Our Snow Day

We ended up getting about 6 inches of snow. Church was cancelled, so we slept in a little and played in the snow. We made our very first snowman! Jonathan took over and got very serious about our snowman....great job, Dad! We love you! Poor Aaron has the flu, so he only saw the snow through the car window on the way to the doctor. Mariana enjoyed the view from inside the warm house.

My little snow angels.....perfect for a Sunday morning!

We were in Tennessee visiting Jonathan's sister when the snow started to fall. We decided to try to make it home. It was a very scary drive home. If the south has ever had a blizzard this was it! We had to stop and knock off snow so we could keep driving. The conditions seemed to get better as we got closer to home.....thank goodness!

Happy Birthday Princess Lydia

My baby turned 3 February 3rd!! I can't believe it! She is growing up so fast. She got it in her mind she wanted to be a princess, but she would not become one until her birthday. So.....we worked very hard getting ready for her "coming out" party. That morning she ate from her princess plate, then later in the day our neighbor and friend brought Lydia a present and of course it was an original princess dress that she designed. Lydia was so excited she said "I'm a princess!" We had a small family party for her with Princess cake and ice cream. She is now stocked with plenty of princess dresses and accessories! We love our little princess!

Ice Storm 2009

What a week we have had! Last Monday we were expected to get freezing rain and we did. It continued until Wednesday morning. It amounted to 1 1/2 inches of ice on trees and power lines. Tuesday night was a nightmare; I heard breaking tree all night. There was about 7-10 uprooted trees in our immediate area, and when they fell the garage rattled. I don't think I slept any that night. I say all this, but we were very fortunate. Lots of people around us had trees on their homes and their yards totally destroyed. As well as no electricity or water. We were without power for 5 days, and I felt guilty when our power came back. The kids have been out of school for a week, but will go back tomorrow. I have to say it has been a good experience for our family. I saw my children become selfless, play board games, read books by firelight and go to bed with the sun and wake up with the sun. We tested our family emergency skills and our food storage. We learned what we need to work on and were proud of the things we were prepared for. We have lots or opportunities for service projects now!

This is our front yard, and as you can see we were very fortunate.

I gave Lydia her first haircut! She will be 3 in a few weeks and it was just getting unmanageable. She looks so much older! Man, what a few inches will do!

Basketball Season

Aaron is on the fifth grade traveling team. He enjoys trying his hand at all sports right now. We will see what he decides to focus on as he get older. We have games until the end of February. He's really enjoying basketball and learning techniques.

Mariana is warming up for her game. She's enjoyed her season so far even though they haven't won many games. I think she enjoys being with friends more than anything. Although, she has realized she doesn't like basketball as much as she thought she would. I'm glad she's part of a team though.

Christmas with the Family

At Jonathan's parents there is a tradition that we play lots of games anytime we get together. Among the games is the very intense RISK game. Many times, players may come to blows over this battle of whits. Okay maybe not blows but there is an air of intensity...just look at their faces. Brody and Aaron just recently found themselves worthy of playing the game (or old enough).

Of course us women are more mature and play with love.....really we are too busy playing and stuffing our faces with all the goodies! We love to play Scrabble and Quiddler.

Got a pic of the oldest and the youngest of the family...oh and plus Dad. Can you guess which one is the oldest?? Ha!

Benjamin opening a present at my Dad's. Isn't that a perfect gift opening picture!

My mom and all her grandkids

Merry Christmas

This is Aaron and Ben playing their Wii......oh wait.....that's Dad. I forgot I never got a picture of the boys because Dad was making sure it worked okay for what SIX HOURS!!!! (Just kidding.....kinda)

Mariana finally got an Ipod from Santa!! Since I like it too, it will be a GREAT punishment tool!
All Lydia wanted for Christmas was a wagon. Here's video of her and Ben......
