Kristi Carr Smalley (circa 1986-1989)

This was in yearbook club. Kristi apparently didn't want her picture taken while trying to come up with witty photo captions for the GCA Excalibur.

This picture must have been taken right after Kristi got back from Hawaii.

Seriously, how did all that hair fit in the picture? I believe this was at one of the famous GCA pep rallies.

Could I get more bangs on my head and why did I think that bow around my neck looked good?

My high school graduation. Kristi came back after being at Liberty for 2 years. She was the cool college girl...but was that hair REALLY cool???

My boy

UPDATE AT END OF POST!!!!

It sounds like Donna and I had the same idea today...for some reason, rain makes us want to bake oatmeal chocolate chip cookies! Max "helped" me, but was more concerned about how long it would take until he could actually put one in his mouth!

Check out Max's MAJOR bedhead - I think he could fly with those wings!

After we made our cookies we went to see Mary, one of Max's physical therapist. Max has been working with Mary since he was one. They worked on balance today. Mary would put a sticker on Max's foot and he would have to lift his foot up and take the sticker off while balancing on one foot. She said he's getting better at it! I always love when Max finishes therapy because he comes running out looking for me - I took my camera today and tried to get a picture of it. I LOVE that boy!

Max and Mary

Just a few more random pics from today. Check out Max's cool tighty whities!

Max did this with his arm and said "take a picture."

BACK VIEW - check out those cheeks!

We go to Max's eye doctor tomorrow. We've been going every 4 weeks lately because Max has been diagnosed with glaucoma/high pressure in his left eye. We've been doing eye drops every morning and night, but they haven't brought the pressure down to where it needs to be. Tomorrow is the day where we will most likely decide to move to the next step if it's still high. The next step would be surgery. He would have it done at Duke by a glaucoma specialist. We've seen her before and she comes with great recommendations.

Just a little history on Max's eye issues. He has very little vision in his left eye. He had ROP(retinopathy of prematurity) laser surgery in both eyes at 4 months old. He then developed a cataract in his left eye as a result of the ROP laser surgery. He had the cataract removed and had to wear a contact up until his glaucoma was diagnosed several months ago (yes, I put in/took out a contact since he was 5 months old-lots of fun). Somewhere along the line the cornea in his left eye began to thicken. We patch his good eye every day so that he is forced to use his left eye in hopes that it will get stronger. He will never have good vision in his left eye, but we just want to get as much as possible. So, that's the 411!

Say a little prayer for us tomorrow morning! :)

UPDATE...
Okay, next time I really need something to happen I'm going to go to my intercessor blog friends...Max got the BEST report we've had since he was originally diagnosed!!!! His pressure was well within the normal range. Don and I were completely shocked and I think the doctor was too. I fully expected to go in there today and talk about when Max would have his surgery. Now, the pressure can constantly change so we're not out of the woods, but at least it's come back down - I'll take that! THANK YOU GUYS for all your sweet comments and for the prayers - they worked! :))))) Here's a picture of him at his appointment this morning.

Hitchhiker missionary???

Church today was really neat. The North American Missions Board commissioned 70 new missionaries/chaplains and they did it at our church. Each person got up and said where they were located and who they were trying to reach with the gospel. I've always thought of missionaries as people who move to Africa, but these people are all across the US and Canada.

Anyway, our neighbors (who are in our Sunday school class) actually had a dessert "meet and greet" last night with one of the missionary couples. We were not able to attend, but I heard about it this morning. Okay, check this out - this guy is a "hitchhiker" missionary. Yep - you heard me. He lives in the LA area and hitchhikes around the LA highways. If he gets picked up by a non-believer then he witnesses to them. If he gets picked up by a Christian then he moves on to the next car. Now - does this sound strange to anyone else? It's definitely innovative, but is it safe?

Another funny story...my neighbor, Brentley, said that at the end of the evening everyone gathered in a circle while the hitchhiker missionary prayed - close to a 15 minute prayer. Well, her little 4 year old daughter was getting a little impatient - after about 10 minutes of prayer she just blurted out "AMEN." Brentley said she about died - I thought it was hilarious!

Note to self

Always remember to take your son's pull-up out of his pajamas before you put them in the washing machine. Otherwise, you will end up with a pull-up that weighs 10 lbs and that has exploded all over your dark clothes.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Well, this hasn't been your typical Valentine's Day for me - Don flew to San Antonio early this morning and I've been home with my sick son (I did leave the house once to take him to the doctor). But, Don and I did celebrate Valentines a few days early so it's all good!

Our super quick trip to Nashville was just that - super quick! We left Tuesday afternoon about 4:00 and got back last night about 10:15. The trip home last night got a little stressful when we went through the NC mountains on icy roads - can you say 2 mph with semi trucks all around you?? I think it took 10 years off my life! We stayed in Knoxville on Tuesday night and went to one of Don's favorite restaurants. Don went to law school at UT so we go there several times a year for football games and to see friends. I love Knoxville - such a cool college town!

Have any of you guys been to a small town funeral in the hills of Tennessee? If not, then it's something you need to do. I swear it felt like I was in a Saturday Night Live skit several times. Now, don't get me wrong, this lady was a wonderful woman and so sweet to me, but some of the things that happened yesterday made me chuckle. For instance...

**Why do old ladies always feel the need to stand by the casket and say "Doesn't she look pretty?"

**The words "mama" and "bubba" were used probably 50 times in the eulogy.

**The sweet preacher who did the funeral was 80+ years old. He told several stories and I don't think he ever once mentioned Don's aunt - I think he must have forgotten what funeral he was doing.

Anyway, here are just a few pictures from the past few days. Hope everyone has had a great day with your Valentine!

Don eating his favorite peanut butter pie in Knoxville.

Here's Don with his 90 year old grandmother.

Poor Max...this cookie is all he got for Valentines and it's not even pink or red - the store only had yellow ones. Please notice the snot running from his nose.

This is for my Valentine! I've been wearing this shirt on Valentine's Day for the past 3 years, but since I didn't really go anywhere today a picture is all I got! I love you honey!

On the road again

We're taking off for Nashville this afternoon. Don's great aunt passed away so we are going up there for the funeral. She was 81 and was such a sweet lady. Anyway, I'll check all your blogs when I return and hope that I didn't miss any exciting posts! I hope I don't get the "shakes" from not being able to get on the computer!

FYI - I went to the gym yesterday and I'm feeling the pain today. Although, because of our trip I won't be able to go back for several days. I sure hope I don't fall off the wagon...

Just another Sunday evening...

I'm back to blog world! Where have I been you ask...well, on Thursday and Friday I went to see a friend in Charleston. For some reason when I got back I just didn't do much blogging. So, I've got a lot of reading to do tonight!

Is anyone else watching the Grammys? Why are those people so weird? I swear - some of the outfits they wear are unreal. Oh, and did you see Cher? She has made some plastic surgeon a really rich man - if you know what I mean. Oh wait, Brad Paisley is singing one of my favorite country songs - it's called "I'd like to check you for ticks."

Max's school had a Valentine's dance this past Friday - hilarious! Check out Melissa's blog to see a picture of him dancing. Too cute!

Okay, tomorrow is the big day...I'm going to the GYM (I hope my card still works). Last year (notice I said last YEAR), I was hooked on this class called "Tread and Shed." It's an hour long cardio workout on the treadmill. The teacher has you walk, then do sprints, then walk on a high incline, and also walk backwards - crazy. So, as of 9:30 tonight I am planning on going. Why do I do this to myself? I work out for several months and get to a point where I'm feeling good and seeing results - and then I stop - WHY? I just wish it was in my blood to exercise. Unfortunately, the only thing in my blood right now is that #2 mammoth Reeses peanut butter heart I just ate...

BUSTED!

Okay girls, my husband found me out!

I really don't try and keep secrets from him, but for some reason I didn't want to tell him or my family I had a blog. I think I did that because I was going to use my blog as more of a journal and the last thing I wanted was my family heckling me about my inner most thoughts (I've got you guys to do that).

Anyway, I decided this weekend that I would tell him (I spend a lot of time on the computer at night so I didn't want him to think I had a cyber boyfriend). So, I said "Honey, I've been holding out on you about something - do you want to know what it is?" Well, that little stinker already knew! By the way, HI DON!

So, just as an FYI, please refrain from trash talking my husband. BUT, feel free to say what a wonderful person I am and how lucky he must feel to have me as his wonderful, devoted and loving wife.

Here are a few pictures from the past couple of days. We went to the circus on Thursday night with my sister's family and my mom. On Saturday, a friend and her daughter went with me and Max to eat lunch. Now, this wasn't your quick jaunt to the local McDonalds. No, we drove an hour just to get to this hole-in-the-wall "meat and three" joint. They have the BEST fried chicken and the best sweet tea in the world (my hips thanked me all the way home). Then Sunday afternoon, my sister had a surprise birthday party for my niece, Lily, who is turning 8 tomorrow. The party was at my mom's house so we just stayed there and hung out for the Super Bowl. I "staged" a few pics of my family watching the Super Bowl - who knew they could be such good sports!

Hope everyone has a great week!
