Diaper Change

I was changing Kade's diaper and there was a piece of lint on his hip so I picked it off. He growled and me and said, "Don't take my penis off!" Kirra died laughing and had to run into the bathroom to tell Scott about Kade's silliness.

I Know. . . .

Kirra was rolling her eyes at me because I asked her to put her clothes away and I said, "Kirra. . . "and she didn't let me finish my sentence and this is what she came back with -

"I know what you're going to say. . . .You're responsible for your own clothes."

I'm pretty sure that's something her teacher would say, not me!

Out of There?

Nana: I have to go potty
Kade: You go potty with your penis?
Nana: No, but I am going to go potty.
Kade: Your tinkle comes out through your penis?

He is quite obsessed with his penis these days . . . and his boobies too (but that's due to the fact mine are out all the time).

Prize

Scott did a big burp and Kirra said, "Well that was a prize!"

Some Kadeisms

Kade was sitting on Scott's lap after dinner one night and he was looking at his hands and said to his Daddy, "These my thumbs" and held up his thumbs. Then he held up his fingers and said, "These my skishies?"

Nana was getting a chewable papaya for Kirra and Kade said, "I need a pilgrim (meaning pill)." Then when Nana gave it to him he said, "This my pilgrim?"

Kirra's Words for Things. . .

One Sunday when Kirra's friend, Daphne, came to church with a new haircut Kirra raced up to tell me, "Daphne got fangs cut" and put her finger above her eyebrows to show me what she meant. Daphne got bangs!

We have a little thermos that Kirra takes noodles in to school for lunch and right after we started using it she told me, "I really like noodles in my furnace."

Obama vs. McCain

This morning when I was doing Kirra's hair she said to me, "I go for John McCain not Barack Obama." She has been learning about the elections in school so we'd been talking about it at home. It was the morning after the election and I told her that McCain lost and that Obama would be our next president after George Bush. She was a little perturbed and then said, "What? Our president is President Hinckley!" So then I had to explain the difference between the president of our church and the president of our country and remind her that President Hinckley has passed away and our new church president is President Monson.

Bib

We took the kids to JCPenney's to get their Halloween pictures taken today. While we were waiting for the pictures to download Kade was watching a movie and turned around and looked at my. It was the first time I had nursed Keian in public and had on my nursing cover-up. Kade said, "What that bib? What you hiding?"

Better Be Nice When She's Around

The Sunday after Keian was born was the ward primary program. Kirra and I were getting ready together in my bathroom and Nana said, "The McEntire girls will be the prettiest ones at church." Kirra got upset and said, "That's not nice to everyone else."

Ladies

Kade and I did a marthon shopping trip today - Hobby Lobby and the Mall for a total of FIVE hours and still no baby!

Kade and I were shopping in Hobby Lobby when two ladies walked by the end of our aisle. Kade said, "Hi!" and they said hello back to him then he looked at me and said with a coy little grin. . . "I say Hi to the Ladies!"

When we were in JCPenney's looking for a coat for Kirra all of the sudden Kade disappeared. The coat area was jam packed with stuff so I starting looking all around for him. Soon I heard, "I ober here" and saw Kade peeking out from behind some display shelves. He then told me, "I poopy!" He had hidden from me so he could take care of his business.

Later that day I asked Kade what we should name the baby and he said, "Bab" - I think we'll keep looking!

Kade's Orders

Kade thinks he is big and likes to let everyone know he is in charge. . .

Nana was standing on the purple stool we keep in the bathroom and Kade came along and saw her on it. "Get off Nana, it's Mine!"

I wasn't allowed to interrupt Nana and Kade while they were playing with 'unnecessary' talking to Nana. "Go oder (other) room - Go Mama! Play Nana!"

Kade likes to make his Nana do things to get her reaction. . . "I pooped - smell my buns!"

Nana and I were sitting on my bed and we were trying to decide what to eat for lunch. I looked at Kade and said, "Kade, what should Nana and Mommy eat? He said, "Um. . . .Dion's!"

My Kirra

Kade was sitting with me at the computer watching the screen saver flash pictures up on the screen and there was a picture of Kirra and Kade said, "There's my Kirra! I love her!"

Loves Playing School

Kirra must not get enough school in all day Kindergarten- she loves playing school at home, too.

The other day she was the teacher and Kade was the student and her name was 'Miss Pachonie'. I think since her teacher's name is Ms. Fioravantes and it is a little difficult to say she thinks any pretend teacher name she gives herself needs to be hard to say.

My Heart

Kade & Kirra were taking their magnesium supplement and Kade was putting his fingers in the powder and making a sour face saying, "Tasty, Tasty" and he was cracking Kirra up. She said to Nana, "He's breaking my heart to death!"

Thursday, August 14, 2008

Love My Teacher

After the second day of school Kirra was laying in bed with Nana getting ready to go to sleep and she said, "I love my teacher. . . . more than a sparkly blue fence!"

Is that a compliment?

Kade's Words

Beaber = Beaver

Smarnee = Smartie

Friday, August 8, 2008

Cotton Balls

Kade saw cotton balls and said, "Hot Dogs? Fire?"

He was remembering the marshmallows we had when we were camping in late July.

Cute Puppy

We were in the car driving to the Steel's house for Sunday dinner when Kade saw a man walking his dog down the street. "There's a puppy. Oh, cute! Cute puppy. I shoot it! - pishu, pishu -(shooting noises) I shot it!"

Um. . . what can I say? He spent two weeks with his Uncles in Idaho!

Heared

I was in the shower at Mom & Dad McEntire's house and Kirra comes bursting into the bathroom. . . "Mommy, Mommy, I'm so excited! Kade said Kirra! I never heared him say that before!"

In Idaho. . .

When we were in Idaho this summer . . .

June 10th - When we arrived in Wendell Nana & Papa gave us a tour of their house that was being remodeled. It was quite a huge mess and Kirra said, "This house freaks me out of my head!"

June 13th - Kade got a stomach bug and was really sick. At one point Kirra said, "Kade smells like puke." I told her that he didn't and she said, "Yes - I can smell it when he opens he jaw!"

"Mommy will you get me a jacket? Nana says I am cold."

Kirra went to Julia Davis Park with Uncle Nick to feed the ducks and geese and this was her story when she arrived home. "I have to tell you what happened - it's not too simple. I was holding bread behind me and the duck (Nick said it was a goose) bit my finger. They were hissing, some wanted all the bread and some didn't want any." Uncle Nick said the geese really were mean and had to protect Kirra from them!

Kirra and Kade were playing on the couch at Nick & Brett's house and we suddenly heard Kirra squeal, "Kade's penis is poking out." Nana and I thought maybe she hadn't gotten his diaper on right (he'd been having lots of diarrhea so lots of diaper changes) so Nana went to investigate and it wasn't poking out of his clothes - it was just hard. His uncles were so proud!

Terrorist

I took Kirra to a gymnastics performance rehearsal and on the way home we stopped at Target. When we were walking in I said, "It's so fun to shop with just you." Kirra replied, "Ya, without our terrorist?" Scott called Kade a terrorist a lot and of course she picks up everything we say!

The other day Kirra found a bug. . . "He's so cute! I love roly polys!"

Don't Worry

Kirra was talking to Nana on the phone about Nana's remodel and messy house and what we were going to do while we were in Idaho. When Kirra got off the phone she said to me, "It's OK - she'll have three really good helpers when we get there."

Thinks He's Funny

Kade is starting to pick up on little nuances of language and how he can get reactions from us when he says something.

This morning when Scott was leaving for work he said to Kade, "What's your name?" and Kade replied, "Kevy!" with a grin and a laugh.

I asked him a few more times that day to tell me his name and he always replied, "Kevy" with a big grin and waited for my reaction.

We Need You!

I was startled today when I heard a very clear "We Need You!" because it came from Kade and not Kirra. I heard someone call, "We need you" and I went to Kirra to see what she needed. She told me she hadn't called - it must have been Kade.

Peekaber

Scott got out his laptop at the kitchen table today and Kade said, "Peekaber?" and pointed to Scott's computer. Scott told him it was a computer and Kade said, "Yes, Peekaber".

Later in the day, just to see if he was going to use the same word, I pointed to our desktop computer and said, "What's this?" and Kade quickly replied, "Peekaber".

Nasty

We were eating dinner the night that Grandma and Grandpa arrived from Logan and Kade took a bite of potato salad and made a face and he said,"Hot!" It was potato salad for pete's sake so we knew it wasn't hot, but that was Kade's word for quite some time anytime he didn't want to eat something. He spit out the bite and said, "NASTY!" We all laughed at him and of course he thought that was great and so he kept taking bites and spitting them out saying nasty.

Kirra

Kade has called Kirra nothing but "Sis" or "Sissy" since he started talking, but today as he was looking for he called out, "Kirra, Kirra, Sis . . .Where are you?" He had been trying to find her for a little while so I guess he thought if he used her name he might get a better response - though he didn't. Kirra was hiding and wasn't about to give herself up!

Name

Kade has been recognizing himself in the mirror, in the bathtub drain, etc for quite some time now and he will say "Kade", but has never been able to answer the question, "What's your name?" without some serious prompting and basically telling him what to say. Today I said, "Kade, what is your name?" and Kade said, "KADE!" He is talking more and more each day and sometimes in forms that we aren't so fond of "I want it!" "I hab it" (I have it).

Bum

One morning as Kirra and I were laying in my bed - both of us not feeling well - and Kade woke up. I went to get him and brought him to my bed and he was not very happy about us hanging out in there. Kirra had a fever and I asked her if she needed some Tylenol - she refused but Kade thought it was a good idea and wanted some for himself. He whined and complained and drove us crazy and Kirra finally said, "Kade's a bum crack of dawn!"

So I guess I have to remember my kids pick up on everything I say! I often say that Kade woke up at the bum crack of dawn so Kirra just used it in a different context.

Kirra in April

April 4th -
We were at the zoo and I said, "Those kangaroos are weird." And Kirra reprimanded me saying, "They aren't weird Mommy! They are beautiful!"

Kirra was concerned about Nana leaving us and said, "When I wake up will she already be leaved?"

April 5th -
Mommy: How come you are taking all those toys outside?
Kirra: Mom! Because fertilizer isn't for little kids. . . Remember?" (Daddy was in the front yard putting fertilizer on the lawn)

April 6th -
Daddy: Time to watch General Conference.
Kirra: Ahh, Daddy. Conference is boring for little kids!

April 17th - Kirra whistled and was so proud of herself.

April 28th -
"I was in my room having peace and quiet reading my scriptures because you weren't coming out." (I was being a rude mom and going to the bathroom)

Dream

We were driving home from Utah and Kirra was telling us about a dream she'd had the night before. I don't remember all of it but this is the part that just cracked us up.

"My dream felt better - the monster drank coffee and then he died!"

Ya vs. Yes

Kade's little "Ya" is so much fun because he usually says it in a deep, little voice but the other day he started saying "Yes" and it kind of made me sad because he's growing up!

Monday, March 10, 2008

Backards

Kade loves the slide we gave to him and Kirra for Christmas and he has started to get really brave in the things he does on it. The other day he starting going down backwards and when he got to the bottom he told me "Backards" and he used that word for many months.

Kirra and I got the flu really bad at the beginning of March and Kirra was throwing up. He came over and watched while she threw up and said, "Spaghetti?" when he saw what she was throwing up. Then later I found him pretending to throw up in his dinosaur bucket because Kirra had been using a bucket to throw up in.

Kade also got sick and asked for his "mecida" or medicine. He really likes Tylenol and calls it "nyelnol"

Hiccup

When Kirra and I had the flu one morning she had the hiccups and kept complaining about them. I asked her why they were such a problem and she said, "When I hiccup the pop keeps coming out my ear." I sent her with Scott to the Dr. and she had an ear infection. It's so nice when they are old enough to tell us what is wrong!

Bones

Kade was just laying on the floor in my bathroom - here's our conversation. . .

Me: Kade, are you tired?
Kade: NoMe: We have to go to gymnastics in a little while.
Kade: Cackel?
Me: You want to go see Sister Castle?
Kade: Ya, BONE!
Me: You want to give the doggie a bone?
Kade: Two!
Me: Two bones?
Kade: Ya (and then he tried to hold up his two fingers and then made me hold up two of mine)

Kade loves to visit Sister Castle and give her dog bones and he thought since we were going to gymnastics that he needed to go somewhere else!

Locked Out

Kirra and Kade were a little miffed this morning when they discovered I had locked the bathroom door while I was taking a shower. I first heard Kade yelling, "Mommy, Mommy" and then heard the door knob being tested again and again by Kirra who then yelled, "Why is this door locked. . . again?" I told them I would be out very soon and they started banging on the door. Precisely the reason I locked the door - to keep my monsters out!

Talent

Kade is so musically talented that he felt the need to stand on the piano keys today! I think he wanted to feel the beat from his toes to his head.

Of course I ran over and swept him off of the piano and then I turn around to see Scott trying his best not to laugh out loud!

Burping His Tummy

Kirra came into my bedroom while I was putting on my makeup and said, "Kade sat in my lap for a long time. He was just leaned up against my chest and I was burping his tummy. He didn't have a burp, but I was burping him." She showed me the action and I told her that she was patting on his chest and she said, "Ya, burping his tummy."

Burping His Tummy

This morning Kirra came into my bathroom this morning while I was getting ready for the day. .

Kirra: Kade sat in my lap for a long time!
Mom: That's such a nice sister to let him do that.
Kirra: He was just leaned up against my chest and I was burping his tummy (she makes a patting action on her stomach) he didn't have a burp, but I was burping him.
Mom: You were patting his belly?
Kirra: Yes, and he liked it, then he decided to just sit on the floor and lean against the chair.

Talking to Nana

Kirra often calls Nana on the phone when I go to put Kade down for a nap or to bed in the evening. She even almost has the whole 11 number phone number memorized! I usually get reports from my mom on the topics they discuss or the funny things Kirra tells her about, but one thing is usually clear. . . when Kirra decides she doesn't want to talk anymore there's not much more past that.

Kirra: Nana, are you tired of talking to me?
Nana: Are you tired of talking?
Kirra: Yes, have a good day! (and promptly hangs up)

Sunday, February 10, 2008

Lucky

Kirra and I were laying in her bed last night and had this conversation - we had been talking about what good kids I have. . .

Mommy: I am so lucky!
Kirra: Yes, you are! You have good kids!
Mommy: I have a good husband, too.
Kirra: Yes, he toots a lot, but he's a good one!

Saturday, February 2, 2008

Talking On The Phone

Kirra likes to talk on the phone. . . .only on her own terms.

She was talking to Nana on the phone -

Kirra: Are you tired of talking to me?
Nana: Are you tired?
Kirra: Yes, have a good day (and she hung up).

Kitchen

Kade likes to play with our little pretend kitchen and the other day he watched me take cookies out of the oven with hot pads so when he was playing and couldn't get his muffin tin out of his little oven he ran to the cupboard where I keep the hot pads and used them to try and get the muffin tin out. He was not really trying to keep his hands from getting burned, he just thought the hot pads helped you with oven problems.

When I Grow Up. . .

Kirra and I were laying in her bed one night and she said, "When I grow up I want to be a Mommy." I told her that was wonderful and that when she is a mommy I will be the Nana. She was quiet for a long time and then she started to cry. She was worried that I wouldn't be her mommy anymore! We talked about how I will always be her mommy but I will be the Nana to her kids, just like Nana is still my mommy but a Nana to Kirra and Kade.

Another little conversation. . .

Kirra: Kade is so cute!
Mommy: Not as cute as you.
Kirra: No never!

Being the Mommy

Kirra and I have many interesting conversations while we are laying in bed together.

Kirra: When I grow up I want to be a Mommy!
Mommy: Yeah, I would love for you to be a Mommy and then I'll get to be the Nana!
Kirra: What? I already have a Nana (and then she starts to cry).
Mommy: Bewildered at the crying, "What's wrong?"
Kirra: I want you to stay my Mommy!
Mommy: I will always be your mommy, but when you have kids I'll get to be their Nana.

I change the subject . . . and then a few minutes later. . .

Kirra: Oh, so you'll always be MY Mommy, but when I have my own kids then they will call you Nana like I call your mommy Nana!

Phew! Glad that crisis didn't last long!

Sun, Moon, & Earth

One afternoon when we returned home from church we could see the moon in the sky and Kirra started asking some questions. I gave a simple explanation about how the earth is round and the Earth goes around the moon. Daddy on the other hand, gave a much more in-depth account of how the Earth goes around the Sun and then the Moom goes around the Earth. Kirra listened intently and waited for Scott to finish and then said, "Yeah, but hey look there's a birdie on the top of that tree!" She was so kind to let Daddy explain things to her, but her mind was already onto other topics. She's brought it up a few times since then and she was actually listening and learned something!

Baucko

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse = "Baucko" in Kade language
Kade loves the show!

January 7th - Kade said "Fish" instead of "Bish" like he had been for months.

Janjuary 14th - First time we played Duck Duck Goose and Ring Around the Rosie with Kade for Family Home Evening. He loved it!

January 17th - Found Kade playing in the toilet and then later eating crayons.

Ice

After a spaghetti dinner the other night Kirra wanted some crushed ice that she could eat with a spoon. Well, of course Kade wanted some of what his sister was eating and Kirra was being very kind and giving him small pieces of ice, and then all of the sudden she decided she didn't want to anymore. Scott told her to keep giving him ice and she said, "I'm not going to share my ice with him anymore. . . I don't want that Parmesan on his face to mess up my spoon!"

No More Sharing

Kirra was eating ice chips and Kade decided he wanted some too so she was donig a good job of sharing with him until. . .

"I'm not going to share my ice with him anymore. . . I don't want that parmesean on his face to mess up my spoon."

Tuesday, January 8, 2008

Camouflage

I was making a grocery list so Kirra decided she needed to make a list too. She asked, "Mommy, how do you spell camouflage, I need some camouflage?" I told her how to spell it and then she told me, "I've never eaten camouflage before." This comment made me stop and think of what on earth she could be thinking and then I saw on the front page of the Alberston's ad, a cantaloupe!

Fish or Bish?

Kade loves fish and until today has called them "Bish" - but as I was changing his diaper he clearly said, "Fish!" We are making progress!

Deliberation

For Christmas Kirra received a Polly Pocket set from Aunt Evie. She was thrilled that Aunt Evie knew she liked playing with Polly Pockets and was going to overlook the fact she already had the same little set. We emailed Aunt Evie and found out where she purchased the set and we took Kirra to Mervyn's to pick out something else. Oh, we had no idea how long it would take! We browsed for a little while and then I showed Kirra the things that were the same price and told her she could choose one Barbie, one Polly Pocket set, or three mini-Polly Pocket sets. She started to cry when she found out she could only choose one and when the painful decision was finally made she said, "But what if other girls come and buy the other cute Barbie's I liked, then they won't be here for the next time we come back!" After we made the exchange and we headed out of the store she said, "You know why I chose the Island Princess Barbie? Because that's the one you liked the best Mommy." I'm don't know if she said that to make me feel good or if she was letting me know I pressured her into something she wasn't quite sure about!

Not Yours

I was singing along with Ariel from Little Mermaid while we were listening to the new soundtrack CD Kirra got for Christmas and she looks at me and with exasperation says, "Hey, I can't let you do that! This is my CD!"

Either she didn't like my singing or she wasn't the star of the show!
