Special Week

This past week was pretty special. On Tuesday, January 25, it was the 1 year anniversary of meeting our sweet daughter Nina. Back then, she was a quiet, calm and shy 9.5 month old baby. Today, this girl is babbling like crazy, laughing all the time at Diego's silly faces, getting excited when she sees her daddy and is just full of life! She is totally crazy about her potato heads, hats and helmets, and buckling and unbuckling things!

Then on Friday, January 28, it was 3 years since we met Diego for the very first time. Remember that Diego is from the Moscow Region and we flew to Russia without having a picture or any info about him. He was so little, so shy, and with some powerful, however sad, eyes. Our journey together as a family was not always easy, and we had to work very hard on gaining his trust and helping him attach to us, but now I could not imagine my life without him. He is the friendliest, silliest and cutest boy to me and now his eyes are full of joy!

Cheers to my children and thanks to God for making them such an important part of my life!

New Year New Post, Right?

Life is still quite "interesting" here and I have ended up neglecting my dear blog... Oh well... But as a new year goal I want to get back to write here... So, to start blogging again let's do an easy one, right? A picture post!

I think Diego and Nina are finally getting to really enjoy each other. Nina copies everything he does and just adores Diego! Here you have them painting, posing for mommy, reading, playing with Nina's baby, and with pay food.

Has it been that long?

Wow, more than two months since my last post! At least this time I have some pretty good reasons for my disappearance... A little bit more than a month ago a huge "curve ball" was thrown to our family and it took me several weeks to recover... Not going into details I will just say that never before I felt we were facing such an enormous challenge ahead of us. On the bright side, these past weeks have been full of opportunities to learn more about myself, find where my heart is, refocus on my faith and appreciate my family and friend's support and love.

August was also tough because we had to postpone our trip to Ecuador and since it was a last minute change, I didn't have too many options for cool things to do with the kiddos. So we kept going to the water park, mall and the library over and over again every week! But some cool things happened such as:

* My dad visited for almost 3 weeks and spent some awesome time with Diego and Nina

* Nina learned to walk almost 2 weeks ago

* Mark and I decided to start going to church again and leave the kids at the church daycare - and you know what, Diego loves it and Nina has done pretty well!! Hurray! After more than two years of absence, it is awesome to be back at church every Sunday!

* We hired a babysitter couple of times and both kiddos (and parents) survived the experience. The plan is to continue using a babysitter here and there so Mark and I can get some time together.

*During June and July Diego was in swim school and he LOOOOOOOOVED it! He learned tons and it was truly amazing seeing him so happy in the water. At the end of the classes he even got a picture with AZ born Misty Hyman and her gold medal from Sydney 2000. Isn't it cool?!?

* As a part of Mark's company events we went bowling and Diego had a blast! We just stayed for a bit, but we are looking forward to doing it again!

* Diego finally likes ice cream (used to say it was too cold for his teeth!), so now every other Sunday we go out to the "the ice cream place", as Diego calls it. We can only pick from the fruity flavors since at this place these are not made with milk/cream, and so far Diego and Nina don't seem to care at all! Diego always ask for banana ice cream and Nina has had mango, pineapple and forest berry ice creams.

* Last week we got a new doggy; he is a 4-year old mini pincher/chihuahua mix and we named him Mojo! We were at the pet store for heart guard check and medicine for our 7-year old dog Lulu, but once I saw the other little dogs for adoption my heart melted as well as Diego's. Mojo is just adorable, kind with the kids and patience with Lulu and Diego is just crazy about HIS doggy!

* Diego finally started school last Thursday. This year he will attend this preschool 5 days/week, from 9 to 11:30 am. The original plan was to go from 2 days (last year) to 3 days/week, but since he is still adjusting/struggling with having a little sister, we decided that being a school with his buddies without having to "fight" for attention would be better for him... So far he has had no separation anxiety at drop off and has been a happy camper when going home.!

We are also trying a new method to get rid of the food allergies/sensitivities our kiddos have and to strength their immune system, it is called N A E T. So far the specialist worked on "blockages" of their brain/body balance and did a "treatment" for egg sensitivity. We are taking both Diego and Nina every other week, and we only pay half price for Nina as a sibling! And in general, we can not complain this year since they hardly get sick, Diego keeps growing and weights 33 lbs (yes, he is slim, but is all muscle!) and Nina weights 23 lbs (she has gained 4 lbs in her 4 months at home!).

And now, some pictures! Enjoy!

What is Nina up to?

And now is Nina's turn.. Nina keeps being a pretty easy-going, happy baby! She has been teething for a while and has 3 molars and 3 teeth that just cut through the gums! Last week she woke up 5 nights in a row at 4 am, but now she is sleeping better. After standing by herself for a while last week she started banging the gate of the playing area and got crazy when our dog walked by. So, Mark opened the gate, held her hands and she took off trying to chase our dog! Since then she wants her daily walking sessions. She is 14 months, so I guess it's ok... My only issues is that after "walking" for a little while she wants NOTHING to do in my arms and pushes away big time... well, we just need to find some balance...

She continue babbling and has learned the signs for more (usually for food) and book! She also knows that when she does something good I say "Muy bien" (like good job) and she starts clapping! Pretty cool, right?

In couple of weeks she will have her appointment with the pediatric cardiologist and hopefully everything will be OK... July will be the month for all the medical and dentist (Diego lost the filling of his chip tooth!) appointments and then by the end of July we are planning to go to Ecuador for a month!

Yeah, I can stand and play with my favorite toy: Elmo tool bench
Ready for the Soccer World Cup!
Read me a book, please?
Hum, I am hungry!
Help me walking, daddy?
Now you, mommy?
Just happy!

What is Diego up to?

I wrote a post about Diego, but never finished. So, now I decided to just share bunch of pictures of what Diego has been doing in the last few weeks...

In order to accommodate Nina's morning nap we have to hang out at home quite a bit... Luckily, I have found few projects here and there for Diego and he is keeping a bit busy - and I get to do few things here and there while he is occupied!

Some tonge-concentration here!
Yeah, I finished it!
Let's try my hand, ok?
Yes, my hair is COOL!
Presents for his daddy on Father's Day
After some gluing, the best part is getting rid of the glue from your fingers, right?
playing after building two airplanes
now into painting one airplaine
yummy Popsicle! (after 2 years Diego finally likes icecream and Popsicle!)

We still have some trying days, but with some attitude change from my part and maybe some little more listening from Diego's I am feeling more positive about getting over this big brother/two children adjustment time... I need to remember that Diego is only 3 years old, that there is a reason for the TRYING THREE'S, and that I need to appreciate him for who he is and not try to change him.
