Ratholes...

As one would expect from a boy of 5 years, Keegan has a fascination with castles. He loves the towers, turrets, keeps, ramparts...and especially the dark tunnels and dungeons that make up the foundations of most castles. We named these intriquing places 'ratholes' which Keegan day after day said was his favorite parts of each castle that we visited. Every morning, we would be greeted with the excited request to seek out some new 'ratholes' on our daily excursions. On one occasion, he was even so bold as to ask our tour guide when these parts of the castle were not readily accessible, "Where are the ratholes?"

Below are examples from Keegan's favorite...Burg Rheinfels...a towering ruin above St. Goar and once the largest castle on the Rhine.

Best Welcome Ever...

I just had to post a picture of the sign that my nephew Keegan made to welcome us to Germany for the first time (I don't count airport layovers). It was a great welcome after such a long flight. It is now hanging pride of place on our refrigerator. Thanks Keegan!!

Louvre à nuit (vendredi le 2 novembre)...

After a wasted trip to the Gare de Lyon, John and I decided to make use of our return metro ticket by overshooting the stop near our apartment and wisking a little further down ligne 1 to Place de la Concorde. Strolling back towards le Marais, we decided to venture into the inner court of the Louvre. Although it was getting late into the evening, the museum was open late since it was Friday. Taking in the beautifully lit architecture, I got inspired to to take some nighttime photos (which seems to be my thing lately). I have collected some of the best for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!
