Surrender

I have a shirt with the Habitat for Humanity logo on it and today Keian was inspecting it and said,
"Look, they are saying they surrender!  See how they have their hands above their heads.  That's how you say 'I surrender'."

Brazilian Hair

I've been wanting to have a Brazilian Blowout for a really long time so I finally did it!
And, no, it's nothing kinky - just a straightening process that will hopefully hold for many months to come.  My hair has never been so silky or smooth!

Photos in a few hours. . . .

This afternoon was nuts!  Well, today was nuts!

I went on Kade's field trip to Wagner Farms in Corrales - which turned out to be a lot of fun.  Then I picked Keian up from Trapnell's and we came home to read books and have a little nap together.  I set my alarm to get up 10 minutes before it was time to go to the bus so I sat down and quickly checked my email.  Well, there was an email from my friend, Erin, that said today was a day on the list of dates I sent her that worked for family pictures - the next one wasn't until October 30th.  So after a quick call to Scott to make sure he could meet us by 5:00 I let Erin know we were on.  We picked Kirra and Kade up from the bus and raced to Kirra's hair cut that was already scheduled.  This turned out to be a blessing because Rebecca styled Kirra's hair so cute! I had everyone's picture outfits ready, except new jeans for Kirra.

After Kirra's haircut we sped to Kohl's, ran in (literally) straight back to the girls section, grabbed three pairs of jeans that were the color I wanted and we hit the dressing room.  The first pair was adorable, fit well, we bought them and then we were running out to the parking lot.

At home Kirra was a huge help in finding all the things on the list we had made in the car to bring with us.  We were ripping tags off clothes, finding socks and pretty much going crazy.  When we do pictures in the fall we also get pictures in our Halloween costumes.  Thank goodness they were all out of their packages and hung up nicely.  We piled them all in a suitcase, along with changes of shoes and blankets to use when we needed to change.  After I got myself ready we were out the door!

We drove down to the Alameda bridge and arrived just a little before Erin.  When Erin did arrive, Scott hadn't gotten there yet so I left his clothes to change into the in car and we went to start getting pictures of the kids.  Scott said when he pulled into the parking lot, got out of his car and climbed into the van and starting changing his clothes there was a guy that looked like he was ready to call the cops! :)

The pictures went great, the fall colors were amazing and it was a gorgeous evening!  It was a crazy dusty mess changing our clothes out there, but we were able to get into our costumes and get some fun shots.  After our pictures we changed back into our regular clothes (its just a little to early in October to walk into a restaurant in full costumes).  We had promised the kids if they were good for pictures we'd have dinner at Wendy's and get frosty's.

Whew!  Glad that's over!  I've actually decided it was really stressful for a few hours, but much nicer than stressing about pictures for weeks.  This way I knew what the weather was like, I knew that my kids didn't have scraps or bruises on their faces and that we were all healthy.  Perfect!

Kade's 1st Lost Tooth!

The first tooth lost is a big deal and for Kade it was no exception.  He had been playing with it for weeks and I knew it was coming out soon so I got a few pictures before he went to bed that night of my boy with all his baby teeth.  Good thing - because after he'd been in his bed for a little while he and Keian came running out with the first lost tooth in hand!

It was definitely read to come out!
Brotherly Love

 Hooray!
Stopping the blood with a tissue.

Part of the root still intact.

 More LOVE!

 And just plain craziness.
Now, of course, Keian is wondering when his teeth will start to fall out.
After we got Kade back in bed and the boys settled down Kade called me back into his room and he was almost in tears.  "I'm afraid of the tooth fairy."  I laid by him for awhile to help him fall asleep, but around midnight we heard the slapping of his feet running on the tile as he came and jumped into our bed. . . .totally frightened the tooth fairy was coming!

Skippyjon Jones

On Friday Kade came home with an adorable backpack with Skippyjon Jones on the outside and Skippyjon Jones books and a Skippyjon Jones toy on the inside - he was thrilled to be the first one to get to bring Skippyjon home and to get him for the long weekend.  We were supposed to document our adventures with Skippyjon this weekend.

Here's Skippyjon Jones getting to sleep out on the back porch on air mattresses with Kade, Kirra, Keian and Daddy.  Mommy opted for her nice bed. . . .:)

Skippyjon Jones went to the park where the kids played while Daddy played Labor Day flag football.

Skippyjon even got to go to the movies!  It was a whole 75 cents today at Movies 8!
Madagascar 3 was the movie of choice -
I just wonder if Skippyjon enjoyed it as much as the rest of the kids!
Here's the book Kade had to record his adventures in.

Kade's first real homework assignment!
I'm pretty excited about his penmanship (thanks Holly)!
Kindergarten is so much fun!

Shoulder to the Jaw

Not a flattering picture of me at all!
And this was just the beginning of the fatness that night!
Our softball season was supposed to be over weeks ago, but we were making up a make-up that got rained out.  So basically the season just wouldn't die! :)  We were up to bat first and didn't score any runs.  So bottom of the first inning a few plays in the ball is hit to the second baseman.  I run from short stop to second base getting ready for the throw and still moving because I was going to turn a double play when. . . . .slam!  The base runner chooses not to slide, not to get out of the way, but to try and use her shoulder to move me out of the way.  Shoulders and jaws do not get along when their owners are both running toward each other.  She hit me so hard I fell to the ground.  I was in instant pain and truly thought my bottom teeth had been knocked out.  I could taste blood and was starting to panic so I pulled down my lip and asked one of my teammates to make sure my teeth were still in my mouth.  She quickly looked and told me they were - but I wasn't convinced and made her look again to see if they were attached at my gums.  I was already working out scenarios in my head - like "I have a permanent retainer so at least it will hold the teeth together while I get to a dentist", etc.  Once I found out I had all my teeth I could start to get a hold of myself and sat up.  Then after some good swishes of water to rinse the blood out of my mouth I was back up at short stop....albeit not a great short-stop the rest of the game.  I was a little fraidy cat!

Over the course of the game my lip continued to swell and it wasn't until a while later that I put my tongue down lower in my lip and discovered a very nasty cut.  When I got home I got more and more concerned about that cut and ended up texting some friends to see if they were still up and could give me some advice.  Thank goodness we have doctors and dentists in our ward!  The consensus was that I didn't need stitches if my teeth didn't break the outer layer of skin.  The cut was healed up quite will in the morning, but man, during the night I did not sleep well!  My lip throbbed, my jaw felt like it was locked in a funny position and my neck muscles were so tight I kept thinking I might be getting sick because my throat was kind of hurting.  So glad I have a good chiropractor who was able to do some work on my jaw, neck, back and shoulders.  Turns out I have a little bit of whiplash.  Wow that was a crash!

I wish that is where the story ended and that I was all healed now.  The swelling is mostly gone, though some is still there - but all around the cut and up on my lip where there was also some trauma I have nasty, horrible canker sores.  Not sure if the crazy soreness will ever end! :)  I just can't wait to eat and drink like a normal person again!

First Day of 4th Grade!

August 13, 2012
Not nearly as many nerves for this nine year old as there was last year when she was starting at a new elementary school. Kirra was nervous, but also excited to see her school friends.  She got a teacher that is the mom of one of her classmates last year so she was happy.  I'm pretty sure I get more anxious about finding out who their teachers are and meeting them.

I knew we better take a bunch of pictures because we wouldn't be ready so early two days in a row! So we did some with Kade and Keian, too.

So grown up!

Just one year ago - first day of third grade!

Oh, how we LOVE this girl!  She is such a joy!

Kade's face totally cracks me up in this picture - I just had to post it!

This cute boy and his toothy grin! He's so proud of his lost tooth he's been pushy his lower jaw out when he smiles to show it off - and that's pretty much the only kind of smiles I get right now!

Not sure what Bubs was so concerned about. . .

The start of the silliness!
Tell these kids to be crazy for the camera and they aren't shy!

Kirra's crossed eyes make me laugh!

These two really are best friends!
Oh, thank goodness!  Its Brynn!  They didn't end up in the same class, but there's still the playground and any other time we can make it work.  Kirra LOVES this girl!
And yes - they are in the same grade - just multiple inches apart in height.  Brynn's birthday is in January so she's seven months older, but just a very tall, cute girl!
Kirra, Brynn & Sharlotte.
So wonderful to have good friends at school!

Kade & Ellie - these two are good buds.  They are almost a year apart in age, but play together so well and have the privilege of going to kindergarten together.

After seeing Kirra off to her classroom went up to Kade's classroom and he got to play with your friends and explore the room.  He has five kids in his class that he already knows - lucky boy! Soon the teacher sent all the with the EA, Mrs. Anderson, to tour the school.  Kade was pretty excited about the contest the P.E. teacher told him about for the class who does the best all year.  Mommy & Daddy got to learn all about how the class works and then when the tour was over Kade were ready to come home and put together the Lego Ambulance Wayne and Dede gave him for a late birthday present.  Thank goodness we had that or he would have been upset about leaving school.  On the way home from meeting his teacher he said, "My lady seems really NICE!" :)
