Growth on My Shoulders

Looking at the pictures from last weekend made me think of the first time that I put Owen up on my shoulders. It was 11 months ago on St. Patrick's Day. I remember thinking how my huge melon covered up pretty much all of him. Being always around Owen, it's easy to lose track of how much (and fast) he's growing and changing. Here's a short time-line of Owen's growth on my shoulders.

Birds of Prey

We needed to get out of the house this weekend, so we spent the afternoon downtown for the wildlife exposition. I was most interested in seeing the birds of prey exhibit, and Owen woke up from his nap just in time for us to miss only the first 15 minutes or so of it. I think that Owen enjoyed the birds just as much as Cara and I did. There was a bird handler who would bring out the birds, let them fly, and he would tell us about them as they would swoop over the crowd and return to him for food. We were only able to see the Yellow-Billed Kite, but it was a cool bird. Owen sat on my shoulders and watched with his mouth agape as the bird flew over our heads. When that demonstration ended, we went over to the area of the park where they had monkeys, goats, and all kinds of animals that you could pet or feed. True to Owen's style, he found more interest in the orange power cords that were running across the ground than the animals. We hitched a ride on one of the buses over to the part of town where they had the dock dogs competition. Owen loved the bus ride, as it was too full and we had to stand in the aisle. It was probably the first time that he was really able to have a good view out of a vehicle's window while driving, and he just took it all in. The dock dogs competition is where the dogs jump from the dock into the water to see who can go the farthest. It was hard to see the dogs very well since there were so many people there, but Owen was funny because he really responded to the crowd noise. Whenever the crowd would cheer, Owen would join right in with a "Whooooo", and he knew he was so funny. Now we just have to get him to add that "p" to the end, and he'll be ready for some Aggie games. We ended the outing by hitching a bus ride back over to the other side of town for more animals, but, by the time we arrived, Owen was about ready to call it a day. We let him run around outside the convention center for a bit, and then we went back home. We don't have many pictures from the day, but here are a few.

The Enabler

I had a request to update the Snapfish photos, so in the process of doing that, I thought I would put up a few more pictures from the last several days. Owen, it seems, has recovered from his GI illness. Unfortunately for him, he only had about a day of feeling back to normal when he started cutting another tooth. So, we're dealing with that right now. Well, here are a few pictures from while he was sick. I was a bit of an enabler while Owen wasn't feeling good, giving in on things like the number of toys he can get out of his toy box at one time. But, at the time, I was looking for anything to help him feel a little better. I think he appreciated it. He also enjoys being outside, so we did some of that, which he loved as always.

Don't worry. This was when he was feeling better and keeping things down. Also, he kept pretending (or perhaps wishing) that there were actually some crackers left in this box.

Fomites

We've been dealing with sickness again here. In fact, the word is that this GI bug has gone green and is recycling itself through Owen's daycare. This is the second time in about 3 weeks that he's been sick with it. Consequently, there's not much to report unless you want to hear the details of his various disgorgements. I had fallen behind in transferring some pictures to the computer, so here are a few from the past month.

He likes to see if he can squeeze himself into tight places.
Owen likes to help with the dishes. He hands us the spoons one-by-one.
