Week in Review...

Draper Utah Temple
Open HouseIt's funny how weeks can seem so busy, yet so uneventful. Such is my life-I suppose. We started the week by attending the Draper Temple Open House. We intended to photograph our trip, but found little opportunity for pictures. We met at a church building and watched an introductory video and then were shuttled up to the temple site. The church couldn't have picked a more gorgeous piece of property for the new temple. It sits in the hills overlooking the valley and is surrounded by the most amazing homes I have ever seen. As we toured the building I was struck by its simple, yet elegant decor. (Lots of golds, greens and browns) It was truly breathtaking. Noelle talks alot about getting married in the temple, so it was fun to show her the "inside" which she asks so often to see. She says she is going to marry her daddy in her married dress in the temple. She also suggested that we bring a Christmas tree in to decorate the temple. (Funny kid) The building had the most calming feeling. I love teaching Noelle about how important the temples are to our faith and our worship.

Noelle is now doing preschool on Mondays and Wednesdays. This was an off-week for me. We rotate and the weeks off are great. They talked about the letter P- (popcorn, princesses, pie) She is really getting curious about her letters, but doesn't quite match them to the sounds yet. We have enrolled her in a gymnastics class up north about 1/2 hour. It is a gym tied to Tricks back at home and has a really similar feel and curriculum. I walked in and felt at home- had to sign her up. She is now in a class by herself. (No longer parent participation) I am finding that she is pretty coordinated and familiar with the skills, but tends to wonder off and needs quite a bit of redirection. (She is still little) I love, love, love watching her enjoy the sport that has brought me so much joy!

Corom is getting really fast on hands and knees. He is like a little bolt of lightning- always on the move! He can happily entertain himself for hours as he explores the house. He has a silly little 2-toothed grin and a fuzzy little head of hair that is getting thicker. We can never keep it tamed. I am still struggling with odd sleep habits. He simply prefers not to sleep, though is now down for a nice little nap. Noelle and I have taken a nap almost everyday this week. The snowy weather just makes me sleepy. We have started Corom on real finger foods. He is such a tiny little guy, in the 1 percentile for height and 2 percentile for weight in his age. So, we thought he was a picky eater, he was just holding out for the good stuff. Now he won't stop. Anything he can chew with 2 teeth, he will eat. (Peas, pasta, fruit, toast, turkey, tortilla, etc.) He seems so much happier!

Tonight we are doing a movie night- we've been renting all of the Disney princess movies for Noelle. We are on week #3 of Friday night movies and have watched Cinderella, Mulan and the Little Mermaid. I forgot how much I love The Little Mermaid. Noelle sings all of the songs. "I've got bananas and apples of plenty" -(I've got gadgets and gismos of plenty-sings Ariel) We are finally seeing some sun today, so I'm hoping for a nice weekend. It has been such a cold week! Sorry there aren't any pictures this week. Our camera has been in the car- unless I can grab it quickly, moments are lost. Hope you all are doing well! California family, we miss you! Noelle keeps asking when we can come out again.

Hummus Recipes Anyone?

I was so excited to buy all of the ingredients for hummus. We go through the the containers so quickly- even Noelle loves it! I soaked the beans overnight and let them cook all morning. When I compiled the recipe it just was not good. It seemed to have a really nutty taste (Almost like peanut butter) I've heard so many people rave about homemade hummus- is there a good recipe out there? Afterall, I did invest in a jar of tahini paste!

A night out on the town...

Every weekend I look forward to a night on the town, usually dinner and sometimes a little shopping. (Burritos, pizza, etc.) There is something so relaxing about having a night off of cooking/dishes and spending time together as a family. It is well worth the tab! We call it date night, though since we have moved here our date nights include 2 little people, one who we have to spoon feed and the other who just likes to talk alot! As much as I love spending time with them, I long for quiet time with Dan and a chance to talk about something other the kid-stuff. On Saturday night, our neighbor Ashley volunteered to watch the kids. (YEAHHHHH!) The kids are so comfortable at her house that they were happy as can-be when dropped off and the same when picked up. We went and had a yummy dinner and shopped for a baby gate. (a topic I'll save for another post) IT WAS FABULOUS! Today in church we were talking about the importance of strengthening marriages and spending time together. It is so important! So, a huge thank you to Ashley for allowing us to get out alone! I owe you!

HAPPY JANUARY!

Meet our new neighbors- they are all over our complex and right outside our window!

Happy January to all! I thought it might be fun to post some day-to-day photos to show you all what we have been up to. Last week Dan went back to school after having had almost a month off. Back to reality- good to be back on routine with preschool, cleaning, naps, etc., but life is just not as fun without Daddy at home! We forgot how tiring it is for him to juggle working nights and school during the days. He and Corom having been falling asleep at 7:30 every night. (Don't let that early bed time fool yah- Corom still wakes up multiple times in the night- hence me being too tired to blog at night!) It hasn't been snowing for the last few weeks, so we have been trying to get outside to play. We love walking around looking at the snow and the deer that have moved into our complex. Over all, we are just having fun. Spending so much time inside with the winter, Noelle's imagination just runs wild. How fun it is to play! Corom is now on the move and crawling all over the place. I was cooking and I looked down and he was at my feet! We are just crazy about this little guy- he is such a joy and happy-happy! Hope you are all doing well! Enjoy the pics-

Noelle and I had a dance party tonight! Too bad you can't see the one of me!

Look at this happy kid!

What a wonderful day when they start eating finger foods! Just another step
towards freedom for me! (And he loves it too!)

We used Noelle's pink piano to play primary songs for family home evening!
Noelle enjoying family home evening dessert!

My favorite time of the day is bathing the kids together in the morning.
This towel ritual makes them laugh every day!

Corom is now big enough to cruise in the red car! (Sorry-I didn't rotate)

She can now ride her trike! Last summer she was too small! Yeah Noelle!

She wears this outfit everyday! Hey- when you find something you
look good in- you want to wear it-right?

Noelle likes to pretend that the photo albums are lap-tops!

Sledding with the Shirley Cousins

I love this girl!

Daddy and Noelle
It was fun to break from the post-Christmas chores to get out with the cousins. I was the one behind the camera. One time down the hill and I proved that I am  a wimp on a sled. Even my 3 year old showed me up. Nonetheless we enjoyed our time with the Shirleys!

Happy New Years to all! 2009-can you believe it? What a wonderful Christmas season this year. I know, my last post was a month ago... I have been craving some quiet blogging time. Sorry it has been so long. We kicked off December with a visit from Dan's parents. We enjoyed some of the festive things that Salt Lake offers during the holidays- Temple Square with its gorgeous lights and the Festival of Trees. We saw Santa and built ginger bread houses. The week of the 12th, the kids and I flew out to Sacramento to visit with family and to allow Dan some quiet time during finals week and peak season at work. We had a wonderful visit and felt so spoiled at my mom and dad's house. We spent the week bouncing back and forth between the families. Dan joined us on the 19th by making the long, long drive "All by himselfes" as Noelle says. We then moved over to the Aldamas for the week of Christmas!
(Still with me??) We celebrated our little Noelle's 3rd birthday at Chuck "E" Cheese's with all of the family and the Gleasons. (I didn't know it would be so fun!) Noelle's real birthday is Christmas Eve and we partied at my parent's with both sides of our family. Noelle enjoyed opening her presents and her princess cake. She is absolutely in love with her cousins Lucia and Marco and loved sharing her birthday gifts with them! This was followed by a very low key, relaxing Christmas day. We were so glad to go home for the holidays and to get "grandparent and cousin" time in. Not to mention all of the aunties and uncles. Callie and Brian also made a long treck to be there. After a quick 2 weeks, Dan drove home and I flew again with the kids. Since coming home, it has been crazy, trying to unpack and make room for all of the new toys! (Not to mention tree-take down, etc.) We are finally feeling settled.
We spent New Years Eve sledding with Johnny, Amanda, Josh and kids-topped off with a pizza/guitar hero night. (Thanks Amanda!) Noelle entered her first day of primary on Sunday and did really well. She keeps saying, "I turned 3 and am a big girl now!) I can't believe I have a sunbeam. She has had a really tough time going to nursery- so we were really proud of her for attending her class. We are now enjoying having Dan home this week, though the kids have been sick and the weather is terrible. We've hardly left the house- it is so cold and snowy. Nonetheless, it is good to be home and to finally get back to routine. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas this year too! I'm so glad to be home and back on the blog!
