an afternoon call

Song: Hey there Delilah – Plain White T’s
Book: Health Today March 2008

I was just getting into d mood of arranging all d receipts dat got piled up for the past --- months when I received a call fr my one of my mentees, NMS. Wonder what she want dis time??
Turned out it wasn’t her but her close fren, AA. I remember NMS mentioned last Friday dat AA also applied for the Shell scholarship. NMS got cgpa 4.00 last sem & AA got 3.98 or somewhere around dat numbr.
Anyways, AA has a problem in filling up the scholarship form. She’s not sure what to put of her father’s occupation. Her parents had divorced & they’d actually sort of… lost contact with the father. The last time they were together she said the father worked on his own, but to put that on paper wud require a statement/guarantee/confirmation letter (surat pengesahan- cant really think rite now-wat d’u call it really?) wic, without the presence of the father himself, wud be impossible.
In my mind; “ what? AA parents had divorced? Her mother’s the one who support the family? Her father didn’t contact them at all? she deserves the scholarship! Such a bright child…poor AA..”
Her mother suggested that she just put –dash- on the form and attached the divorce letter (is dat what they really call it?) I guess that is best since putting her father’s details there might affect the application whereas it’s apparent that he doesnt play a role anymore in their lives & AA needs financial support to bring her further in her studies.
Well, it’s decided then.
As we ended the call, I totally blamed myself-
“Gosh, why do I only learn of this now? Argh! ure a terrible mentor la NAP! Gotta do something. At least buck up wit the plan I had for so long!” hmm…
*sigh*
