preparing, including a fun grocery shower that was held at Emily’s home in May.  Thanks again Emily for allowing us to have it there in you spacious and lovely home.

Penny and Chad had their honeymoon at Disney World in Florida.  Just days after they returned Penny left with a few of her former mission companions and traveled back to their mission area in Alberta, Canada for about 10 days. Penny and Chad lived in an apartment close to the freeway in Spanish Fork until the end of this weekend.  Then they will be moving to an apartment in Mapelton.  Penny also started working at a new job in Provo last week.  It is so great to see them so happily married.

Heather went to London England for two weeks in June, traveling with another girl that served with her on her mission in Alberta.  She came home just in time for Penny’s wedding.  A week after the wedding,  she and I drove to Nauvoo and spent two weeks there.  Thanks Rick & Misty for letting us stay at your home during that time.  I saturated myself in everything there was to do in Nauvoo during the day while Heather attended to her duties on the Family Support Team for the family cast (babysitting).  Most evenings we were together when she taught how to make rag rugs at the country fair prior to the pageant each night (I use mine in the kitchen now).  For the first time this year, two pageants were presented.  The Nauvoo pageant was performed three nights each week and on alternating nights, the new British Pageant was performed.  I think I watched each one at least three times.  Each pageant was fabulous, with very talented performers.  Several families and 7 main actors/actresses came over from Great Britain to spend the summer in Nauvoo.  Without getting too lengthy about the details, just know that the spirit of Nauvoo is something we wish all of you might experience one day.  Plan to come in July when the pageants are presented and stay for at least 3 or 4 days.  And if you want to take it one step further, commit to two weeks with your family and be in the family cast (apply on line).

As soon as we came home from Nauvoo, we went to our Tomlinson reunion in Idaho the end of July.  We’re so glad that tradition of meeting at least once a year with Alan’s family continues.

A week during August we went on our family vacation to Oregon.  We brought Mom with us as far as Boise, then Lucy spoiled her during the 5 days we were gone.   It was fun to have two sisters to accommodate us at the beginning and ending of our vacation.  Thank you Lucy and Jennifer.  In between, James, Lynnette, Kevin, Marcus, Alan, and I stayed in Grants Pass, OR.  We went to Glacier Lake, Oregon Caves, a Redwood Forest in California, and a beach in Crescent City, CA.  After picking up Mom on the way home, we went to the Ogden Temple open house which was a very nice way to end our vacation.

Daniel had the part of a suitor in “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” during the summer when they performed at the Scera Shell Outdoor Theater in Orem.  Then the same cast performed during BYU Education Week at the DeJong Concert Hall.

Marcus is taking 3 art classes at SLCC this semester and continues to work at Little Caesars Pizza.

It is really nice to have Jason’s family live just a 5 minute drive away.  They have announced that they will be having a baby boy at the beginning of 2015.  We are so happy for them!

James and Lynnette are living in Diane & Manfred Cieslak’s home in Bluffdale, taking care of it while they are on their 18 month mission at the church sites in New York.  James & Lynnette are enjoying the extra bonus of all their fruit trees… and so am I!

Kevin is on institute council and is really enjoying his association there.  He also has a special assignment to play the piano at the Westridge Branch in our stake each Sunday.  He continues to fill our house with fun and beautiful music with his piano playing.

Ariane had two companions during April when she was serving in Morristown, Tennessee and had a very positive experience with them.  She has been serving in Brevard, North Carolina since May and is on her third companion since she has been there.  The companion she has now was in the MTC with her and they traveled to the mission together.  They have lots of investigators that they are teaching and are looking forward to more baptisms that they hope will take place as scheduled.

Alan and I love working at the temple.  We really enjoyed the spirit we felt at the Ogden Temple dedication Sunday.  We are looking forward to General Conference and gathering with some of the family, including Jennifer and Priscilla while they are here for their short trip.

We look forward to hearing from all of you!
Love, Dorothy and family

The Gilbert's are doing great! We had a lovely summer in Seattle with many camping trips around the Pacific Northwest in our vintage pop-up trailer. Summer was exceptionally hot, with more-than-usual sunny days--we're still hitting 80 degrees during the week, so it'll be nice when Fall decides to finally kick in and cool things off a bit.

Ammon is still working for Xbox. His current 'project' is downsizing for our eventual move into a Tiny House, which means purging things like Movie Collections and other space-consuming items that aren't essential. It's been a fun process, and a lot of work, but will pay off in the end, though we're still at least a year away from taking the Tiny House plunge.

Angela has gone back to school for her Master's in Teaching, and still finds the time to do awesome things for the kids, watch Miles day-in and day-out, manage a few websites, and serve on the PTA. Basically, she is a rock star.

Finn just started 1st Grade and is going to a new school that is newly remodeled. He likes his teacher and likes that we're just a 7 minute walk to school from our house.

Harper is in pre-K and loves socializing with her friends, taking dance class, singing,  and doing gymnastics.

Miles just turned two and is a constant source of entertainment. He holds his own as the youngest by being louder and bolder than the older two. He loves playing on the swing set / jungle gym we scored for free in our background, chasing around Harper and Finn, and has become super picky about what clothes he wears.

Hello  Lindgren family.

Hope you are all doing well. Things are well with our family. Our oldest is in high school this year. She is learning to play the oboe and got a part time job as a student custodian. Our eighth grader is learning the violin and teaching piano lessons. Both girls play volleyball on recreation teams and church teams. Alexander has a lead in our local children's theater and has decided  he loves acting. Benjamin is playing flag football for the first time. Our baby is almost two and it's so fun to watch her learn and put little sentences together.

We are having fun going to the BYU football games to cheer them on but mainly to get the awesome stadium food! For reals--the Philly cheese steaks are to die for. We saw Lucy’s family at the last game --at least the backs of their heads. It's also fun to see Emily and her family and Grandma every now and then.

Ryan and Cheyney visited this summer on their way to move up to Washington state. Ryan now has his 2nd and 3rd masters degrees. I told him he was fine just having one but he feels the need to impress me I guess!  ;) Their family is so cute.

My parents are enjoying their church  service as they haul tourists back and forth to tour temple square and introduce them to Salt Lake. My dad continues to be a host at the Conference Center and also a temple worker. Adeline and I enjoy meeting up with my mom once a week for lunch and parks and museums. They are enjoying their travels to Canada and Boston and South Dakota at MT Rushmore.

Love to you all.

Hi Family,
The newest member of the Hanlon family is now Ryan Slone. He married Krista August 23.  I'm still waiting to see the photographer's pictures but I'll add my favorite of what I took...already posted on facebook.

Just a week before school started on Wed. August 6, Erlend (pronounced like Alan) Øverbø arrived here from Sauland, Norway as a high school exchange student.  He will be with us the entire school year.  His birthday is May 22, 1997.  High school graduation here is May 22.  He is considered a junior because he goes to school 13 years in Norway.  He seems to be having a good time.

Bryan's latest adventure is with the White Mountain Youth Productions.  They help produce the White Mountain Sports Game of the week (high school football) live stream on www.italk1067.com on Friday nights.  Bryan can be seen and heard as a commentator.

Isaiah asked if we could go to General Conference again.  We asked our stake if we could get tickets again and at first they said no...they like to spread the opportunity around, but then they told us this week that no one else had asked and it was first come first served, so we could have some.  So we are planning on coming up for that quick weekend.  Bryan will be in Tucson at a soccer tournament.

Other Hanlon news (just in case they don't share themselves):  Desree and Jesse moved to Kileen, Texas (Fort Hood area).  They are closer to Jesse's three sons.  They seem to like the weather and the school quite well so far and now they are only a 14 hour drive away from me....hmm, might make a trip.

Sarah has started graduate school (a monthly all day Saturday class) in Battleboro, Vermont...about an hour drive from where she lives, getting a degree in not-for-profit management.

Krista landed a new full-time job in the billing department of a doctor's office.

James is in his senior year at ASU.  He enjoyed his month in Korea with young (junior high) students of English.

Hyrum is receiving his 3rd large scholarship, this one through ROTC Navy, so his needs are well taken care of.  He is loving school and just purchased a car "so he can get his uniform dry-cleaned."

And Isaiah and I are at the junior high and Jim is at the other junior high enjoying what junior high kids do, like nerd day today, Isaiah's class took house cup.

Had a great 11-yr-old camp at Camp Heber again this year and last week we held a stake Primary Activity for 10 and 11-yr-old girls at Camp Silver Creek.  The girls made gumball necklaces and got to shoot bb guns.  Some went swimming in the creek, and some went hiking.  They made dinner in their ward groups, performed skits and songs for each other and listened to a member of the stake presidency (Pres. Peterson, or as Jeff and Jenny remember him; Doc Peterson)  He talked about treating family members kindly and spending time with your parents so we can be forever families.

I love you all and want to wish Mom a very happy 89th birthday and hope you all enjoy nice Autumn weather.
Love, Priscilla
