Poem of the Month

As if this is something I actually do. But I was introduced to this poem in my Teaching Reading class and it hit a little too close to home for me not to share it. Apparently Richard Brautigan and I are more alike than either of us would like to admit. Enjoy!

It's Raining in Love
I don't know what it is,
but I distrust myself
when I start to like a girl
a lot.

It makes me nervous.
I don't say the right things
or perhaps I start
to examine,
evaluate,
compute
what I am saying.

If I say, "Do you think it's going to rain?"
and she says, "I don't know,"
I start thinking: Does she really like me?

In other words
I get a little creepy.

A friend of mine once said,
"It's twenty times better to be friends
with someone
than it is to be in love with them."

I think he's right and besides,
it's raining somewhere, programming flowers
and keeping snails happy.
That's all taken care of.

BUT

if a girl likes me a lot
and starts getting real nervous
and suddenly begins asking me funny questions
and looks sad if I give the wrong answers
and she says things like,
"Do you think it's going to rain?"
and I say, "It beats me,"
and she says, "Oh,"
and looks a little sad
at the clear blue California sky,
I think: Thank God, it's you, baby, this time
instead of me.

Because there's nothing else to do in Provo...

We throw flour at each other. Amazing.

Random/Disorganized Thoughts/Updates

Good news. I survived.
I finished my giant paper that was due at 4:00 at 4:00 (I was just putting the last touches on the works cited page) and got it in about 10 minutes late. Dr. Dean didn't care, so all was well. I must say that any paper that I wrote in two days should probably not be impossible to staple (13 pages plus drafts and grade sheets) but what are you going to do? Many thanks to Brad and Jonathan for saving me from throwing my neck and back out with stress.
I pretty much did nothing for the rest of the weekend - I so needed it. We had an amazing ward party on Saturday which I didn't dress up for, but I enjoyed everyone else's costumes. (I went to DI looking for costume ideas that morning, but although I got a great idea, I'm not quite there yet. Krissie is helping me today.) Surely only in Utah at a ward party could someone be a Catholic priest for Halloween? And carry an inspired version of the Bible? Because that was incredible.
We also had an awesome family Halloween party - I'm hoping that someone in my family sends me pictures soon, because my nephews and niece were adorable. I think the highlight was when Cooper was actually scared of Jake in his costume. (Jake is Dracula and pulls it off really well for a 4 year old.) There was chili and justice for all, and Mom outdid herself as usual.
I'm pretty excited for FHE tonight, mostly because it will afford some fabulous photo opportunities. We're having a California snowball fight (we're chucking flour balls at each other) and I am way more excited than I would have expected. Maybe it was because it was a socially fulfilling weekend and I'm enjoying feeling like I'm actually a part of the ward now, but I can't wait to peg and be pegged with cooking supplies.
I'm feeling much less crazy than I did last week. The playlist and the social interaction and some moments of dwelling in reality writing papers are making me feel less stupid. I look forward to at least a few days of sanity. I'm pretty excited about those days, because I don't have quite as much on my plate this week and I can't wait for the Thriller dance and the extravagantic Dracula book club meeting (oh my gosh that book is TERRIFYING), actually being able to go to institute, the choir concert on Friday (anyone want to go?), Doug's photography class, the football game, the ballet . . . Lots of stuff to keep me in the realm of the sane and busy without quite as much school stress.
Clearly I have nothing more to say (and I didn't really to begin with) so I'm going to go and buy batteries for my camera so that I can post some amazing pictures of flour covered people tomorrow. Have a lovely week, one and all.

Have You Seen This?

The Edward/Bella Mutts comics this week. Not really funny...but this was my favorite. Thought I would share.

Pray for me...

...because I have a giant paper due tomorrow and I haven't had time to do much of it. This is partly because last week I spent every waking moment trying to do my Hitchcock annotated bibliography (which I finally finished on Tuesday - it was due the Thursday before) and partly because life is just crazy. And also partly because I am just TIRED.
So I'm in the library and I'm ready to spend the next several hours here, and probably most of tomorrow. Wish me luck and a miracle.

Thanks Lindsey.

Our New Friend

Jennie and Miri adopted a pet tonight. We named him Elliot.
At last - someone to cuddle.

Aha!

Today I had a very long and very enlightening conversation with my oldest brother, Treb. (Some of you may know him as trub - I believe that's how he posts on my blog. There's a story about that which I'm not going to write here.)
Apparently, all of my relationship ineptitude is genetic (not that my parents are genetically inept... maybe it was recessive). Despite the fact that my brother and I are 14 years apart in age, we are currently living parallel lives (at least in our heads). We both over think everything to the point of frenzy, are crap at playing the game, and then plunge ourself into despair over nothings. (And make playlists. Don't forget that.)
We decided that we are anachronisms. We have longer attention spans than most of the people we know, and consequently are interested longer and also read books, which means that deep down we would be okay with the romance of a Cyrano-esque wooing or with just bearing our souls. We're searching for a soul to soul connection - the kind that seems to be more difficult to find than some would have you believe.
So today I drove to Payson (Why Payson? Why not?) and tried out my new playlist - it fit the bill perfectly. I feel much more myself today than I have in a week, and since talking to my brother I've realized that last week was me too - I may as well get used to it, because it's in my genes.
I've also decided I need to see Annie Hall for real. I need some perspective on my life. :)
I also love this picture. I first found it on Katherine's blog - it's amazing. The end.

In honor of my recent insomnia...

I may have a complex, but I can define it in 80 minutes of music or less.

A new playlist. I'm not exactly sure what the theme of this one is - it works in my head, (kind of a progressive how-I-feel-in-an-I-don't-know-how-I-feel sort of way) but you'll just have to see if it works for you. Either way, it's been a couple of weeks since I posted one, and these are all good songs. I think maybe there's something skewed about the fact that sometimes I can articulate how I feel about things with playlists, but Rogue Wave tells me that, "The music that I want is cheaper than therapy." So here you go:
  • "Homesick" - Kings of Convenience
  • "Nothing Happening" - Ben Kweller
  • "It's Only Fear" - Alexi Murdoch
  • "Starting Over" - Ashton Allen
  • "How to Survive a Broken Heart" - Ben Lee
  • "Grey Room" - Damien Rice
  • "Une Annee Sans Lumiere" - The Arcade Fire
  • "If I Fall" - Aqualung
  • "My Song" - Brandi Carlile
  • "St. Augustine" - Band of Horses
  • "Nice to Fit In" - Josh Rouse
  • "Are You On My Side" - Rogue Wave
  • "On Your Side" - Pete Yorn
  • "Save" - The Rocket Summer
  • "Poison Cup" - M. Ward
  • "What Light" - Wilco
  • "Learn to Live With What You Are" - Ben Folds
  • "Congratulations" - Blue October
  • "After the Bombs" - The Decemberists
  • "Say It to Me Now" - Glen Hansard

Bah.

Some weeks are very good weeks. I'm not sure this was one of them.
First. I am so sick of fighting with myself to get anything done. After the first two days of this week I had absolutely no motivation to get anything done...and didn't. For some reason I just can't sit down and accomplish anything (even now, which is why I'm blogging.)I hate it, but . . . bah.
Second. I keep losing minutes. I keep doing things and then having no recollection of doing them. This morning I washed my hair twice because I honestly couldn't remember washing it the first time. How do you do something without even noticing that you did it?
Third. There are times when I get really sick of being single, and when anything comes close to something happening I go crazy. I hate being a stupid girl. I hate my own insecurities, my complexes that tell me that I am and always will be the awesome "friend," that I am not really dating material because they probably can't imagine kissing me, etc. And the thing is I definitely send myself over the deep end really quickly - it happens in a matter of a day or two - one minute I'm confident, the next I'm an idiot. I am not a stupid girl - why do I act like it?
I am really annoyed with myself right now. And I don't know why I'm telling you all this, but you love me, so I feel okay about it.
Bleah and double bleah.

Not sure how I feel about this . . .

Although it does sound rather familiar. Does being Pam mean that someday I'll meet my Jim?

I am a geek.

Last night I went to an honest-to-goodness poetry reading in an art gallery. It was down at Gallery 110, which is close to the Provo police station (I had flashbacks about going to traffic school) and it was so cool!
The readers were Susan Howe and Lance Larsen, both professors at BYU. I loved their styles, their varied subject matter, the surprises (things people who aren't familiar with the BYU humanities faculty would probably be surprised to hear LDS professors writing about), the rich word choice... It all made me wish I didn't write such predictable poetry. I think I'll dig out my birthday present from Treb, The Ode Less Traveled, by Stephen Fry. Maybe with a little help and last night's poets' recommendations I can be less cheesy and more wow.
Meanwhile, going to a poetry reading at an independent art gallery made me feel really cool in a geeky sort of way. I love it.

Self Control

I may be unable to concentrate for more than a few seconds when I'm trying to do homework, but today I was proud of myself when I went into the bookstore.
I went in because we read this really amazing essay by Annie Dillard in my teaching writing class, and I decided that, since I've been meaning to since I was a freshman here at BYU, it was high time I checked out her stuff in earnest. Plus, I was going to eat dinner in the Cougareat and I didn't have anything interesting to read, and I wanted something.
So first I stopped in the bargain books section, where I found a $30 copy of A Year in the Life of William Shakespeare: 1599 for $7.99. Amazing! Must buy! Will leave here whilst I continue looking.
Next I found Anne Tyler's The Accidental Tourist for $4.99. I don't know much about this book, but I once read a book by Anne Tyler that was quite good, and didn't they make a movie of this one? (Yes. I just looked it up.) It seemed like a good book, and it was sort of cheap . . .
Next I found Too Late the Phalarope by Alan Paton. I don't even remember how much this was, but it wasn't much, and I loved Cry, the Beloved Country. I'd never even thought of finding something else that he had written - this was my chance!
I also found The Book Thief, which is finally out in paperback. I've been dying to read this book - it looks so cool! And it was 25% off (I left the bargain books section) and felt so good and ready to read in my hands . . .
I also found Shannon Hale's new book, Book of a Thousand Days. I love the look of this book, and I especially love the feel of the hardback copy. I'm so excited to read this book, and there it was, in all its brand new glory . . . with all its brand new price.
I avoided the Robin McKinley books on purpose. I'll be borrow DragonHaven from Sam one of these days, and I don't want to fall in love with it first and lose my cool.
Finally I found the essay section, where there were exactly two Annie Dillard books. One was $13, and one had three of her books for $20!
Now here's why Annie Dillard is awesome: not only is she an incredible writer, she is also and incredible model for teaching writing. I'm totally investing in my career here.
However, $20 was more than I was really planning to spend today, so one by one, I said goodbye to the other books I wanted to buy.
I went into a bookstore for something specific, and I came out with it and nothing else. Let us all take a moment to consider this, and then you can all send your awe and admiration my way.

hahaha.

You Are 93% Feminist

You are a total feminist. This doesn't mean you're a man hater (in fact, you may be a man).
You just think that men and women should be treated equally. It's a simple idea but somehow complicated for the world to put into action.

Are we surprised? Not really.

Fostering Corruption? Or . . . BRILLIANCE?

Funny words to hear a two-year old say (and also why I'm the best nanny ever):
  • sifter
  • ridiculous
  • fabulous
  • angst (Context on this one: Ethan was writing with his mom's pink pen and it was WAY INTENSE - since he'd been kind of a bum all day I said, "You've got some serious angst, buddy boy!" He repeated, "Angst, buddy boy! Angst, buddy boy!" Be very careful what you say.)
  • shakin' and bakin' - I was teaching Ethan a game I like to call "Working at Wendy's" (yeah, I'm giving him some really high aspirations) because there's a little place in the playground that looks like a drive up window. We turned the playground bark into chicken nuggets and French fries, and then I asked what he was doing, and followed up with, "Are you working at Wendy's? Shakin' and bakin'?" Yeah, he's still saying that one.
  • Mr. Fluffernutter (see Skippyjon Jones)
So yeah. If you just go on vocabulary, I'm going to be a great mom.

Sing us a song, you're the piano man...

I have one things to say, and it is this:

He may be getting old, but he still rocks. And I'm going to see him before he doesn't any more.
At the end of November.

O...M...G...

Between the click of a light and the start of a dream . . .

This is getting a little ridiculous.
My schedule is so messed up and my stomach is so tied up in knots with stress that I spend at least two hours every night trying to fall asleep. Last night I know that eventually I fell asleep, but I didn't feel like it - I was still tossing and turning this morning . . . until about 8:15 when I was supposed to get up. I woke up again at 8:30 without much time to get to class . . . so I didn't go.
Meanwhile, I fall asleep every time I try to do my reading. On Friday I took a three hour nap in an attempt to catch up a little and I was still tired most of the night.
The problem is that I never realize it's going to be a horrible night until about 2:30 am, at which point I'm not really good with taking Tylenol PM or something, because I actually need to get up pretty early every morning.
So here I am today attempting to concentrate on the ridiculous stack of homework that needs to be done sometime tomorrow. I'm seriously considering praying to St. Caffeine.

Truly Scary

I just have to tell you this.
I decided that I wanted to watch the music video for "Thriller" because of it's current place in my life (yeah, when did you think you'd hear that?), so I looked it up on youtube.
I don't know if any of you have ever noticed the first few seconds of this video, but it begins with a disclaimer:
"Due to my strong personal convictions, I wish to stress that this film in no way endorses a belief in the occult.
-Michael Jackson"

Strong personal convictions?
I was going to post a picture of him to emphasize my point, but looking at current pictures of him kind of made me want to throw up.

That is all.

33%, 33%, and 33%!

Exciting things today:
1) I applied for graduation! I'm officially on my way out of here (assuming I get through the next 4 days, which is iffy.)
2)I ran into a million people on campus today and used up all of the time I was going to spend on homework. I saw Melanie McMullin and Josh Manwaring in the ASB, and Elise Crane, Chelsea Walker, and Melissa Gurr in the library. My favorite part is the segregation - I saw the WX people one place and the 129th ward people somewhere else.
3)I fell in love with peanut butter tracks ice cream from the creamery. Mmm...
4) Now the real reason for this post. (See the picture on the right, which I'm trying to decide whether or not I should explain. I'm thinking not, but it's funny.)
Yesterday my friend Sheldon invited me to go to the Italian club's movie night. They were showing a movie called Non ci resta che piangre which stars Roberto Benigni and Massimo Troisi, both Italians I love. (Massimo was in the terribly fantastic Il Postino, which I saw at International Cinema last year.)
Of course my first question was, "Will there be subtitles?" I'm well aware of my deficiencies with the Italian language, and I wanted to make sure. Sheldon assured me that there would be subtitles and all would be well, so I agreed to go.
We got to the club meeting and I felt like I was in a foreign country. Everyone was speaking Italian, including the professors introducing the movie. Sheldon was translating the introduction when suddenly he stopped and covered his mouth in horror. His friend on the other side started to laugh. He turned to me with wide eyes and said, "They just said there are no subtitles. I'm SO sorry."
I don't know how many people there were not members of any Italian class, but my guess would be not many. I stayed anyway, and I learned something: Italians talk with their hands a lot. So despite the language barrier, I figured out most of what was going on, and I had Italian speakers all around me for those moments when I didn't have a clue. Sheldon translated some of the more hilarious lines, and Roberto Benigni's body language is so funny that it was pretty fantastic anyway.
Let that be a lesson - don't think you can't watch a movie if you can't understand it. Unless it's a Russian movie, at which point all bets are off.

Crap.

The latest from despair.com has me thinking long and hard about my life.

Mustache Power!

Some of you may remember this picture from a few months ago. You thought, what on earth is Megan talking about? Why is she posting this ridiculous picture without explaining it?
Wonder no more friends! Mustache Power Productions is officially in business, and our first video is up on youtube.com, but you can see it here!
I didn't do a lot on this particular movie; I edited the script and offered some suggestions, but I was out of town for every night of filming. However, one of my brothers directed it, and another did the camera work, and we think it's funny. We started (and hopefully everyone will finish) another, less complicated movie tonight, so there should be one about once a month from now on. (I'm in the new one - I have two words!)
For your viewing pleasure:

Um...

Last week I got an email from the edited movie company that has been "going out of business" since the legislation against such organizations passed. They offered me a coupon for 50% off my purchase because over the summer I had tried to order several movies while their payment functions on the site were down, and eventually we ordered all of those movies through Jason McGee's account, so I didn't need more of them. However, they have been in my cart since that time, and apparently the good people at this place want to add those movies to their ever decreasing (then why do they have new releases?) inventory.
I deleted the items in my cart, but I have been wanting to see The English Patient since I read the book last spring, and I found a copy of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein for $6 and figured it was my chance to see Kenneth Branagh as a mad scientist. I went to place my order with my coupon, but it didn't work! I tried again (which was frustrating, because I was at home using my parents' dialup when I remembered that the coupon expired) but to no avail! I thought maybe I'd read the coupon wrong and started writing an apologetic but hopeful e-mail, but when I reread it I saw that it really should have been good for a few more hours. I rewrote the e-mail and asked them very nicely to give me back half of my money (because I placed the order anyway, thinking that they'd know I really had placed the order in time).
Today I got the following amazing e-mail:

Dear Megan,

It seams the site shut off the coupon at midnight eastern time, by mistake. However, the coupon will be working for 2 days more.
Robin,as part of our Friends and Family Promotion, we would like to give you a free DVD! For every three people that you refer and makes a purchase with Family Focus Films you will receive at last one free DVD of your choice. It is simple! Just tell them to put your name or email into the "Referred by" field when they are creating their account.

Regards,Lorena Gramática

Aside from some awesome disagreement and some very interesting comma usage, there are two things about this that I would particularly like you to notice (so that I can make fun of them). It seams that they're spell chequer is knot quite write for this sit chew eh shun, and it also seams that halfway through the e-mail they forgot that my name is not Robin, lovely as that name is. Finally, note the fine representative's last name. I don't know what that actually means, but under the circumstances, it seemed (seamed?) a bit ironic.

(Disclaimer: I am not making fun of non-native English speakers. I'm making fun of inattentive grammar in a business e-mail. Actually, it wouldn't have surprised me to receive an e-mail like this from several native speakers that I know. I realize that it is probably politically incorrect to criticize someone's English on my blog. However, since they didn't even take the time to make sure they were sending their "special offer" to the same person whose problem they didn't fix, I don't actually feel that bad, because clearly this e-mail was not the result of a great deal of time and consideration. Thank you.)

I replied and pointed out that, as I actually placed the order on Saturday, what I needed was a refund, not a new coupon.

I got another e-mail this afternoon refunding my $8.46.

Halloweenhead

You knew it was coming. (dun du da!)
The 2007 Megan Winegar Halloween playlist!! It will probably get updated throughout October, but I thought I'd let you get started on the collection. The first 18 or so will be the official "I can burn this to a CD" list, and then there are a bunch of alternates and extras. Ready go.

And now the alternates and bonus tracks:
  • "Halloweenhead" - Ryan Adams (Great song, but the second time I listened to it I heard some language I missed the first time.)
  • "They Are Zombies!! They Are Neighbors!! They Have Come Back from the Dead!! Ahhhh!" - Sufjan Stevens (I know, you'd think this would be on the real list, but trust me, the other song by Sufjan is much scarier.)

  • The following songs by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds:
  1. "The Carny"
  2. "Where the Wild Roses Grow"

100 Reasons to be Happy for the 100th Post

For my 100th post on my blog, I am undertaking a challenge. Ready, set...
  1. This weekend is Conference!
  2. One of my two giant rough drafts due on Tuesday was moved back about a week. There is hope after all!
  3. I read two 300+ page books this week that weren't for any class or reason.
  4. I had a conversation with a boy and talked about Shakespeare and feminism without having him look at me like I was insane.
  5. I went on my first date(s?) in months this week.
  6. Miri's reaction to my getting asked out for tonight - "I knew you couldn't be so beautiful for nothing!"
  7. I'm making a Halloween mix. So far it is thus: "Thriller" (Michael Jackson), "Dead Man's Party" (Oingo Boingo), "Goodnight Socialite" (The Brobecks), "Shankill Butchers" (The Decemberists), "Moon Over Bourbon Street" (Sting), "Creep" (Radiohead), "Sleep" (My Chemical Romance), "Haunted" (Evanescence). Feel free to offer suggestions.
  8. I went home last weekend and got to talk to my mommy. Yay for mommies.
  9. I ALSO got to talk to Lindsey while I was driving home last week - I hadn't talked to her for a couple of months, and I miss her.
  10. Dr. Dean made us pumpkin bars today.
  11. Jake (my four year old nephew) has a better dating life than I do. He holds hands with his little friend Gabriella, and when I laughed about this, he said, "It's not funny! She's special!"
  12. Ethan wanted to stay and play with me instead of going back to "see Mommy see Mommy see Mommy..."
  13. I went to institute this week, and it was good despite 3 very pointed references to using the Holy Ghost to confirm if someone could be your eternal companion.
  14. We watched Psycho in my Hitchcock class and I liked it a lot more than I did when I saw it the first time.
  15. It was warm today and I rolled my windows down while I drove back from Spanish Fork while singing "I Fought the Law" very loudly.
  16. Did I mention I found a really good song with my name in it? :)
  17. I paid my rent a whole day early!
  18. The new Rogue Wave CD is fabulous.
  19. I am still excited about the Arcade Fire concert last week.
  20. I discovered the French toast at the Scoreboard Grill and eat it at least twice a week. ($1.50 for two pieces of French toast with raspberries and whipped cream! How could I not??)
  21. My student teaching application is in!
  22. I still have one Capri Sun left in my cupboard.
  23. I went to the temple today and it was lovely. It's been too long.
  24. Janie got engaged!
  25. The Office is back, and Jim and Pam are cute together.
  26. The ward is starting to feel like a ward. I know some people, some people know me.
  27. At the ill-named "munch and mingle" last week, I met 3 people who like The Format.
  28. Miri is importing a CD called "Emo Baby, Emo" into her iTunes library.
  29. We watched another Simpsons clip in my Hitchcock class today.
  30. Some people have glasses. Some people have headgear. Fran could play linebacker for the Raiders.
  31. I got to use Shackleton in my lesson for my reading class.
  32. In 3 weeks, my horrible classroom management class will be over.
  33. There is a duck wearing a sombrero on my desk.
  34. Because I am an English major, I have no midterms. Or any tests, for that matter. Except dance, and let's be honest - I'm not studying too hard for that one.
  35. I'm am only losing most of my facebook Scrabble games, not all. Yet.
  36. I just found out my mom is in Provo today, and I don't have class until all hours.
  37. I went to the Choral Showcase last week and it was lovely, even though I was sad not to be in it.
  38. I'm listening to Ben Kweller's "Falling" right now, and it still makes me very happy.
  39. I'm not superstitious. I'm a little stitious.
  40. Our wireless is fixed, which is happy even though my wireless card seems to be broken.
  41. I get to study Hitchcock and Poe in the same class, and we actually talked about the reason behind the teeth obsession in "Berenice." The teeth! The teeth!
  42. This week, I found a song with the words "concubines" and "falderal." (Actually, I know two songs with the word "concubines" in them, but the combination of the two . . . incredible.
  43. Last night's episode of the Office is online now, so I'll be watching it as soon as I get home.
  44. Short hair dries much more quickly than long hair. Can you say five extra minutes of sleep every morning?
  45. Funky days are back again. It seems they're back in vogue again.
  46. I found an edited version of Kenneth Branagh's version of Frankenstein for $5.95, and the good people at the movie site just gave me a half off code so I'd buy the movies that we already bought on Jason McGee's account, so I'll be buying it. It may be horrible, but it has a great cast, and it's $3.00!
  47. Marci has a date tonight!
  48. My book club is reading Dracula this month. I sincerely hope to be able to find the time to read it, because it has been on the list for quite some time.
  49. Two words: "Grace Kelly." And by that I mean the song by Mika rather than the person. Although she's great too.
  50. I picked up my application for graduation this week, and I'll be turning it in as soon as I have my interview with the education people. (I forgot my appointment on Wednesday - I was eating French toast.)
  51. I'm more than halfway to 100!
  52. My social dance teacher didn't show today, and, despite my overachieving classmates who wanted to practice anyway, I left at 9:30!
  53. I've now finally written my case study on classroom management. In true non-prostituting fashion, I didn't do it when it was actually due because I hadn't had time to do a good job and actually get something out of it. Go ahead, professor. Take off the points.
  54. I've got friends who (la la la lie) help me pull through (la la la la la lie).
  55. I brought all of my sweaters back to Provo with me, but then it got warm and I'm still wearing t-shirts as long as possible. Come on Indian Summer. (That's probably not a PC term. I don't care.)
  56. Oprah added another book to her book club list! (hahahahahahaha.)
  57. I just watched last night's episode of the Office, and it made me laugh a lot. I need to make sure that my parents see the part about the GPS thing sending Michael into the lake.
  58. Sidewalk chalk.
  59. The fact that Treb had songs to add to the Halloween mix and admitted to loving Duran Duran right here on my blog.
  60. The fact that I just watched The Office on the internet and they had COMMERCIALS. (Sheldon: "I love how they advertise for Direct TV . . . if I had a freaking TV I wouldn't be watching the Office on the FREAKING internet!")
  61. Today Dr. Grierson had a slide with a picture of Vladamir Nabokov on it. She was explaining who he was and said, "He wrote Lolita. You don't want to read Lolita, but he's still very important." I turned around and raised my eyebrows at Kellie, who said, "Actually, it's on my list." Yeah, mine too. Loving the disconnect between regular English professors and English teaching professors, and the fact that apparently I'm on the wrong side of the line.
  62. Speaking of Dr. Grierson's class and Kellie, today I wrote and passed a note to Kellie in Dr. Grierson's class. Ironic? Yes, because it was a very silly note about a boy, and I passed it in a teaching class. And was sneaking about it. Yes, I still act like I'm in 8th grade. What's it to you?
  63. Romans 15:13
  64. The really awesome picture of the British Parliament on my calendar this month. Have you ever actually seen a purple sky though? I hope that someone has.
  65. The new wallpaper on my phone - a picture of the twins tormenting a stray cat. And looking very cute doing it.
  66. The fact that I just noticed that I wrote "I was sneaking about it" instead of "sneaky." Because I'm awesome.
  67. Last night Kyle said that I have lots of jokes. Impromptu jokes. I started telling him that those aren't jokes - that's wit. And then I said, "I'm pretty much a . . . humorous . . . genius." Yeah, couldn't think of the word "comedic." That's how witty my tongue is.
  68. The folky music I've been into lately. Wilco. Brandi Carlile. The Mountain Goats. Nick Drake. Sufjan Stevens.
  69. Grammar B! (Don't worry about it. It's happy. And the reason that reading this blog is - hopefully - fun.)
  70. The fact that the song "Shankill Butchers" doesn't scare me, even though it would have a LOT when I was little. I have progressed!
  71. My social dance class is doing a cha-cha to "Thriller." Really.
  72. Jennie and I went to see Becoming Jane and bought lots of food and it was happy. Also, James McAvoy.
  73. I went to Psycho Manor with my friend Sheldon after the movie with Jennie, and it was basically hysterical (except when it was scary, which was pretty much whenever I couldn't see what was ahead of me. I am a really big wimp in the dark and unknown.) Our favorite part was what we referred to as "the womb." Feel free to ask for an explanation of this later - I'm pretty sure I can't explain it without using my hands. I did enjoy the Norman Bates references quite a lot in light of my recent viewing of the movie.
  74. Lindsey is right. James McAvoy deserves his own number.
  75. I am a force to be reckoned with when it comes to obscure music identification. It may be a useless skill, but every once in awhile it makes me impressive. Thanks to my brothers (particularly Ty and Treb in this instance) for making me a freak in this department.
  76. President Eyring!
  77. Savannah was laughing and smiling at me when she saw me tonight instead of running away in fear.
  78. Hot chocolate weather is officially here.
  79. Lindsey told me about her Halloween costume today, and I'm already excited for the pictures.
  80. I took my conference notes in my giant journal in marker. I kept making Miri throw me more colors. Krissie thinks this will help me remember it better. "That's right! I took notes on her talk in pink, 'cause she's a girl."
  81. I have a really long assignment that I need to work on tonight - an assignment I procrastinated all weekend. BUT, my procrastination made possible a Brian Reagan quote, which is ALWAYS a good thing. "Oh no. It's due tomorrow. I had all weekend (semester) to prepare - I did nothing."
  82. I have a rap version of Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven ("Mr. Raven," by MC Lars) sitting in my inbox right now, and Treb sent me a whole bunch of Nick Cave's "murder ballads" last night, so my Halloween mix is now almost done!
  83. The conversation in the comments here between Treb and Miri.
  84. The fact that I just found a song called "The Wolf that Lives in Lindsey" (take that Lin!) by Joni Mitchell. I haven't listened to it yet, but I think with a title like that, it must be quality. Google, my friends, is an amazing thing.
  85. I finally get to see Serenity this weekend!
  86. Miri's suggestion that the reason we've both had nights when we couldn't sleep until about 4am was that there could be something in the air . . . like pollen. Radioactive pollen.
  87. Krissie's best friend had a baby last night!
  88. Miri liked this idea and copied it on her blog. More lists for everyone!
  89. There are a LOT of comments on this post! True, they are from the same 3(?) people, but it looks like a lot of people are reading.
  90. I got to blow bubbles with Ethan for half an hour today, and I got paid for it.
  91. The drought is broken! (You know the one I'm talking about.)
  92. Jennie's cute blue polka dot shirt, which I borrowed last week and love. Also, Jennie.
  93. Todd, Jonathan, The Bass, and Jason came to visit us last night!
  94. Elder Scott "going Elder Maxwell on us." (You know. The cosmos and all.)
  95. Carrie leaves for England TOMORROW!!!
  96. Apparently I am in line to inherit Treb's vast fortune someday.
  97. There was something on my iPod that my sister in law actually liked! ("Dark Blue" by Jack's Mannequin, in case you wondered.)
  98. I didn't have to buy my own lunch today. ;)
  99. Marci, in general, is a fabulous roommate, and I'm not sure that I've mentioned her yet, so just in case, she definitely makes me happy.
  100. Elder Uchtdorf's reasons to rejoice, which I was going to quote here, but can't because the transcripts of talks from conference don't go up until Thursday, and I don't have time to listen to the whole thing again. (I just checked. Sorry.) But you probably know what I mean, or can find out.
Yay! Thank you all for staying with me for the first 100 posts, and for coming back to this one even though it took me several days to finish. Now . . . to my homework. :(
