Claire turned ONE on October 30! This has been such a fun year for our family.
Stats: Claire has been pretty true to size. Conveniently, she and Elise both wore size 6-12 months during their first summer, so the overlap was perfect! Now that we are well into fall, Claire wears mostly 12-18 month clothes and a size 5 shoe. As of her birthday, she had 5 teeth. At her one year check up, she weighed 19 lbs, 3 oz (20%?) and measured 29.25 inches (75%?).
Eating: We are still nursing 4x/day (morning, before first nap, before second nap, and before bed). Claire has been a little picky about regular food in the last few weeks since she just got her 5th tooth and the 6th is coming right behind it. Her favorite foods that are always a hit are: frozen peas, black beans, cheese, yogurt bites, rice crackers, grilled chicken, sweet potatoes, grapes, and hamburger. She won't eat anything from a spoon unless SHE gets to put the spoon in her mouth, which has successfully worked with thicker foods like guacamole. She refused to partake in her birthday cake and instead ate frozen peas on her tray while the rest of us indulged :)
Sleeping: Claire is a great sleeper like her big siblings. It took about a week after the time change for us to get back on our normal schedule. She is still very attached to the morning nap, which is her longest nap of the day on weekdays. She typically wakes up around 6:45 - 7, eats, then plays in the playroom while I get Jack ready for the day and breakfast on the table. At that point, she munches on something in the booster while the big kids eat. We leave to walk Elise to school at 8:15 and after that we go jogging or take Jack to school, depending on the day. The morning nap starts around 9:15-9:30 and usually lasts for about 2 hours. Claire would really love for her afternoon nap to start around 2, but during the week that isn't an option for us with kindergarten pick up. We usually stop at the playground on the way home and then start her afternoon cat nap. She sleeps from 4-5ish, which is late for an afternoon nap but she still has no problem going to sleep by 7. So it works for us right now :)
Playing: Claire especially loves the pop up toy, the push wagon, the musical table, and her family members. If she can convince someone to walk her around, she's happy as a clam. She recently figured out how to stand herself up in the middle of the room and will take up to 10-15 slow, controlled steps if she's in the mood.
Learning: Claire's first and favorite word is "mama" (9 1/2 months). She also regularly says "stuck" (when she pushes her wagon into an obstacle), "mimi", "book", "ball", "baby", and "cheese". In the weeks following her birthday she's started saying "dada" or "daddy", "mommy", "all done", "jack", and "cracker". She loves to play peekaboo and for the longest time, she would cover her ears instead of her eyes when we said, "Where's Claire?" She understands so much of what we say and can identify many objects, toys, people, etc.
Personality: Claire is SO happy when she sees any of us and is quick to laugh and smile with those she knows :) She gets especially excited when we pick her up from her crib. She loves playing peekaboo (and either pulls her blanket or shirt over her head or ducks up and down around a piece of furniture). She loves to "wrestle" with Daddy and her big siblings. Elise and Jack think it is hilarious that she will just crawl all over them. She does not love going to the church nursery and we're about 50/50 on whether she'll make it through the service or not, even if we got to the late service so that she can get a morning nap. Mike will admit that he doesn't mind at all that she buries her head in his shoulder and clings to him as soon as she realizes she's about to be dropped off... :)
Happy, happy birthday my sweet Claire! You are perfect and beautiful and we adore you!

| Apparently she was not in the mood for a fall photo shoot... or at least for Mommy to set her down and walk away with the camera :) |
