2 Months

Today Merek is 2 months old! It is crazy that time has gone by that quickly already. He is such a cute little guy--lots of smiles to everyone. At his Dr. appt. yesterday, he weighed in at 15 lbs. 2 oz. (>95%), was 24 inches long (75-90%), and got 5 immunizations (ouch!). Today I'm washing all the 3-6 months size clothes for him because he is busting out of his 0-3 months apparel. He follows us with his eyes now as we walk by him, kicks his legs up and down, and rubs his eyes with the backs of his hands. He is still eating about every 2 hours and sleeping in 2-hour stretches. He likes music and the sound of mom's hair dryer :)

I took this picture of him on Monday when he was 8 weeks old. He is so adorable!

We had a lot of snow here this past week. Even the mail wasn't delivered a couple of days. The kids went sledding everyday. It has been quite the winter wonderland. However, it started raining last night and about half of the snow is melted now. There is still quite a bit, but it isn't as pretty.

Christmas Drawing

I found this picture on our table the other day. Krish informed me it isn't Santa Claus, it is a boy with a hat at Christmas. :)

Snow Drift

Growing up in central Washington I saw many a snow drifts in our windy winters. Living here near Seattle I didn't think that happened on this side of the mountains. Guess I was wrong. This is what we woke up to this morning:
Our power went out at 9:15pm and came back on about 6:15am. It was a cold night--and we have a frozen water pipe to prove it! :)

Catching up

Here is my little boy smiling at 7 weeks:

He actually has been smiling for a few weeks now and it is so fun to finally have it in a photo!
Lina had her birthday party two weeks ago. It was a candyland theme. The girls decorated gingerbread houses, made dessert pizzas, and played a life-sized Candyland game. At the end of the game, they enter the "Candy Castle" (i.e. puppet theater tent) where there were bowls and jars of different kinds of candy for them to fill their treat bags with. They loved it! One of her friends exclaimed, "This is the BEST party EVER!!"

Our family made a last-minute trip to California last week to visit B's parents and family. We weren't planning to go to Disney but the opportunity came up on Friday so we went. It was a gorgeous day--love the 70 degree weather in December! Since we only had one day and the baby and it was crowded, we let each of the kids pick one ride to go on, plus B and I each picked one as well. We got to stay for the Christmas parade and met Janice and Jim for dinner.

And the last picture--Merek's first visit to the ocean.

Looking at these pictures makes me want to go back to California. The wind is blowing hard outside. Snow is all over the place. But, alas, it IS technically winter today.

Time to lose weight?

So, this past week we made a quick last-minute trip to California. It was a great opportunity for our new baby to meet his dad's side of the family. Anyway, the baby was being a bit fussy for me and after walking around for quite awhile I handed him over to B. Immediately, he calmed down (as usual). Our niece, Heather California, said, "Oh, it must be because his dad is so cushion-y." My SIL elbowed her and told her that probably made Uncle B feel bad. Then our other niece, Sam, chimed in, "He's like that so Aunt Melanie doesn't feel bad."

Hmph--guess we are a little too "cushion-y". Good thing a new year is coming for those never-ending "lose weight" resolutions :)

ps--I promise to post some pictures soon.

pps--Baby at one month: smiling, eating every 1.5-2 hours, sleeps 2-hour stretches at night (if I'm so lucky), 9 lbs. 10 oz., 23 inches, loves to be held by daddy, size 1-2 diapers, wearing 0-3 clothes

Don't want to forget . . .

. . . on the way home from my doctor appointment the baby is screaming so I reach back and stick my finger in his mouth for him to suck on it. Bird asks, "Does your finger have milk in it?"

. . . after weeks of Krish chewing on stuffed animals, blankets, and his shirt collars (and constantly getting scolded for it), it dawned on me to check his mouth. Sure enough lower right adult molar is breaking through the gum. Sorry buddy!

. . . baby following toy Miffy with his eyes as daddy moved it back and forth in front of his eyes.

. . . baby has been smiling for weeks now--it seems so early--in response to us talking to him

Crazy Hair

This morning Bird came in while I was changing the baby. "Hi, Mom" he said. "Good morning" was my reply, without looking at him. "Look! I have crazy hair today!" he said. Then he went over to the armoire and checked himself out in the mirror. "It's spiky. Can you clean it?" he asked. He kept asking me to "clean" it and was getting quite worried when it didn't happen right away. Thankfully, dad came to rescue with some water and a comb.

And just some other random things:
DH is home for the whole month of December. His employer gives 4 weeks of paternity leave, plus he has some vacation days to use up. It's really nice having him home, though I definitely have realized I have a daily routine that is hard to change. He has been doing lots of the laundry. The other day I was feeling ok and put a load of clothes in the dryer while he was putting the kids to bed. "Oh, are you ready to do laundry again?" he asked, a little too innocently. Dang! I shouldn't have been feeling so helpful.
Our Thanksgiving at mom and dad's was fabulous! 23 people in all at the meal with Grandma Marge there. We giggled when she asked what a "blog" was. Some news show she watches said to post comments on their blog. It took about 30 minutes of explaining to her about the internet, email, blogs, etc. I'm not sure she still understands. But that is ok--somethings are better not to have to worry about at 86 years of age.
I don't know how mom handles having 22 people in her house for 4 days but she is amazing. The food was delicious! Grandma Marge even asked for 2nd's of my sweet potatoes! That put a sly smile on my face. Brad and Scott led the older kids in a few quarters of football for the annual Turkey Bowl. It was freezing outside but they all really enjoyed themselves. Krish even got a shiner from Tanner's elbow. Sweet!
The baby ended up getting the cold all four other kids have had these past few weeks. Poor little guy! He is so stuffy and has started coughing now. I thought I was being so diligent with the hand sanitizer! Guess when you live in a house with 6 other people it's hard for germs not to be spread--but, hey, I haven't gotten the cold yet :) (I'm sure my time will arrive soon enough . . .)
Brad and the boys went hiking today up by Rattlesnake Ridge with our neighbors, Doug and Ben. It is chilly outside but the sun is shining--such a blessing for wintertime here.
