Christmas Photos

Well, we tried to do our own Christmas photos of the kids this year. The following is from my first attempt without John:So, we tried again today, and got a few cute ones.
Here's Ivy:

And Porter:

And the hardest shot of all....both kids together! This isn't my favorite picture, but it's seriously one of the best ones of the two of them. Maybe when they're older we'll be able to get them to both look at the camera and smile at the same time!

It is amazing how many photos you have to take just to get one or two that are good! Not that the kids aren't cute, of course, but they're just so busy! Who has time to sit around and pose for the camera?

Porter's new friend

Porter discovered a new friend in the mirror. He actually played like this for about 10 minutes, it was so cute!

For those of you who hadn't heard, Poter wasn't able to be "snipped" (yeah, you know what I mean) when he was born, so we took him in the other day to get it done. Poor little guy! Since he's an older baby, he had to be under general anesthesia, and he handled it great. The circumcision itself went really well too, so now it's just lots of tylenol. I had no idea that it would be such a big deal, but the whole process made me *SO* thankful that I have had healthy babies. I know there are so many parents out there whose children have lots of health problems, and my heart just goes out to them. It is so scary to put your child in the nurses arms, and just wait to hear that everything went well. So way to go Porter- you did great! And to all of you who ever have a son, make sure they get their circ. done as a newborn, so that it's not a huge hassle when he is older.

My Guilty Pleasure

Yes, it's true. I love Desperate Housewives. I love the drama, probably because my life really doesn't have any (thankfully). I love the clothes, even though I would never actually be able to wear any of them (for various reasons :). I love Bre because she is the controlling, yet extremely talented mommy that I want to be someday. And I especially love the fact that I can get John to watch kids, answer the phone and make up excuses for why I can't talk right now, and clean up messes just so I don't have to miss it. Thanks babe.

Seriously, an update already?

I have a lot to catch up on! The kids and I spent the last 5 weeks or so in Logan with family while John was doing a sub-I at the U in Salt Lake. You would think that with the number of willing babysitters I had that blogging would have been a sinch to get done, but it was amazing how busy we stayed! So I'll just post a bunch of pictures, and make a goal to stay caught up from now on!

Nann and Grampa (my Parents) ready to go their annual Halloween party. Don't they look awesome? Ivy was so intrigued by my Mom's pink hair.

We went to the Pumpkin walk in North Logan with John's Mom. It was great!

At first Ivy was more interested in filling her bucket with leaves than candy. But don' worry, she caught on real quick.

Even superheroes like to eat leaves and grass occasionally.

We threw a baby shower for my cute cousin Brandy. So fun!

Grampa took Ivy on his 4-wheeler. She was pretty nervous at first but after it was over she just wanted to go again.

We didn't get to see a whole lot of our Daddy, so it was super fun when we did.

We actually had 3 Thanksgiving Dinners. One with my whole family (I think we number around 24 or 25 now). One with John' mom, and then we spent Thanksgiving day in Mona with my sister and her family. This pic is of Ivy and Swensen at my sister's house. And Yes, Ivy is eating her roll with a spoon.

Ivy helping me unpack :)

I thought that once we got home Ivy would once again be motivated to use the potty. She knows that when she does, she'll get to wear her big girl panties like Morgan, and Claire, and Liv, and Mya, and Dora the Explorer, and Cinderella and anyone else I can think of. Yet here the panties sit. So hopefully before she starts kindergarten. We'll see.

And last but not least my little master of drool. He had his 8 month b-day while we were in Utah, had his first hair cut, got one tooth, and was incredibly spoiled. At last weight he was 23 pounds, so I'd say he's quite healthy. He's lovin' table foods, and scooting himself around quite aptly on his tummy. He's such a sweet guy!

To John:

Happy 5 year anniversary to my honey! I love you. Thanks for putting up with me for the previous 5 years, and I'll just go ahead thank you for putting up with me for the next 95 while I'm at it. Good luck on your interviews. I can't wait to see you!

I CAN'T WAIT!!!

For all of you who haven't yet, hop on the bandwagon. You know you want to! I am so excited to see Twilight - I am going crazy. I am starting the book again tonight so I can brush up on the details, and have it fresh on my mind when I see it THIS FRIDAY!

We've disappeared

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of posting of late. We are hangin' out in Utah, and I don't know how to use my parent's computer to upload pics. So, once I get it figured out and have a few minutes, I will post some fun pictures of the kids Halloween, and an update on what we have been up to.

Ivy's latest

Our little Ivy is quite the toddler these days. She is full of attutude. Everything is "MINE!". A few days ago she and Porter were having lunch, and when Porter's food ran out, let's just say he was less than pleased. So of course he was screaming, and I was trying to hurry and get him cleaned up. Meanwhile Ivy had gotten her foot stuck in-between the bars on the back of her chair, and started freaking out, and was really trying to out-do Porter's screams. Then suddenly she stopped, looked at Porter and yelled, "NO PORTER! I'M SAD!!!" As if only one of them can be sad at a time. Ha, I wish.

Just in case you were wondering...

I have had a lot of people ask me lately what John is up to these days, so I thought I'd just tell you all! Anyway, John is in his 4th and last year of medical school (Wahoo). Which means that he graduates in May and then we will be off to general surgery residency which will last 5-6 years. He is in the process of setting up interviews, and out of the 39 programs he applied to, he has recieved interview offers at somewhere around 22 so far (We will not be accepting them all). What a smarty I am married to! He also took the written part of the board exam (step 2) yesterday, and is relieved that part is over. He flies to Houston next week to take the practical part of the exam, and hopefully get in some relaxing time by the pool. He has done so well and I am so proud of him! Go John!

Family Photos

Our wonderful and very talented friend Teri was kind enough to take some family photos for us yesterday, and they turned out great! We warned her ahead of time that we are really awkward and un-natural in front of the camera, so she just let us play with the kiddos, and we actually had lots of fun. These are a few of my favorites, and you can see more here: http://picturethisphotographybyteri.blogspot.com/
Thanks Teri!

So what's new?

Porter has recently mastered the art of sitting up. He loves to be able to see what's going on, and especially loves to watch Ivy. She just makes him crack up. He has the cutest little giggle, and it makes her feel very special and important!
One of Ivy's favorite things to do is......well.......anything Porter gets to do. Including playing in the crib. So she was playing in the crib the other day and wanted Porter to get in with her. The first thing she did once I put him in with her was lie down right next to him, and cover them both up with a blanket. So cute.
I have to look at pictures like this when Ivy is in one her "naughty" phases. Doesn't she just look so sweet and innocent? She has been such a little stinker lately, but I know deep down in there is a happy and charming little child!

Boring

I realize my blog has been really dull lately, and this post is no different. What are you supposed to blog about when the major events in your life consist of one child getting a new package of elmo panties, and the other child graduating from rice cereal only to oatmeal cereal, sweet potatoes and green beans. Wahoo!!! I did manage to ruin an entire batch of white laundry along with the dryer by sending one of John's pens through. Oops. That one was partly his fault too, I guess. Why can't men just empty their pockets? Anyway, I did get to go on an oldnavy.com shopping spree to replace the things that got ruined (and don't worry- I added on a few extras too). So stay tuned to the Wennergren family blog, just in case anything exciting should happen, but don't count on it!

Daddy's little girl

Ivy loves her Dad so much, and he loves to play silly little girl games with her. The other day at work I had a client who has 3 little girls, and he told me how lucky my husband must feel to have a son. And I explained that yes, John is so proud to have a "little man" to pass on the family name, (guys have a thing about that) but he absolutely adores his little princess. It is great to watch John play with both of his kids, and to see how much fun they have with him! Every time Porter sees John he gets a great big smile on his face and gets so excited. I'm so thankful to have such a great hubby who is also a fabulous daddy!

Just a little humor.......

Proud to Be a Democrat
A first grade teacher in the Midwest is explaining to her class that she is a Republican and how nice it is that a new Republican president has taken office. She asks her students to raise their hands if they, too, are Republicans and support George Bush. Everyone in class raises their hands except one little girl. "Mary," says the teacher with surprise, "why didn't you raise your hand?" Because I'm not a Republican," says Mary. "Well, what are you?" asks the teacher. "I'm a Democrat and proud of it," replies the little girl. The teacher cannot believe her ears. "My goodness, Mary, why are you a Democrat?" she asks. "Well, my momma and papa are Democrats, so I'm a Democrat, too." "Well," says the teacher in an annoyed tone, "that's no reason for you to be a Democrat. You don't always have to be like your parents. What if your momma was a criminal and your papa was a criminal, too, what would you be then?" Mary smiled. "Then we'd be Republicans."

Our baby is 2!!!!!!!

Our pretty birthday girl Ivy

I swore I would never do a character birthday party for my kids, but Ivy just loves Dora so much, how could I resist?!?! Do you think she looks excited about her cake?

We have the best friends in the world! Thanks guys for coming to celebrate with us!
Just a cute picture of the babies. Cute Joshua is on the left, Porter in the middle, and Porter's girlfriend Lucia on the right (are arranged marriages really a thing of the past?).

We had some fantastic rain in Denver this week and Ivy loved it! She would have stayed out there for hours if we had let her!

Porter had his first taste of cereal on Sunday. He thought it was pretty great. We were starting to worry about his weight, so we figured it was time for us to feed him a bit more ;) hahaha

This is a video of Ivy "reading" to Porter. I saw her doing this, and then had to sort-of hide with the camera so that she wouldn't see me. So it's not very good quality, but you get the idea!

The Naked Chef

My mom came to visit last week and decided to be brave and start potty training Ivy. Well, I guess Ivy really decided she was ready, and my Mom is just better at reading the clues than I am. But anyway, needles to say, she spent quite a few days running around the house naked. However, she had gotten a new kitchen for her birthday (we gave it to her early), and she just has to wear her apron when she's "cooking". So this was just too funny to not take a picture.

Wow!

I can hardly believe it, but John and I got engaged 5 years ago! Whoa! The time has flown by, and it has been a great 5 years. Sorry to be cheesy for a moment, but I just have to tell him that I love him SO much! You're the best, babe! I'm so glad I said yes!

Update

I know, I know...... Where have we been? Summer has been a crazy time for us! John is getting ready to finish up his first surgers sub-i (internship) this weekend, just to begin another on Monday. He loves surgery, but the days are long, and there's not a lot of time off to be had! So we sometimes feel like a single-parent-household. I (Natalie) have decided to go back to work part-time. I am working at Massage Envy, which is a massage clinic where I get to just go and do my massages and then go home, without having to worry about any of the business end of massage. So it's going to be really good for me, but I was sad to leave my kids! My friend Samantha and I are going to be trading babysitting one day a week, so I'll have her 2 kids every Monday, and she'll take mind every Friday which will be fun for Ivy. We are also doing a little Joy School with Ivy and some other little kids her age in our ward (pictures to come). We are trying to learn our letters, but it's really more like just an organized play group! The kids have fun, and we get to teach them what it's like to have structured activities! Other than that Ivy and Porter are just growing and changing every day! I am having lots of fun with them. Porter weighed in at 16 pounds and some ounces at his 4 month doctors visit, and is rolling both ways now. Ivy will turn 2 next month and is a very sweet, but very typical 2-year-old. She is always striving for independence! So all-in-all, we are doing well and everybody is happy and healthy! Stay tuned for more!

My new neice!!!!!!!

My Brother Ryan and his wife Melanie had a sweet new baby girl today. Her name is Avery, and I just think she is BEAUTIFUL! She reminds me a bit of Ivy when she was brand new. Welcome to the world little one! I can't wait to meet you!

Whoa there!

Our little porker Porter is growing into a big boy! Our friends Darren and Crystal have a little girl named Lydia who is a month older than Porter, and she still just looks like a newborn little baby next to him! Porter is definitely not missing any meals! He is in size 2 diapers, and in 6 month clothes. We pretty much just skipped the 3-6 month size. But he is such a good baby, and we are having so much fun with him! We love our chubby little boy!

The Outer Banks

We just got back from our FABULOUS vacation to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We went for a family reunion with my Dad's side of the family, and it was so fun. The weather was perfect, and there was so much to do! We spend lots of time at the beach and in the swimming pool, played tennis and beach volleyball, and just hung out. It was great!

I recruited my sister to take some pictures of us at the beach, and she got some pretty good ones!

Ivy thought the sand was great, but wasn't so sure about the water. She also thought the crabs were fun to chase!

Even little Porter got to put his toes in the sand!

"The Tennis Ladies" My sis Monica, me, my counins Aimee and Steph. (We were actually horrible, but we sure had fun! John was playing with us, but he got bored so he went off to play basketball with the guys)

Little Miss Shades in the hot tub. Don't worry we turned the temp down :)

We went to Roanoke Island where they have a replica of the ship Christopher Columbus came to America on. It was tiny, and super chlostrophobic inside.

Just a cool picture John shot of a jelly fish.

Away we go!

Try not to be too jealous, but we're going on a vacation! I know, crazy. Do normal people usually go on vacation in the summer? This is all so new for us. But anyway, please don't give up on our blog- we'll be back with wonderful pictures of the beach, and hopefully a lighthouse or two!

I had jeopardy on while I was making dinner one day last week, and when I came into the living room to see what Ivy was doing, she had pulled a stool right up by the tv and was watching jeopardy. She must really love that trivia!

Porter is getting so strong! He looks like he's about ready to take off whenever I put him on his tummy.

What's Miss Ivy up to these days?

Ivy is really coming into her role as the big sister. She always helps get Porter's car seat ready to go, and occasionally just checks to make sure it's comfy.

She even shares her "babies" with Porter. John won't be too thrilled when he sees this picture!
She can put her shoes on by herself......
....and don't even try to tell her they're on the wrong feet!
But she does have her sweet moments,
And she loves to play with her baby brother!
