Calista decided she wanted to take the next step in soccer. She moved up from city league to rec league. We signed her up for North Utah County Soccer (NUCS). Just like city league they don’t have try outs, but unlike city league she will keep this team for a year and have a Fall and Spring season with the same team and coach. Calista’s goal this year is to learn more and become a better player so that next year she can try out for Arsenal club soccer.
Calista’s coach had all the girls pick a number and the name they wanted for the backs of their jerseys. She was the only one to choose her last name for the back, which I think is weird.
Here’s the whole team showing off their new jersey’s at the first game.
They are a fun bunch of girls.
Last year in city league Calista’s coach played her mostly as a midfielder. This year her new coach puts her in as forward and she has blossomed as a player. She is now given the opportunity to use her foot skills a little more and she is making moves and trying out new things. You can tell when she’s out on the field that she just loves to play. Scoring goals is just an added bonus for her.

Mark took the two older girls up to the Timpooneke trail. They didn’t intend to climb up to Timp peak, but to give the girls a chance to experience the trail. The goal was to make it to Scout Falls, which is a few miles up the trail. Here are the girls at the trailhead.
There was some slight drizzle now and then on the way up.
The girls had fun taking in the fall colors.
Once the rain picked up, the ponchos came out.
Each time they came across a big rock, it was time for a break.
Here are the three intrepid hikers.
Most of the mountain was obscured by clouds.
And here they are once they reached the falls. They were very excited to make it this far.
Here are the girls beneath the falls. During the spring months, there is a lot of water that would normally be cascading over where they’re walking. Since it was dry, they were able to explore the falls area. After some exploring, it was time to head back. On the way back, the clouds opened up and it started pouring. All three got soaked as they quickly descended the trail in the torrential downpour. It was a short hike, but a fun one and new experience for the older girls.
We always look forward to September because we know Nu Skin will have their employee summer party at Lagoon. Unfortunately, Nu Skin decided to send Mark to China the same week.
Piper loves the swings. Calista and Téa chose to sit this ride out.
I had my mom come up to help out while Mark was gone so she was the lucky one to use Mark’s ticket for the park. It was like Disneyland all over again, just a much, much smaller scale. Nonna still loves swings!
Our van decided to throw up a whole lot of antifreeze on the way home from Calista’s soccer game just a few days after our Lagoon trip. It left me stranded up near Highland. Funny thing was that I was actually on the phone to Mark when it happened. He was just about to board his plane from Los Angeles to Salt Lake and we were giving him the rundown of Calista’s soccer game. Thankfully, we had some leftover apple slices and Gatorade from the soccer game to keep Calista and Piper occupied until Nonna could come pick them up.
AAA sent me a tow truck and it turns out this particular tow truck driver was super awesome. He took a look at the engine and found that the hose to the radiator came off, hence all the spewing of antifreeze and all the steam spewing from my engine. He was able to get the hose and clamp back on and sent me on my way. I’m so grateful I didn’t have to get the van towed and spend hundreds of dollars on it. Just another moment in my life where I was very aware of the tender mercy from above.
