Some of the uses of most common Essential Oils

There is a wide variety of essential oils but today I will speak of some of the most common ones.

🌻 Lemon is cleansing and detoxifying as well as a great disinfectant. It is great for cooking and cleaning and invigorating as a flavoring for your water. (Only certain brands can be used internally). Please make sure to check the labels prior to consumption.

🌻Lavender is calming and relaxing, helps with your skin, sleep and mood as well as with skin itching, cuts and burns.

🌻Peppermint is cooling and supports your tummy and headache tension as well as provides focus. It is also good for aches and pains, it helps cool the body and it is good for your belly.

🌻Melaleuca or Tea Tree Oil supports your ears, your skin, and your nails and it is antibacterial, cleansing and antiseptic. It is also good for lice and other critters. It is supportive for healthy nails and feet.

🌻Oregano Oil is an immune powerhouse which supports your immune system and your digestion.

🌻Frankincense is restoring for your skin, your immune system and your emotional balance and nervous system. It also supports aches and pains, gives cellular support for stress and anxiety.

image In honor of Spring I will be talking about this floral Essential Oils and their benefits. Clary Sage is a perennial herb that grows up to six feet tall. Its known for its calming properties and benefits to the skin. In the Middle Ages the Clary Sage plant was frequently used as a skin soother. It can be used during your menstrual cycle to ease the pain by rubbing three to five drops on the abdomen. It can be combined with Roman Chamomile and added to your bath water for a stress-relieving bath. It can be used with a diffuser or applied to a pillow at night to promote a restful sleep. It can be added to you shampoo and your conditioner to promote healthy hair and scalp. Helichrysum is often referred to as “The Everlasting Flower” and is often used to prevent signs of aging as it has rejuvenating benefits for the skin and ability to improve the complexion. It has been used in since ancient Greece and the oil is highly valued and sought after for its many health benefits. It is best known for its restoraive properties to the skin. It can help reduce the appearance of blemishes, and it promotes a glowing, youthful complexion. Geranium is a member of the Pelargonium genus of flower species, they are grown for their beauty and as a staple of the perfume industry. Uses of Geranium essential oil goes back to ancient Egypt when the Egyptians used Geranium oil to beautify the skin among other benefits. In the Victorian Era, fresh geranium leaves were placed at formal dining tables as decorative pieces and to be consumed as a fresh sprig. The edible leaves and flowers of the plant are often used in desserts, cakes, jellies and teas. Geranium is used as an essential oil to promote the appearance of clear skin and healthy hair making it ideal for skin and haircare products. It also helps calm nerves and lessen feelings of stress.  It is known also for repelling insects. Ylang Ylang is derived from the star-shaped flowers of the Ylang Ylang tree and it is used extensively in making perfumes and in aromatherapy. It has been used for centuries in religious and wedding ceremonies. Ylang Ylang is used to lessen tension and stress and to promote a positive outlook. It can also be added to Epson Salt bath for relaxation. Finally we move to one of my favorites which is Lavender. It has been used for centuries by the Egyptians and the Romans for bathing, cooking and as perfume. Lavender is very versatile and it can be used in many ways. You can add a few drops to your pillow, bedding or bottom of your feet to promote a restful night’s sleep. You can freshen your linen closet, mattress, car or the air by combining Lavender with water in a spray bottle.

Essential oils have been around for over 5,000 years. They are aromatic compunds found in the different parts of a plant such as the root, the stem, the bark and the flower. They are what give plants their fragrance. They have been used throughtout the years for food preparation (depending on the brand as not all brands are edible), beauty treatments and health-care practices.

There are many different oils which can be used for a wide range of emotional and physical wellness application. They can be used as a single oil or can be mixed with other oils and carrier oils depending on what it is being used for.

Essential oils can be applied topically, aromatically and some brands have oils that can be ingested using the brand’s guidelines.
