the snow

OH the SNOW! I had mixed feelings about the snow. When I seperate myself from the equation I loved the snow. The kids had such a great time sledding with the neighbors, scheming away at the snow strategy for the day, drinking hot cocoa, waking up each morning to more snow! So much fun for them, it brought back memories of snow days when I was a kids- many fun childhood memories. I truly am happy the kids got to enjoy something that is rare around here- they had so. much. fun!

But I have to say that it took some extra mind prep to make it through the week. I mean, getting 5 kids and 1 adult ready for the snow- I think it's like 7 items of clothing each x6= 42 items of clothes! Man, it took time to get dressed and then to deal with the aftermath.

The other hard part was the whole homeschooling bit. We had just started getting in a routine after almost a month off in December, and bam, a week of no school. I just started feeling like teaching Lucy in the formal sense was more of a theory.

Those things said, would I take the snow back? Absolutely not! The joy I saw in their little faces was worth it! Henry! You should have seen Henry! He was sooooo happy flopping in the snow, lying in the snow, eating the snow! The beauty of it, the neighborhood dads taking turns taking the kids sledding, the quiet of the roads, it was really a wonderful time! Not leaving the house for 5 straight days was hard, not homeschooling was hard, but I'm appreciating the routine all the more now because of it.  And anyway, life's not all about me is it now?   I hope that I can more and more just delight in the joy of my children and others, and looking at the pictures of my kiddos in the snow helps get me there.
