More Thanksgiving

More Thanksgiving!  We had a lovely Thanksgiving dinner at Becky's house, and played a dice game with little toys as prizes (now I have super balls all over the house).  We also had some more fun playing around the house, and helped Becky pick out a Christmas tree.  And, the guys went to an Augusta Riverhawks hockey game and Nathan was given an official game puck by one of the players!

Lights of the South

Now an annual tradition for us, this was David's first time at Lights of the South, and he was super excited.  Nathan had a blast pointing out everything that we were going to see.  We did the hayride twice, and the kids had fun in the kids play area.  Unfortunately, the kids train was not running, but the kids didn't seem to mind.  Nor were they allowed s'mores, since they didn't eat their dinners.  Ah well....more fun to have when the Nemecek clan comes to visit in just a couple weeks! Here are some pictures - someday we will walk the lights instead of riding, and will actually get some decent pictures!

Thanksgiving with Papa and Nana

My parents came down for Thanksgiving again this year, and the kids had a blast playing around, flying airplanes in the back yard, and enjoying a week off from school.  Pretty much I think I should just post tons of pictures for this post, so here goes! This first set of pictures involves the kids being very silly, plus some outdoor photos with the balsa wood airplane.

Oka'Chaffa Indian Festival

This Indian Festival was held at Phinizy Swamp mid-November, and we were very much looking forward to taking the kids and seeing the demonstrations, especially since Nathan is learning a lot about Native Americans this year.  We were able to see a Native American teepee set up, as well as check out a bison, listen to a backwoodsman talk about his tools, and see a hides tanning demonstration.  Nathan was in a rather bad mood, however, and refused to ask questions of anyone, even when he wanted to know why the backwoodsman's horse was painted (turns out it wasn't his horse, so not a good answer there anyway!)  Also most of the booths were folks selling rather similar and touristy Native American items, and we couldn't find any kids' activity booths, so that was rather disappointing.  On the bright side, Josh got to hold a baby alligator!  It was an interesting experience, but not one we plan to repeat.

Twisted Fence Alpaca Farm

*This blog post is brought to you by Nathan, who was assigned a journal entry about his field trip to Twisted Fence Alpaca Farm.*

This is about the alpaca farm.  First, we petted cats.  Then we looked at alpacas.  We went to one of them two times and I got tickled!  The alpaca was curious and he nuzzled me and sniffed me in the ear!  I felt air in my ear!  That's how I know that he sniffed me in the ear!  Then we got to feed one, and I got tickled with his top gums!  Alpacas only have bottom teeth; they don't have any top teeth.  Then we fed chickens, and our guide told us about them.  The guide told us that the chickens eat any bugs that alpacas don't want.  We looked at baby alpacas before we fed the chickens, and the guide told us the names of the baby alpacas.  And we got to pet an Angora rabbit, and it was very soft, and it's hair grows really fast!

After we fed the animals, we touched some wool.  Next, we washed it, and got more of the dirt out.  Then we watched our guide pick the yarn to comb it and get out even more dirt.  Next we waited in line to turn the crank of the drum carder.  David put his in and the person after him started cranking, and then it was my turn to put the wool in and David cranked, and then the one after me put his wool in and I cranked.  Then we watched the spinning and we each got a piece of yarn.  Last, we did a weaving craft and David did a coloring and gluing craft.  And then we went home.  The End. byyeeeeee!
