Estes for a day

I guess by now it's obvious that we love Estes Park. LOVE it. It's a place that is pretty dear to Matt and I, and it is so close, why not take advantage of it as much as we can? A few saturdays ago we spent the afternoon up there, and we took the kids paddle boating on the lake. They LOVED it. I had Reagan and Tyler, and Matt took Jordyn and Jacob.

Tyler kept saying "Look at the view! Take a picture mom!" so I did. :)

After paddle boating we went to our favorite mini golf place. Jacob took this very seriously. The kids are big fans of mini golf.

Jacob got mad about something, and I had to capture his cute pout. ha.

Then we drove into RMNP. Matt took our travel grill, and we had some steak kabobs, and we grilled by the river. We found a gorgeous spot by Sprague Lake.

Jordyn put together our grilled pinapple skewers. Delish!

Being out in nature is so good for our souls. And our family.

Oops, an out of order selfie from Matt's paddle boat. :)

Our family picture from Sprague Lake. One of my favorite pictures of all time, ever. We had so much fun, and came home rejuvenated and happy.

Glenwood Springs

Back in April for spring break, we went up to Glenwood Springs for a few nights to get a fun break. We drove up Friday after Matt got off work, and stopped in Frisco, purely for the cool hotel.  We found a room with 3 queen beds! I swear I had a picture of it on this post, but now that I'm writing it, I don't see it. Oh well.

It was Jacob's first time in a hotel (that he remembers) and he loved it. He thought the phone with all the cords was just about the coolest thing ever. We had to unplug it from the wall since he would not stop playing with it. He kept just picking it up and talking to anyone and everyone. It was the cutest thing!

We hit up our favorite pizza place, Russo's Pizza. If you ever drive through, you've gotta try it. Yum!

Then we braved the rain and wind and went up to Glenwood Adventure Park. You have to take a tram up there, and that was terrifying. Terrifying! Ok, it was just me that was terrified. :) The kids kept walking around and looking everywhere, and it was all I could do to not panic. Ha! I kept begging them to just sit down, but then they thought it was funny that I was freaking out so bad. They're just so funny. It rained a little on the way up, and was slightly windy, but we made it finally in one piece.

Jacob found these hats in the gift shop, and he loved it so much I would have bought him one if they weren't $30. sheesh.

Tyler on the giant rocking chair.

So since it was raining, we decided to head to the cave tour first. This was also terrifying. It was just a day of facing all my fears, apparently. :) I hate confined spaces, and spaces that are also underground and I'm trapped by a shut door...just about the worst.

It was really cool, I do have to admit. The tour guide lady was absolutely hilarious! She made the whole thing worth it. You can tell she's spent a lot of time underground in the cave. haha!

At one point, you go down all these stairs, and there's a little room that you go in, and they shut a garage door behind you. So we were even more trapped. I almost hyperventilated. They turned off the lights at one point to make it completely dark, you couldn't even see your hand in front of your face. I was hoping one of the kids would start screaming or something, so she'd turn the lights back on. But NO. They all just loved it and were cool as cucumbers.

When we came out of the caves it had stopped raining. But was still cold and wet. It started raining again soon thereafter. The nice thing about the rain was that most people had left the mountian. So we had everything to ourselves! The downside was that it was wet. Jacob and I went down the alpine slide and were just soaked afterwards. You can see all the water on Jacob's face. I felt so bad! But we really did have a good time.

We just went down over and over again. There was no line, it was so awesome! Even after some of us were done, Jordyn just kept going. We all probably went at least 15 times each. At one point we saw a bunch of deer next to the track. It was so fun.

This is the view from the top of the mountain and the alpine slide.

Then we mixed in the zip line. Holy cow. Jordyn was sooo excited to do the zip line, she'd been talking about it all weekend long.  But then she got a little nervous, understandably. Tyler and Matt braved it first, and said it was awesome.

Reagan was Matt's designated picture taker, since she refused to go on. Which was fine with me.

Finally Jordyn decided to go. She was so nervous. She hid on the way out, but on the way back....

She was thrilled! She was so excited and bouncing up and down. She loved it!

I did it too, but I don't have pictures of me on it. I went with Tyler. It. was. awful. They pull you backwards really fast, and I kept thinking I was just going to fall right out of the chair. Luckily we all survived.

Here's a picture I took facing behind us as we went up the end of the alpine slide. After the course is over, they pull you up a reallllllly long hill. It took a long time. At one point Tyler said he was napping on the way back up! ha!

We also hit the hot springs, but I didn't get any pictures of us while we were there. I took this later, showing the area we were.

It was so much fun. Seriously, if you're looking for a family friendly place to take a vacation, Glendwood Springs is your place. The kids are dying to go back! I'm sure we'll be back soon.

3rd grade concert

Goodness, I'm still trying to get caught up from the end of school year stuff. Soon, hopefully...

A few weeks ago, the 3rd graders from Tyler's school had their big showcase. So, in my previous post, I talked about Jordyn's choir and her music teacher. Jordyn's music teacher is so calm, very poised and professional. She keeps things calm and under control.

Tyler's music teacher? Complete opposite. COMPLETE. (I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it just makes me laugh). His music teacher is wild and crazy and loud. She takes the kids outside and blasts music and plays games, sometimes is so loud that people who live by the school call and complain. Ha! She has big hair that's out of control, always wears bright blue eye shadow, and can I just say that the kids just LOVE her?! She is a favorite teacher by all the kids. So she set up the 3rd grade concert, and it was quite the show.

She had them all wear dark clothes, and have glow sticks or something that glowed. We went over to the high school auditorium for the big performance.

They sang crazy songs that were loud and silly. :)

Tyler was right above the top left part of the teachers head. He has a black shirt on.

Then they turned off the lights and did songs with just their glow sticks. It was so fun for Tyler and the third graders, and fun for the audience too.

After they did a few songs standing on the stands, they came down and just sang and danced on the edge of the stage. It basically turned in to just a big dance party. I missed more pictures of it, but they did even come down by the seats, and danced with the audience members. Tyler danced with Jacob and Reagan in the aisles.

It was a lot of fun to watch. I laugh at the differences, and how much more.... wild... Tyler's music stuff is. But all the kids love it! So fun.
