Exploring the Mountains

ski lift

A week ago we went on a cabin ski lift. I wanted to do it since we got to Sofia but we always had something else to do. Finally last Sunday we put the kids in the car and went. We spent such a great time together. Emma proclaimed it "the best day ever". Even though she is easy to impress I agreed 100% with her.

The views from up there were breathtaking. We hiked a little but it was a bit cold out there and we did not bring warm jackets with us.

I took a couple of pictures of my treasures. It was not an easy task though. They are like little cockroaches all looking and running in different directions.

Then I thought that I should post all these pictures on my blog so Suzy and Roger will see them and come visit us this or next winter. Skiing should be very nice here and I checked out the slopes for you, guys! :) And you can cross skiing in Bulgaria off your bucket list (I am sure it's on your list).

I think we found our new favorite place and will go there as often as we can.

Buttons

Kakes

Last night while I was making dinner, this crazy monkey girl found a panic button. To explain, we were given two sets of panic buttons just in case emergency happens. They look like car door openers and they are silent as in you do not hear any noise coming out of them when you push a button but the security guys hear it really well. I found out about it when three cars of security guys came to my door and started asking me if I was okay. I was embarrassed to say the least, but now I know that those buttons work for reals.
Apparently K just panicked a little about something while I wasn't looking.

And yes, I agree, they need to be put somewhere up high where kids can't reach them. I guess, Matt doesn't feel safe sleeping with me as he "hid" one in the drawer of his bed stand.

Borisova Gradina Park

October 14, 2012

You know how there are cities in Europe when you go and say "Wow! This place has so much history and character and overall is so pretty." Sofia isn't one of them. Or at least I think so for now. There is not much you can go see in the city. I am perhaps judging it too early in our stay here. My opinion might and probably will change as I get used to living here and find things to love here.

So today I will tell you what I like the most about Sofia after living here for almost three months. When you look at the city from up high you will see two big green splotches. Those are the two big parks of Sofia. And by parks I don't mean usual American parks with a playground and three trees around it. These parks are like forests with paths for people to walk around and yes, maybe if you walk far enough you might find a playground but mainly it's for walking and enjoying the nature. I love that bulgarians built things around, preserving these parks instead of replacing them with more buildings or some other stuff.

We went to one of them last Sunday - the Borisova Gradina park.

park

We had such a wonderful time as a family. Girls loved riding their bikes. Matt and I loved walking and kinda talking.

Kiki

This girl rode in the stroller and then ran around for a little playing with rocks.

Monkeys

After our walk we stopped at the trampoline corner and let our monkeys jump their hearts out.
Such a great place to go to with family. We'll be spending there a lot of time for sure.

And that is the first thing I like about Sofia - two big green splotches in the middle of the city.

I Took a Walk

roads

I took a walk today. It's been so long since I went on a walk which is longer than going from a car to a store. It felt very nice and refreshing. As much as I want to say I will go on a walk everyday from now on, I can't. Sofia is not a walkable city. And where we live it's even more un-walkable. There are many things that are keeping me from walking here. Scary barking dogs, no side-walks, or if there are side walks, there's poop and potholes on them, cars that drive a little too fast, and other things like that. Katelyn loved being in a stroller though so I might try to go more often. Which would be twice a month instead of once.

I just thought I'd show you a picture from my walk today. And complain a little while at it.
