Paris + Kristi = BFF!

Paris is starting a new t-shirt trend dedicated to her friend (and mine too), KRISTI!!! I don't agree with this chick on much, but I'm with her on this one.

By the way, that's Mike (Kristi's husband) with the sunglasses and hat. He's obviously behind (no pun intended) all of this.

P.S. Although this post is on the humorous side, I will say that Kristi deals with MS (multiple sclerosis) on a daily basis and I know she would be thrilled if one day MS was completely erased! Kristi - please don't be mad at me for posting this...I know you don't want people worried about you, but I also want everyone to know what a brave girl you are! :)

Long time no blog

I've been a little unmotivated to blog this week....sometimes, believe it or not, the computer starts to get on my nerves. So, I'm back, but with nothing really exciting to write about. We had to go downtown last night so Don could pick up his packet for a bike ride he did this morning. It was a beautiful night so we just decided to eat dinner down there and walk around a little bit. Clay spent the night with us so Max was in hog heaven! Here are a few pics...

Don's really not dragging Clay and Max...he was doing the "1,2,3 JUMP" thing. We ran into our friends, Curt and Sherry. FYI - Don and I set them up on a blind date and now they've been married 9 years with two kiddos! The two blonde kids in the middle are theirs...We took the boys for a trolley ride around town. It was gorgeous outside - low 80's and not a cloud in the sky!Okay, the boys were up at 6:30 this morning - fun. We went to Krispy Kreme where we ate some doughnuts and watched them being made. I can remember going to this same store as a little girl...that pretty much makes it a historical landmark here in Greenville.
And here are just a few cute pictures of Max from last week. We were at the local middle school's spirit fest with my sister and her family.

Sand Gnats star player...Clay Smith!

While my sister was out gallivanting around town last Thursday, I took my nephew and niece to Clay's T-ball game. I tell you what, someone has to watch out for these poor children...

"So guys, what's the game plan today?"
Check out that form!Brady found a caterpillar and everyone gathered around to check it out. Notice how Clay (#8) is standing back - he's not an insect lover! Miss Lily...probably singing a Hannah Montana song. Max was more interested in playing in the sand than watching the Sand Gnats play.I decided to throw in a few snapshots of my boy...you know, for good measure.

My husband left this newspaper flyer and note by my purse. I think he must want these flip flops.

Deep thoughts by Max

I know you must get bored hearing silly things Max says, but if I don't write them down here then I'll forget them. So please indulge me for a moment.

We were in the grocery store on Monday and I was looking for marshmallows (you know the whole Rice Krispies Treat attack I had). There were the big marshmallows and there were little marshmallows. Max said "I want the BITTY BITTY marshmallows that Lily and Clay have at their house." I think he meant to say itty bitty.

I was in my bathroom getting dressed and Max was in my bedroom being kind of quite. I stuck my head out to check on him and he was looking at a picture of me and Don from our dating days. He asked me "where was I in that picture?" I told him he hadn't been born yet. Well, I don't think he got it because he asked me again where he was in the picture. So, I just said that he was still in heaven with Jesus. He looked at me and said "I don't want to be in heaven without you and Daddy." It literally brought tears to my eyes because I thought to myself that I didn't want to be without him either. Gosh, makes me tear up again just writing this down. I love that boy so much.

I picked Max up from school today and when I went in his room one of the little boys, Nicholas, came over and gave me a hug. He also told me that he had gone to the hospital. Max's teacher just laughed and said that it was some sort of doctor's appointment. Well, Max and I then went to Tito's (our favorite pizza joint) to meet Daddy for a late lunch. Don and I started asking Max about his day at school and Max said "Nicholas went to the hospital." I asked him why Nicholas went to the hospital and guess what Max said? "His pee-pee was hurting." I then asked him if Nicholas got a shot and Max said yes. OUCH!

Okay, back to American Idol...

Rice Krispies Treats

I LOVE Rice Krispies Treats!

My mom use to make Rice Krispies Treats a lot when I was young and then my sisters and I took over the job as we got older. We had bake sales all the time when I was in elementary school and the only thing I ever bought was RKTs. I'm sure you can imagine how happy I was when they finally came out with the prepackaged kind years ago...much to my dismay, they just didn't taste like the ones you made at home - they were too sugary and didn't taste fresh.

As the years went by I made RKTs less and less - I guess I was focusing on other things like dating, then finding a husband and convincing him to marry me and then making babies. Speaking of babies...I spent the 4 days before Max was born on bed rest in the hospital. Don, my mom, sisters, mother-in-law and friends were taking care of me and trying to keep me comfortable, but as you know, hospital food is definitely not delish. The ONLY thing I could think of that sounded good to me was...you guessed it...Rice Krispies Treats! So, my sweet sister Kim, who had flown in from Chicago, made RKTs for me at my other sister's house and brought them to the hospital. I ate every single one of them. And that was the last time I had homemade RKTs until....

I was at the grocery store yesterday and was going down the cereal aisle. My eyes just happened to catch a glimpse of a Rice Krispies box and all the memories came flooding back. I grabbed the mega box and then rushed over to the next aisle and found the marshmallows. And, this morning at 8:30 am I made Rice Krispies Treats for the 1st time since before Max was born.
He LOVED them!!! A few comments I heard from him this morning were "they're sticky....yummy....can I have some more krispie marshmallow treats?" So, it looks like Rice Krispies Treats are B-A-C-K with a capital B!!

P.S. I just remembered that Max and I have eaten the RTKs at Fuddruckers and they're almost as good as the homemade kind...almost.

Impact Greenville

Don, Max and I were part of Impact Greenville today which meant we were hanging out at an assisted living home this morning - not our typical Saturday morning but fun nonetheless!

Our church designates one day a year where groups go out and do community service in the Greenville area. This was our first year participating and we're glad we did. Some groups did yard work for senior citizens, some did painting at non-profit agencies, and our Sunday School class decided to go to an assisted living home and spend time with the residents. Let me just tell you, it doesn't take much to make those people happy. They were content to sit in their wheelchairs and watch all of our kids play and they loved telling us about themselves. I met one lady whose husband was the mayor of Greenville back in the late 70's. She was so cute because you could tell she was so proud of him.

Max had a ball with the other children and even had Spiderman painted on his face. He didn't do much talking with the residents, but they all thought he was a cutie. One lady loved his glasses and kept saying "oh, poor thing." So sweet.

Here's me with the "mayor's wife". Please notice the man behind me. I think he slept in that chair the entire time we were there - that will be Don in about 40 years.

This sweet man also loved Max's glasses. He told Max that they looked alike. Don kept trying to talk to him, but the poor guy just couldn't hear him or understand what he was saying.

Sweet Will

My friend and Max's speech therapist, Melissa, had her baby boy yesterday afternoon...and she already has a post and pictures up on her blog! Now that's one dedicated blogger!

Check out her sweet and ADORABLE little boy, Will. He came 4 weeks early and weighed in at a hefty 5 lbs 8 oz. Such a cutie!

Congratulations Melissa and Mark!

P.S. Max was not even 2 when Melissa started working with him. She took a special interest in our boy and got him talking soon thereafter. We are so thankful for Melissa and everything she has done for Max - she's the BOMB!

Thanks guys!

So many of you prayed for me yesterday so I want to say thanks for the prayers and thanks for checking in on me! The surgery went well but I'm just really sore at the incision sites. I did have to go back to the hospital last night about 12:30 because of a small complication, but they fixed it and we were back home by 2:00 (even after we went to Wendy's and got me a hamburger and fries - I hadn't eaten since Monday night and I was STARVING!). Don and I both said that was a record time for an emergency room visit!

Don has been a great nurse and has taken really good care of me. I told him last night that he's really putting those marriage vows to use - he said it was payback time since I've taken care of him when he had several knee and back surgeries. :) He's leaving for work in about an hour and is going to take me to my parent's house. Yep, at the age of 37 this girl still likes her mama to take care of her when she's not feeling well!

Again, thanks for all your sweet comments and emails. Have a great day!

High School Reunion

It's a rainy Saturday night, Don is in Charleston (Cooper River Bridge Run) and Max is in bed. So, guess what thought-provoking reality TV show I'm watching?? High School Reunion. If you've never seen this show, it's about a group of people from the class of 1987 who are put together for 2 weeks in a Hawaii beach house. They have labels for everyone - the geek, the jock, the popular girl, etc. By the way, the "popular girl" has been married and divorced four times - see, being popular in high school ain't all it's cracked up to be!

Let's just say that this show is making me have MAJOR flashbacks to high school. In fact, the high school in this show is JJ Pearce which was down the road from my high school in Garland, TX. And, most importantly, they're playing all the best songs from the late 80's - we're talking Genesis, Def Leppard, Journey, INXS - awesome!

So, in honor of the late 80's I present to you my 1988 homecoming picture...

Per Kristi's request

What was I doing and why were his security men looking at me like that?
Okay, that's it...that's my claim to fame (if you can call it that). Anyone want to top me with a picture of them and Brad Pitt - I dare you!

TGIF!!!!

Very important question

Not to shower you with TMI (that means "too much information" Mom), but Don and I have been dealing with infertility issues. Max is 4 1/2 and we would love to have another child, but it just hasn't happened yet. I will be having a minor surgical procedure next Wednesday to hopefully help us along. This will be the 3rd time I've had this procedure and the 1st time I had it done we immediately got pregnant with Max....soooo we're keeping our fingers crossed!

Anyway, I went for my pre-op appointment today. The nurse and the anesthesiologist had to go over what would happen next week and what I needed to do as far as preparations. Been there done that...or so I thought. My doctor is having me do a fast the day before. That means I won't be able to eat solid food from Monday night when I go to bed until Wednesday evening (and then it's only crackers/soup). The nurse and the doctor both went over the list of what I could eat/drink - jello, broth, coffee, water, strained orange juice (pulp is disgusting so no problem there), tea, and any other clear liquid I can find. This is not going to be fun (Muffin, can you even imagine???). But, on the positive side, I'm hoping that 3-5 lbs will have left me when it's all said and done.

After they finished their spill they asked if I had any questions about the surgery or the anesthesia. I told them I only had one question...

Can I have cream in my coffee?

No...bummer.
