Missed it again...

When I got back home from a quick shopping trip last night, I found my 2 oldest boys laughing and encouraging the youngest to," do it again!" Come to find out, Colin had rolled over from his belly to his back and they were trying to get him to do it again. Would he? No way! I thought it was going to be a long while before he did that since he still pretty much hates being on his belly.

A few weeks ago I was helping Alex on the computer and heard Colin fussing on the carpet in front of the couch. When I went to check on him, I found him on his belly and I had put him on his back. Would he do it again? Nope! Since I'm the one who updates the baby book, it isn't going in until I see it with my own eyes!

Oh well, in other news... Colin is getting over his first cold. I took a break from "solid" feeding last week since it hadn't been going all that well anyway. I was lucky if he actually swallowed a baby spoonful out of the half dozen I tried to spoon in. He absolutely hated the rice cereal so we had bought a few bananas which he ate a little better, but still wasn't getting the hang of it. When I tried it again last Friday, he pretty much woofed down the bananas (mixed with a bit of rice cereal). He had had bananas a few days in a row before so I tried sweet potatoes on Sat. and he enjoyed those too.

I have decided to pretty much nix buying jars of baby food and make my own as much as possible. Thanks to http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/ and a book a friend is letting me borrow, we think this is the cheaper and healthier way to go. When bananas are 39 cents a pound and 1 jar of banana baby food is at least 45 cents, it wasn't rocket science to figure out the way to go. We bought some small Gladware containers for food like the sweet potato that can be frozen until I need it. The book was bought in Europe so it will be an adventure trying courgettes and leeks for a few "feeds" later on (after I spend some time on Wikipedia trying to figure out what the heck they are).
Colin has also been trying to reach for toys a lot lately and has enjoyed his Step and Play piano. But his favorite toy is still his big brother. Yesterday was a "No TV" Sunday so Alex had wanted to play with his annoying fishing game where he uses a little fishing pole to catch fish as they open and close their mouths. Anyway, Alex had a lot of fun fishing for Colin's binky right out of his mouth. Then while it was still on the hook, Fishy Colin had fun trying to get it back into his mouth. It was priceless!

The day I've been waiting for all summer...

I have made numerous attempts through the window screen to get some great pics of our hummingbird family. All summer they have made frequent visits to the feeders but they haven't stuck around long enough for me to go out on the porch to get a pic without the screen in the way. Well, the other day, undaunted by the rain, the momma and her two female babies were chasing each other all over the back yard. Each took turns perching on a branch right off the porch and ate nonstop all day. So, dodging the raindrops to protect the precious "new" camera, I finally struck it rich and got some wonderful pictures. Of course, you aren't going to be as excited about them as I am but this is my blog and I can torture you with whatever I want :) Enjoy!

My next project... the gorgeous cardinal family who we wake up to singing every morning!

Time to Go Private!

Well, Amy and I have been talking about this for a while and something occurred that gave us a hint we better go private.

As you some of you know we have a site recorder, meaning whoever visits our site we can see where you are from, what size resolution you have on your monitor, which browser you are using and then what IP address. That is just the beginning. Well, unfortunately, for the past week we have had a hit from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. We don't know anyone from there and it kept coming from a friend of ours site.

This means that person would click there first and then move on to ours. The problem is our friend doesn't know anyone from there.

I know this may inconvenience those 1,000 people that read our blog. NOT! HA! It is time to go private for the safety of my family, we are going "underground". This will take place on Monday, Aug. 20.

Please don't hesitate to email us to join in if you so desire.

Thanks,
Chris & Amy

4 months

Here are a few pics I took of Colin this week. He sure is getting big. We've tried the cereal thing a few times just for fun. It's a good thing he doesn't need to get any nutrients from it just yet! He's still a pretty good baby but definitely different in many ways from Alex. He loves trying to sit up and has rolled up on his side a few times too. He's going to need to be tough because Alex is more than ready to wrestle. He gets frequent reminders about being gentle.

Another tooth!

Stuck my finger in Colin's mouth this morning since he's been drooling constantly and going through 3-4 outfits every day from spit... and discovered he cut his second tooth last night! He also had his second round of shots and 4 month Dr. apt. today.

Length - 24 7/8 inches
Weight - 13 pounds 14 ounces

Both of which put him around the 50th percentile.

Just out of curiosity...I got out Alex's measurements. We didn't have a 4 month visit for some reason but at his 3 month visit he was already over 16 pounds and was longer at his 2 month visit than Colin is now.

We thought Alex was going to have to have a lead test for MA and WIC but Dr. Kesler confirmed that it wasn't really necessary since we've lived in a "newer" appt. for over a year and won't disqualify him for anything. That is an answer to prayer since Chris and I were both DREADING the torture of trying to hold him down for a blood draw. It wouldn't have been pretty.

Colin has been okayed to try some cereal so we'll see how that goes soon. All in all, we're very thankful for 2 very healthy boys. I'll try to take his 4 month pic soon and get it posted. In the meantime, check out the Flickr site for pics of our family vacation in MI. I'm not done putting them on so you can check back frequently. Also, make sure to flip through a few pages since I took over 200 pics throughout the trip. No, I won't be posting them all but there are quite a few.

How to Coo Your Woman

I hope you enjoy my first go at making an actual movie! Have fun!

My new friend, Alayna

My new friend, originally uploaded by kittykommittee.

Colin had a wonderful time meeting new friends in MI last week. He especially enjoyed meeting Alayna who is 5 days older than he is. Ok, so I enjoyed it more since her mom, Tammy, and I were able to share the joys and frustrations of being pregnant at the same time. We had a great time with the little ones and got a really cute video clip of the Colin flirting with Alayna. I'll try to have Chris post it soon.

There are a couple pages of new pics on Flickr of all the people Colin met on vacation so be sure to check them out. Speaking of the little guy....he isn't 4 months old yet, and cut his first tooth this week .. OUCH!!!!! Any advice on how to stop the biting would be very appreciated.

Waiting for His glory...

I'm way behind on my Today in the Word devotions and this was part of July 24ths devotion. As usual it was a good kick in the rear. Things are still pretty stressful around here. Vacation last week was nice and it's good to be home, but being home also meant getting hit with a bunch of problems, that any other time would not have been an issue.

For instance, I ruined some clothes with a red shirt (that had been washed a million times before). I put Chris' bird bath and hummingbird feeders in the dishwasher and melted them into abstract art forms. I didn't pump much last week because Colin was finally nursing well... only to come back to low milk supply and a TOOTH to chew on Mommy with Weds.

Anyway, after a near meltdown this week, God very nicely put everything back into perspective with his Word this morning.

1 Peter 4:12-13

12Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. 13But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.

No, our situation hasn't changed, but I have 2 beautiful boys and a husband who loves me. And more importantly, a God who knows how much I can handle and the glory beyond my wildest dreams that I have to hold onto in the midst of this dark valley. Please keep praying!
