The Green Tradition Lives On!
Some traditions are so memorable that they just have to be repeated. I can remember my mom dying a variety of foods green for St. Patrick's day as I was growing up (somehow you just don't forget green milk!) She also introduced me to the traditional Irish dish, corned beef and cabbage. Apparently those vivid meals made quite an impact on me, because ever since Aaron and I were married I have tried to do something to honor this colorful custom! As newlyweds at BYU we feasted on green meatloaf and mashed potatoes, and over the years have had our share of green vegetables, perfected the art of green jello, and devored an array of delicious green desserts! This year I baked green dinner rolls to go along with our emerald banquet of peas, cabbage salad, corned beef, potatoes, green jello, and green-frosted mint brownies. I even baked a loaf of green bread with the leftover dough from the rolls...when the girls opened their lunch boxes at school the next day and discovered their unusually vibrant sandwiches, their friends were green with envy!
