Happy 3rd Birthday Sweet Jonas


I guess we are always shocked by how time flies. It seems that yesterday we were going to the hospital ready to have us our first baby, not knowing what he/she was. I love the emotion that builds in your delivery room of the anticipation to find out what you are having. It's indescribable, but we were very ready. We were ecstatic to see it was a BOY, which is what we both had thought. We were not ready to discover that Jonas was not breathing well or that he would be hospitalized during his very first Christmas. He didn't know any difference, but Jason and I did as we stayed by his side the entire 7 days praying to take home a healthy baby boy. We did just that on December 29, with his very own PICC line and home health nurse. We survived just fine, and so did he!!!!

Another bump in the road was to discover Jonas was saying minimal words at the age of 1 and then 1.5 yrs. We assertively had him tested to discover he was speech delayed and started therapy after his 2nd birthday. You should hear our boy talk now!!!!! We are sooooo proud of him. He has started saying anything and everything. You might not understand everything he says, but he for sure TALKS all the time. He recently started saying sentences and yelling at Reese, "Me want it!!" Or when he puts together a series of legos to run to us and say, "Me did it!!!!" and to be so proud of himself. We laugh when he says,"Remember, mommy" to remind us of something we did not long ago.

Jonas, I really can't believe you are 3. We love you very much and love that you are our son. We love that God created you uniquely and that you belong to us here on earth. We love your sweet spirit and inquisitive mind. Even though pulling wipes out of the wipe container drives me nuts, it is something you enjoy and I find it acceptable at times. Your new addiction of slamming doors or wanting to hear the ABC song can hit the wrong nerve, but I am getting used to it because I know it makes you happy. I love when you say, "Play games, Reese" to include your sister. She loves you and when you are at Su-Su's house, she constantly asks about you. I love how you adapted so quickly to your big boy bed and how proud it makes you to sleep in it. I love how you are starting to recognize your friends and ask about them by name. I love how you hug Reese and give her kisses. I love when you run around the house begging to be chased and getting such a thrill out of being somewhat "scared" when we run after you. I love your gum addiction as you and Reese call gum, "mug". I love that you enjoy painting and let me create hand/foot print art and just sit there amazed at how it looks. I love how when we are at a restaurant and your daddy gets up from the table and you yell out (loudly), "Hey Daddy!!!" and then it echos across the whole place.... and of course Reese chimes in yelling the same thing. And let me remind you.... it is never Hey Mommy!
