soccer season

soccer is kaleb's best sport because it requires high energy and constant moving around. perfect for him.

getting ready to start.

standing there giggling to himself while i am yelling for him to, "run. go. get the ball. do something."

he is funny to watch. when he is focused on the game he is the best kid on the field. but that only happens about 30% of the time. the rest of the time he giggles and runs and kicks the ball and giggles and stops to pick some grass and make a bird's nest and runs and purposely falls and yells help! and gets up and kicks the ball out of bounds and giggles and ask for a drink and kicks the ball and then high fives the whole team.

something like that.

5 year olds playing soccer is fun and funny. and painful to watch. at least it's better than t-ball though.

paint...

obviously not the best idea i have ever had...i walk away for two seconds and she does this:

lyla saying, "clean dis up mom"
see all that paint in my tile grout? that was fun.
oh and my favorite lyla dress...stained. ruined. sadness.

see the black paint on the neck of his cutest shirt? (of course the apron stayed totally paint free.)
yeah, it doesn't wash out. who makes paint that isn't washable these days. honestly.

needless to say i hid the paints. in the garbage can.

first day of kindergarten

kaleb is in kindergarten this year and he is so excited to go to the big school.

here he is on the first day all ready to go:

we are lucky to live only a couple blocks from the school so he can ride his bike or his scooter to school. he chose to scoot to school on the first day! oh and note the backpack. he was so excited when he found a mario backpack! mario is his latest obsession. {sigh}

here he is at his seat ready to start class. i felt so dumb with my camera out taking pictures of him but as soon as i started snapping them ALL the other parents pulled their cameras out too! it was funny.

every day he has stories to tell me about school. my favorite is when he tells me that the whole class had to put their heads on their desk with the lights out for a minute so they could "see what quiet sounds like". i totally remember having to do the same thing as a kid. i would seriously love to be a fly on the wall and watch how funny he is at school.

i am so proud of him and can't believe how big and grown up he is getting. love him mucho.

end of summer

pre-post note (did that make sense?): none of these pictures have grant in them and i feel bad. sorta.

our summer seemed to go by way too fast and like every summer, i wish that i had taken the kids out more and done more fun things. we did do some fun things at home though and the kids had a great summer!

lyla, kaleb, jett and cohen.
my friend janae brought one of those giant slides over and the kids played for a few hours and loved it!!

summer rain. love it.

lyla dancing at the summer concert at university mall. we went to about 3 of these free concerts and it was a blast. i hope they do them again next year.

kaleb liked to "fly" down the road with his cape. he was so excited about the cape flowing out behind him that he asked if he could fly all the way to grandma's house. i let him. it's only 2 blocks away.

and then this happened...gross right?

here's the story about the staples...

we have these 3 tile stairs...super sharp edged tile stairs...in our house leading down into our family room and kaleb was trying to jump on top of one of those giant balls that you are supposed to sit on and bounce. of course the ball is right by the stairs of death and it rolls out from under him taking his legs with it. his head goes straight into the stair and then i hear screaming and run in to see kaleb rubbing his head and corey picking him up. kaleb moves his hand off his head it is covered in blood. kaleb freaks. corey freaks just a little. and i call the doctor. numbing gel apparently doesn't work on kaleb so the poor kid felt all 5 of these staples going into his head but he held so still and was so brave. it was a cool battle wound to show his new kindergarten class though!!

i love summer but i am glad it's done and we are starting a new school year. i can't believe kaleb is in kindergarten. more pics on the first day to come soon!
