Piano

Today I had a little bit of free time to just hang out with Tanner, and he was wide awake! He and I decided to play the piano for a bit. He didn't like hyms so much, but when I started playing Mozart he perked right up! I am glad that I get to share my love of music with my kids. I can't wait to see what instruments they decide to play, and how music will impact their lives. Another goal for 2012: make more time for music in the home!

Tanner's Blessing Day

Tanner was blessed in church on January 8th. He looked darling, and was really good for the blessing. I think he enjoyed his big day. We celebrated that afternoon by having some good friends over for lunch. We missed our families, but are so grateful to have such fantastic people around us, to be with us for these big events.

29!

On January 5th I celebrated my 29th birthday! I made myself some brownies, and John bought brownies and chocolate doughnut holes on his way home from work. There was no shortage of chocolate and sugar for this girl! I have been trying to think of some fun things to do during this last year of my 20's. The most wild thing I have thought of so far is to get my hair highlighted. Oh wow, I really have an exciting life, huh? I'll take any suggestions you might have for spicing up my life in 2012!

Our family of 5 and the New Year

We are so happy to be a family of 5! Our favorite thing to do is just hang out together at home. I am thankful that I get to be home with my children. I am also happy to be able to be a support to John while he completes some rigorous training! He is really amazing. I hope that we are developing the type of relationships with our kids that will get them through the difficult situations that will eventually come their way. I am never good at keeping New Years Resolutions, but I decided to set a few goals for 2012. These are goals that will ultimately (hopefully) lead to stronger family relationships, stronger testimonies, and a more happy and peaceful home.
1. We really need to be better about holding weekly Family Home Evening. My problem in the past is that I've tried to complicate the activities too much, so eventually I'm not able to keep up to the standard that I have set for myself, and I stop doing it altogether. So this year, I plan to hold weekly Family Home Evenings. I hope that if I simplify the lessons and activites, I will be able to be more consistent, and have more opportunities to share my testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with my family.
2. One personal goal I work on daily is learning to be more patient with my kids. It is hard to be a mom, and having little kids around all the time can make the best of us go crazy at times! I am not a terribly patient person even in calm situations, so to keep my cool in the midst of chaos has proven to be a challenge! However, I am going to put my best foot forward, and try to do a little better every day. I want to set the type of example for my kids that I would want them to emulate. Man, I love them! The goal here is to show them how much! I have told Ivy and Porter that they are learning to be obedient and kind, and Mommy is learning to be patient! We'll all learn together.
3. My third goal is to be better at taking action! I have a tendency to over-think things, and complicate them to the point that they don't get done. Just as I want to simplify our Family Home Evenings, I want to simplify the rest of my life as well! I hope to be able to set priorities so that I can focus on the things that are most important, to take action when I have a project I want to complete, and to attempt to increase my attention span so that I can actually learn some new skills and finish a few projects this year! Wish me luck on that one!

Cheeks!

We are so in love with our little man's cheeks! They are perfectly chubby, and very kissable. I actually have a hard time staying away from them. He is a good eater, and apparently he's getting some good nutrition. We also like to give fair attention to his double chin. He's doing pretty well for 6 weeks old!Oh Tanner, we love you!

First snow of the season

The day after Christmas, we finally got our first little snowstorm here in Indy! Ivy and Porter got new snow-clothes, so they were really excited to have a chance to put them to use. It's amazing how entertained they were with just a little bit of snow. It wasn't enough to get out the snow-tubes though, so we're anxiously awaiting a bigger storm!

Christmas 2011

We got the best Christmas gift ever this year! Little Tanner had a very nice first Christmas. He really didn't care about the presents though, he just wanted to take a nap.

Cute kids in their new Christmas clothes! They had so much fun. Porter was very excited about Christmas this year, and really seemed to understand (more than he did last year) that Santa came and ate the cookies, and that he is the one who brought the presents. John worked Christmas morning, so the kids were super patient and waited until Daddy got home before they opened their presents.

I waited patiently for my present too....a new camera! I love it, and am having fun trying to figure out how to use it. Here is my first trying-to-be-artsy photo, of our Christmas tree this year. How did I do, photographer friends? I'm learning.
