Happy Saturday

Maggie and I started our day off with a trip to the vet, and now we're snuggled up back at home hiding out from a ton of rain. Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Send Help

Please send help because I seem to have awoken a beast. We finally finished our Chocolate Mint Chip ice cream this weekend, and when I was cleaning out the storage container on Sunday DH made the decision that we just had to make strawberry ice cream this week. So on our trip to whole foods for this week's groceries we got all the ingredients. And in about 2.5 hours we had turned this:

Into this:

When I'm complaining about my weight gain tomorrow, please feel free to remind me that homemade strawberry ice cream does not contribute to a well balanced diet ;-)

The small things

Sometimes you need to look around and appreciate the little things. I have been super stressed with all this work stuff (the contractor has decided to come back to the table, which means long days for me), but I am trying to remind myself that I need to stop every now and then to appreciate the little things going well in my life.

1st: Morning Walks. Every morning I wake up and take a 30-45 minute walk with Maggie. She LOVES to walk. And I love getting the exercise.

2nd: Fresh Flowers. Particularly those from Whole Foods. These flowers make my living room smell wonderful, and look beautiful.

3rd: Clothes that fit. I recently bought some more maternity clothes. It is so wonderful to have clothes that don't make me feel like a stuffed sausage. Although its pretty funny because they definitely make me look  much more pregnant that my regular clothes do.

From the back of the cabinet

Now that I am getting ready to register for baby stuff, I've been thinking a lot about what I registered for during my wedding. It's so funny how much I stressed out about making sure I had all the right things on my registry, and how four years later my priorities would have been totally different. A good example of this is our ice cream maker. I mean seriously, do we need one of these... no. And I can honestly say we've used it a total of 2 times in the last 4 years. But no matter how much I know that it is probably just taking up space in our cabinet, I can't bring myself to throw it out.

So last night, from the back of the cabinet, I dug out the ice cream maker. I figured pregnancy was as good of an excuse as any to indulge in some home made goodness. I was at Whole Foods before I made the executive decision to make ice cream, so I quickly had to google a recipe on my iPhone. This recipe for Chocolate Mint Ice Cream caught my eye. It was really easy to thrown together, and total prep time was probably less than 3 minutes. I poured the ingredients in the machine, and in about 25 minutes I had a full batch of fresh ice cream!! I'm happy to report that it was delicious. The ice cream maker has returned to its rightful spot in the back of the cabinet, but I may use it a little more often.

Did you register for anything which you now realize you never use??

A miracle

Its amazing to me that I made it 28 years without ever knowing about the miracle that is prune juice. As someone who has suffered with irregularity for years, I really wish someone had told me about the effects of this juice earlier! But the good news is I've discovered it now, and every night before bed I have about half a glass. Its not the best tasting stuff but it certainly does the trick! For anyone who is going to attempt to incorporate this into your routine, might I recommend you only fill your cup 1/2 way. Too much can have dire consequences. Take it from me :-)

Disappointment

I'll be honest, I don't fail very often. I learned at an early age that if I really wanted something, and I was willing to put in the time, I could probably achieve it. This is one of the things that made my battle with infertility so hard for me to cope with. It was something that no matter how hard I tried, there was nothing I could do to make myself get pregnant.

Today I was dealt my first big professional failure. Me and a team of engineers have been working for months to prepare a big negotiations. There was a lot of pressure for the negotiations to be a successful as the project is very high profile. After 10 long and intense days of negotiations, we made the contractor an offer last friday. We gave the contractor a week to accept or reject our offer. Well this afternoon we got the official response...Rejection. I knew it was coming as the negotiations had not gone smoothly, never the less it was a BIG disappointment. Sigh.

Normal Pregnant Lady

So I had my doctor's appointment yesterday. I guess I am officially a normal pregnant lady. The appointment was short and sweet, and most importantly didn't involve a meeting with the dildocam. I ask the doctor all my questions and then we listened to the heartbeat for a few minutes. He was able to find it so quickly that it I decided I'd try again to find it on my home doppler! Since DH wasn't able to come to my doctors appointment, I waited for him to get home before i tried. It only took about 2 minutes to find the heartbeat since I knew where to look this time. We listened for a few minutes. My husband was grinning from ear to ear. It was so cute. Then we videoed it to share it with our family. Everyone was so excited!

Coming up for air

Just briefly though. I mentioned in my previous post that I was going to have a big distraction thanks to work, and boy have I! I have been working roughly 7am-7pm since last Tuesday. Although I am totally exhausted, we're making some great progress on a huge negotiations I am involved in for work. Hopefully by next week, negotiations will wrap up and I will be able to resume my regular blogging and blog commenting! Miss you all!!

PS. My appointment is tomorrow afternoon (Finally!). I will report back as soon as I can!
