Maui...here we come!

Lynn and I will be headed to Maui in a couple of weeks to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. It will be our first time going there. To those who have been to Maui, is there anything you think we "must see" or "must do"? Any other tips or advice?

GEEEZZZZ!!!

Man! Has it seriously been since December that I last blogged? Time has officially sprouted wings and is flying right by! We had a fabulous Christmas and thanks to everyone for all of the wonderful gifts. We were able to visit with our family and many friends over the holidays. We feel so lucky to have so many people that we care about and (hopefully) they care a little about us too!

2009 is skippity-skipping along at a too-fast pace. To prove this is happening, just look at what our lovely daughter did on February 2nd. Without asking our permission, she turned 14 right before our eyes. We have photographed the event and would like you to see for yourself (isn't she cute?)

Hey! Slow down, March! My birthday's coming up in a few months and I'm not ready to be 40-something-ish yet!!!

Good morning, Deer....

When I let the dogs out back this morning, I noticed something different on the horizon. At first I thought it was fake because it stood still for so long, but it finally walked down the hill and disappeared. We've seen the occasional deer on the golf course and even saw one by the golf resort, but it was so cool to sit on the back porch and watch this big guy through the binoculars. I'm glad he stood and posed for awhile so I could get a photo of him.

Thanksgiving weekend

We had a great Thanksgiving weekend. Lynn's sister, Sarah, her husband, Chris, and their kids Savannah, Talia & Caleb visited us from Utah. They also brought their gigantic dog, Diesel. We had just the right combination of relaxation and fun. This year, I brined the turkey the night before I cooked it. It was a new experience for me, I've heard of brining but never tried it. It ended up tasting so good...I will be brining from here on out! When Lynn tried to take the turkey out of the roasting pan, it just fell apart. Brining makes the meat taste a little more salty but it is very tender and juicy. I forgot to take pictures of our delicious meal (and those partaking of it!).

I did get some pictures of our Saturday excursion on Dolly Steamboat at Canyon Lake. It is a great way to spend a couple of hours and quite relaxing, especially when the weather is good. We would recommend taking a ride on old Dolly if you have the time. We also saw some Bighorn Sheep way up on the cliff next to the lake.

I'M SOOOOO FAR BEHIND!!!

So have you been wondering what the heck happened? Where are those Hunsakers anyways? Every day I look at about 10 different blogs of friends and family. I love looking at their photos and reading about what's going on with them. Then I think about updating my blog and suddenly I remember I need to get back to work or do laundry or something else. I wait so long in between posts that I forget how to post!! So, I haven't posted anything since our trip to Italy which was months ago. Instead of going into detail about the happenings of our lives in the past 5 months...I'm going to post a few photos and a line or two describing the picture. AND, hopefully, after I finish here, I will keep a more updated blog. What good is a blog if you don't update it anyhow? Exactly. So here we go...

In April, MedOne participated in the MDA Walk at Tempe Town Lake. We had a booth, brought a few wheelchairs to display, handed out candy, water, juice and pens.
Channel 3's weekend weather girl, Brittany, gets the walk started!

Lynn FINALLY got his drums! He loves them and he's good, too!
ROCK ON.....

In June, we again had some special visitors to our front porch. I went outside to get the mail one day and noticed something had been digging in my plant, throwing dirt EVERYWHERE!!

Upon further inspection, I found 1 small speckled egg, all alone in a small crater where all this dirt used to be. Each day another egg was added to the crater....eventually there would be 15.Momma quail would sit on the eggs all day and night. She would leave about 5:00 pm every day to eat, I guess, then return for more sitting, and sitting, and sitting......Until one day.....
They hatched! Well, most of them
anyhow. The entire family
disappeared soon after I took this
picture. They were SO CUTE!
We had the privilege of having 3
different nests in our yard this year.
One on the front porch and 2 in the
back yard. I feel like a chicken farmer.
WILL POST MORE SOON...I PROMISE!!!

Buongiorno!!

Okay, so we've been back for a couple of weeks, but haven't found the time to update our blog...so here we go! My mom, sister Jayme, Misty and I had a blast in Italy. It was truly a learning experience...learning their customs, learning how to order food and drinks, learning to keep a close eye on your money, and learning how to hover over the toilets since they don't believe in seats!! We spent the first portion of our trip in Rome and toured the Colosseum, the Forum, and Trevi Fountain. One day we traveled to Pompeii, which was one of the highlights of the trip. We were able to spend a day on our own, shopping and exploring.
Halfway through the week, we packed up and transferred to Florence by bus. On the way to Florence, we stopped in Orvieto. Orvieto is a beautiful hilltop village surrounded by the Tuscan countryside. We shopped and had a catered lunch in an old theater.

Florence was a bustling city, smaller than Rome, and has the Arno River flowing through it. We spent one day on our own doing some shopping and one day we went to Lucca and Pisa. We even made a stop at the Mediterranian Sea for some quick photos. Lucca is a small village surrounded by a fortress wall. It is the birthplace of the Italian opera composer Puccini (he composed La Boheme and Madama Butterfly). Of course, we had to do MORE shopping there! We enjoyed Pisa, also, and seeing how much the Leaning Tower actually leans. You can actually pay a small fee to climb the stairs to the top of the tower. I'd rather keep my feet on solid ground, rather than climbing to the top of a tall tower that looks like it's going to tip over!
We had lots of Gelato while there. Misty discovered she liked the Tiramisu flavor the best and we are currently searching for a local gelato shop that serves Tiramisu flavor.
We are so thankful for the experience of traveling to Italy. Misty and I missed Lynn a lot and were glad to come home to see him. He missed us, too, and we were able to talk over the phone several times while we were gone. Misty and I each threw a coin into Trevi Fountain, which means that we will return to Italy again someday. Hopefully, next time we go, Lynn will join us...he would love it!

IT'S ALMOST TIME!!!!

Misty and I are getting ready to leave for Italy in just 2 days!! We are anxious to get this trip under way. We have so much stuff to take, I don't know how we'll get by with just 1 suitcase each! I can't decide which part of the trip I'm most looking forward to. Pompeii seems to be what is grabbing my attention at the moment...but I think the entire experience will be wonderful. Just to be in a country other than our own, where the lifestyle is different, where the buildings are centuries old and still functional, it will be such an opportunity to learn. The thing Misty is NOT looking forward to is the fact that many of the male statues there are wearing their birthday suits. This may be traumatic for her!!! =0) We will be posting photos and stories when we return.......
