My 2 favorite Valentines
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!
Okay, so I know a lot of people don't like V-day, but I have to say that I just love it (no pun intended, hahaha). This morning John left early, but I woke up to find a very sweet card, and the movie Becoming Jane.... he knows me so well! We don't get to see him until late tonight, but Ivy and I still have a fun day planned. We already make cookies, and she got to open her valentine (one of those magnet doodle things). And later today we will probably just read stories and enjoy a snow-day inside.
I also wanted to post a really cute picture of my wonderful husband, and my sweet little girl. I've always been a big fan of Valentine's day (probably mostly because of the cookies and chocolate) but this year feels really special to me because I get to share it with such a great little family, and Ivy is old enough this year to enjoy it. Next year we will be joined by one more, and I'm sure it will be even better! I love you guys!

Ivy's favorite word....
Mommy: "Ivy, can Mommy have a hug?"
Ivy: "NO!"
Ivy: "NO!"
Mommy "Ivy, can Mommy have kisses?"
Ivy: "NO!" - as she runs away
Ivy: "NO!" - as she runs away
Mommy: "Ivy, I love you!"
Ivy: "NO! DADDY!"
Ivy: "NO! DADDY!"
Our little princess actually has quite the vocabulary. She talks and talks all day long... but "no" is definately her favorite word to say. She's serious, too! And she really does love me (I think ) but Daddy's the guy she wants around when she wants to play and be silly. Mommy's the one that takes care of her when she's sad, or when she needs something. Welcome to toddlerhood-101!
Doesn't she just look like a little angel?

Oh what do you do in the winter-time?
This is so sad, but I am already just dying for summer to get here. I have daydreams about taking Ivy to the park, and having picnics, and going for walks, etc.... But unfortunately, it's February - the shortest, but somehow feels like the LONGEST month. So I thought I could use some new ideas of how to keep Ivy entertained. So please leave a comment and tell me what you do with your toddlers when you are stuck inside all day! And while I'm at it I'll give you all a couple of ideas that we use at our house.
1) Play Dough
Ivy loves this- I get out the cookie cutters and plastic utensils and she goes to town. And I like to make my own since the store-bought stuff stinks, and dries out really fast. So here's my recipe:
4 cups flour
1 cup salt
4 cups water
4 tablespoons oil
1/2 cup cream of tartar
Mix all ingredients in a sauce pan. Cook and stir over low/medium heat until play dough is completely formed and no longer sticky. Allow to cool slightly before storing in an air tight container or zip lock bag.
**Add one package of unsweetened powdered Kool-Aid to your playdough to make it smell yummy!
2) Bubbles
Yesterday we went to Wal-Mart and bought a bubble gun, which is the greatest thing ever, because you don't have to deal with spills, and sticky bubble fingers. I let Ivy just go crazy with the bubbles in the kitchen..... and then I proceeded to mop the kitchen floor 3 times (It's still sticky, by the way, but she had a blast).
So bring on the winter play ideas! I can't wait to have some new games to play!
