So for those of you who don't know, we took Callie to the emergency room this past Sunday morning because she had a high fever for a few days, wasn't eating or drinking well, and would often vomit what she did eat. They ended up running a few tests and found out that she had a kidney infection. They gave her antibiotics and IV fluid.
The ER was the worst experience ever for me and I am sure for Callie as well. She had to get a catheter inserted so they could get the urine sample which is a very unpleasant experience. Also it took them about 10 minutes to get the IV into her small little veins. She ended up getting poked 3 times with them fishing around for a couple of minutes with each one trying to get the IV to thread. She was screaming and I was crying. It is awful to have to see your child suffering.
When all was said and done they ended up admitting her to the hospital because she still wouldn't take in fluids on her own so they were worried about her getting dehydrated again.
Callie is lucky that she has such a great family. Everyone was very concerned about her and would check in periodically. My sister Ang came and spent the first night at the hospital with me so Nate could go home and get sleep since he had to work the next day. It was great having her there for company and support. My parents also came up the next afternoon to visit for a few hours. I want to thank everyone for their support and prayers in Callie's behalf.
Well, she spent 3 days, 2 nights in the hospital hooked up to IV fluid and getting antibiotics. They also did an ultrasound of her kidneys to check for problems. Since everything looked normal and she started eating on her own we got to bring her home last night. YAY!! She is now has to take antibiotics 2 times a day for the next 10 days.
There is still one more procedure that she has to get done where they test for something called "reflux" which means that her urine may be going back up the tubes from the bladder and getting into her kidneys. She will probably get that done in a few weeks and we will probably take her up to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake because they will be sedating her for it.
Today she is almost back to her normal self other than she is a little tired. It will probably take her a few days to recover from all of the lack of sleep. Below are some pictures from her stay.
This picture is of Callie in the ER on Sunday. See how miserable she looks. I felt so bad. She is normally such a happy baby, but all she wanted to do was lay on me and have people stop poking and prodding.

This is Callie on day 2. She looks much better than the previous day. Her IV was inserted in her right hand so that was difficult for her since she is right handed (we are pretty sure of that). She would get pretty upset that we wouldn't let her suck on it and she tried to pull on her IV a couple of times. I think the worst part for her was that when she gets sleepy she rubs her eyes and she kept trying to rub her eye with her right hand that was all wrapped up.
