Week in Review

This last week was an eventful time in the Massey household. Owen had his 6 month birthday, his 6 month check-up and immunizations, and a procedure performed to both of his eyes to open up his tear ducts because they were not draining properly. We knew going into the doctor's office that one eye was not draining, but when we got there the pediatric opthamologist informed us that both eyes were blocked. The procedure went fairly well and took about 15 minutes. However, it was really hard to see Owen strapped into a baby restraint-type system and held down by two nurses. The nice thing was they assured us that he felt minimal pain, although I have to admit I still got choked up at the beginning of the procedure and had to stand in the hallway to collect myself.
This last week I also went on a job interview and was offered a job. It is a part-time position in an amazing retirement community and we really feel as if it is the perfect fit for our family. I really wanted to find a job where I could still be a Mommy to Owen, and I seem to have found it.

Here is our last event of the week. Owen started baby food! Yum, yum!

Brian's Mission

I logged into our blog yesterday and I noticed Brian had put up music from one of our favorite children CDs for Owen. Brian has made it his personal mission that Owen is surrounded by music in his life. Brian plays his guitar to him all of the time and researches CDs for him quite often on the internet. Brian also does a good job of having music playing in our house when we are playing or during bath time. We have been listening to the Beatles, Jack Johnson, and the Juno soundtrack from our music repertoire and we are now starting to listen to some children's music. Music has soothed Owen well from day one, but now, he really listens intently whenever it is playing. Above is a picture of Brian playing his guitar to Owen who is one week old. Isn't he a sweet Dad?

The Cereal Life

You can probably tell from the horrible pun that this is Brian posting and not Cara; she wanted me to make sure that everyone knew it was not her coming up with the lame title. Moving on...Owen has started to get back into his old routine with sleep, which is nice for everyone in the house. He's also started some new things that I wanted to share. Since our return to SC, the pediatrician has given us the go-ahead on starting rice cereal. At first, Owen was very interested in it, though he didn't really seem to like the taste once he got it in his mouth. After a few days, he now really enjoys it and can't seem to get enough. Although, looking at the picture below, I'm not really sure how much actually made it to his stomach. I also added some pictures of Owen and me at his swimming lessons. I was able to make it to one, and we had a blast. He really loves to "jump" off of the side and into the water. He also did a great job of kicking in the water while I was holding him semi-parallel to it. The swimming lessons are helping him to enjoy his baths quite a bit, so that's a fun time each evening for us.

Owen's First Trip To Texas

Whew! We just got back from a two week vacation to introduce Owen to family and friends. We had such a good time and the trip only confirmed our beliefs that we need to move back there ASAP after Brian's residency. It was so good to see all of our families and friends love on our child! We started off the trip in Dallas with a day trip to Granbury. There Owen met Bryson and Destinie his cousins. Owen loved to bounce on his great-Papa's knee and look around the room. Owen is smiling at his great aunt Terri.
Bryson and Owen hung out with Big Mama.
We stayed at Auntie and U.B.'s house in Dallas. Here is Auntie and Owen goofing off.
Kelly, one of our friends from A&M, stopped by Brandis' house to meet Owen.
Next, we went to stay at Papa and JuJu's house. Here is Owen with his great-grand Pop.
Owen thinks his Nana is really funny!
Here is Owen, me and his Papa.
Owen and JuJu are relaxing in the chair and looking out the windows. Owen loves to either look outside or be outside as much as possible.
We took a day trip to Salado to see family. Here Owen is hanging with his cousins Kaegan, McKenna & Corbin.
Here Owen is meeting Joey and Tammy at my parent's house. Tammy is one of my good friends I grew up with at church.

The Warners (Chad, Haley and Will) also came to see us. They are close friends from Texas A&M.

Last, we traveled to San Antonio to stay at Grammy and Granpa VR's house. Here is four generations of Brian's family. Brian's grandmother (Mom), Grammy, Brian and Owen.

We had a really good time on our trip and we want to thank everyone for everything. There are close to 1500 pictures of our trip on our Snapfish Group Room of almost everyone we were able to visit with. We already miss all of you!!!
