December Fun

I bought the kids these aprons on clearance last year, and I happened to pull them out on the same day that Nicole's vision teacher gave her a gingerbread cookie kit. It turned out to be a great after-school activity! Here's the before picture: And after:

Nicole had her first Dance Recital this week! She did a great job. She stole the show with her spunky personality and funny comments. We're not sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing....

Nicole recently got some play make-up and has been having a great time with it. When her cousin, Kate, came over, she decided to make her beautiful too!

Here is Sydney at 10 weeks old:

Sydney is such a good and happy baby! And doesn't she look so cute in her monkey outfit?!

Sydney's 5th and 6th week

I finally captured one of Sydney's adorable smiles on camera! Here is Sydney trying out her new Bumbo seat. You can see how well she holds her head up for a 5 week old. Her whole body is very strong...kind of freakishly strong, to tell you the truth. We're not sure what that's all about, but you should try getting her dressed...it's nearly impossible to coax her clenched arms into tiny sleeves!
Her big sister had to give it a try, too.

Nana and Grandpa Stephen came for Thanksgiving. Here is Grandpa meeting Sydney for the first time.
Yesterday Sydney was blessed at church. it was a beautiful snowy day (great for pictures...not great for all the family members who couldn't make it because of bad roads!). She was a little angel the whole day, so we think she likes the name she was given in her blessing :) These first pictures were taken outside. As her mommy I was convinced that she'd scream from being so cold, but her Uncle Ben insisted on the wintry photo shoot. You can see in the first one that she was happy and smiling! She started dozing off right after this picture...she definitely didn't mind the cold.
We're so thankful to have such a healthy, happy, beautiful baby girl in our family. We've been able to reflect on our blessings during this week of Thanksgiving, and we have so much to be thankful for.

Thanks to all of our family who helped make this week of Thanksgiving and Sydney's blessing so special. Many of you traveled hundreds of miles and we truly appreciate your love and support of our family!

Here's one last thing to post...Sydney's little surprise for Nana. Enjoy! (You might have to watch/listen a couple times before you can really appreciate the humor.)

NKOTB #1 4-Ever!!!

NKOTB #1 4ever!!! I remember writing that in my friend's yearbook in 1989. Well, I'm happy to tell you that it's true! Those fab 5 still have "the right stuff" 19 years later! This past weekend, my cousin Brittney, my sister Andrea, and I all went to the New Kids On the Block reunion concert here in Denver, 18 years after we hit our first concert at the Marriott Center in Provo. We were 9, 10, and 11 then...now we're 28, (almost) 29, and 30! Wow, how time flies.
So...the concert was FABULOUS! When we got there, there was a problem with our seats, so we complained...and it paid off because they moved us to the 7th row on the floor! We were so close we could see their grey hairs! j/k...but they are all about 40 now, so who knows. Anyway, we had the best night of our lives. It was a great show, and we're so glad we got to experience it together again. NKOTB RULE!

We had a whole slew of people come to help us celebrate the occasion. My Aunt Barbara and Andrea came from SLC, my Aunt Peggy came from NYC, and Brittney, her husband, and kids all came from St. George. It was a fun weekend!
Brittney's daughter, Mea (6) helping Nicole (4) at the pool where she couldn't touch.

Brittney's son, Gavin (6) and Nolan (7) were inseparable the whole weekend. My favorite moment was watching them play spies with full spy gear on. They were hunting for dinosaur tracks all over the house.

Aunt Peggy snuggling with Sydney (5 weeks).

For some reason I have no pictures of Barbara or Dustin or Kiera! Barbara spent most of the weekend bonding with Sydney...let's call her the Baby Whisperer. I'm so sad I didn't think to get a picture of them together.

Thanks for the amazing weekend everyone! It was so fun having you all hang out at our house. Maybe The New Kids will reunite again sometime and we can do it all over again :)

Sydney's 2nd and 3rd weeks

Here are a few shots from today. Sydney is 3 1/2 weeks old. You can see she's becoming much more alert these days. I almost got her first smile out of her this morning...we're on the brink, I can feel it!

Sydney hasn't had a chance to meet Grandpa Chuck yet, but we know she WILL love him. Who doesn't love Grandpa Chuck?!

And finally that big brother shot I've been trying for:

Sydney has been diagnosed with reflux already, which means she is pretty fussy most nights and has a hard time staying asleep. Yes, this means I am VERY sleep-deprived most days, but I'm learning to cope with it. When she's not in pain with her reflux, she's a very sweet and content baby still! We love having her in our family.

Halloween 2008

Halloween is one of our favorite holidays. Here are the kids all ready for a party at our friend's house.

And here they are all ready for Trick or Treating!
We had a little fun with Nicole's Snow White wig...
This is Kate (cousin).

Nolan refused to try it on, so Dad had to intervene with a few wrestling moves in order to get a picture.

And even Sydney joined in on the fun.

Our two little Disney princess cousins: Nicole and Kate
You can see that Sydney wasn't too fond of her sunflower costume.

She was much more content as a sweet little witch.

We had a great Halloween!

Sydney's First Week

Here is Sydney all ready to leave the hospital.

Nicole LOVES being a big sister. She talks very sweetly to Sydney and loves to hold her. Nolan loves her, too. He calls himself a "Super Duper Big Brother" now that he has two little sisters. I haven't been able to capture a good picture of the two of them together yet, but we'll work on it. Here is the happy big sister:
This is Sydney at 5 days old:

Sydney is one week old today. We gave her her first official bath (she's had sponge baths throughout the week...don't worry, I'm a good mommy). She LOVED her bath.

She got into this trance while she so cutely gripped the washcloth close to her face. It was so funny! She didn't love the getting out and being cold part of bathtime, though. She gave her lungs a good workout while we got her dressed and warmed up again.

Here is our little angel sleeping this morning. So far she is the best-behaved baby we've ever met. She's giving me grief with nursing, though, but hopefully we'll get the issues resolved soon. It's been a really fun week having a new baby in our family. My mom is here helping me, and I'm so glad. It's enabled me to rest and focus on getting the nursing on track.

Nolan's Field Day and 7th Birthday

A couple weeks ago, Nolan had his first school Field Day. Check out his long jump:

This is Nolan's 1st Grade Class:
On October 3rd, Nolan turned 7! We celebrated by going to Mr. Bigg's that afternoon. He chose to play laser tag with his cousins and had a blast. They also got to play a few video games at the arcade.

The next day Nolan had a sports party with some of his friends from school at our rec center.

While Grandma and Grandpa Miller were on their mission, Nolan discovered his love for carrot cake. I told him that Grandma Dorothy makes the best carrot cake in the world, and he decided that was what he wanted for his birthday cake (which was 8 months away at the time). Grandma decided to play a joke on him and made him a Bugs Bunny cake with a carrot on it, and when he saw it she said, "Here's your cake with a carrot on it...isn't that what you wanted?" He was very polite and didn't want to hurt her feelings, so he slowly nodded his head, but we could see the disappointment in his eyes. She told him she was just teasing, that it was a real carrot cake, and he thought it was pretty funny. He agreed that it was delicious. And I owe Dorothy a huge thanks for making Nolan's cake this year (she took pity on me after seeing the dowels holding up Nicole's cake...and because I was 8 1/2 months pregnant).

We can't believe our little boy is growing up so fast! He's such a great kid and we're proud of him every day.
