Mother's Day Weekend

Nate is doing a lot of studying lately to prepare for his CFA exam in a few weeks so on Saturday I decided to take the kids out for a while so the house would be quiet.  I talked my sister Cindy into hanging out with me for part of the day.  In the morning we went out to breakfast at IHOP.

After breakfast we went to the store and I let Callie help me pick out flowers to assembly a bouquet to take to their Grandma Ramona's (my mom) grave.

I think the bouquet turned out pretty cute.  We spent the rest of the time hanging out at Grandma Marx's house visiting with their new puppies and then we took the kids to a park so they could feed ducks and play for a while.

Saturday night Nate let me have the "night off."  At 9:30pm I took a Unisom, went down to our guest room, turned on a fan, went to sleep and did not get out of bed until 9:00am the next morning.  I went upstairs to find that Nate had made me breakfast and also that he had to get up with the kids several times in the night and I did not hear a thing.  I should know better than to take a whole Unisom because those things knock me out and I spent the remainder of my Mother's Day feeling drugged.

Below is the gift that Callie and Jace gave me (it was made by Nate at their mutual activity).  They somehow cut off the bottom of small fruit cans and were able to glue them back on.  Inside the can was Skittles, a candle, and ear plugs (I guess there was supposed to be bath salts but they ran out).  It was a really cute idea.

After church we went down and spent Mother's Day with my mom.  The boys did all of the cooking and the women just got to relax. It was a good day.

Callie's Pre-school Graduation Party

This past year, Callie has been participating in a ieghborhood pre-school where all of the moms took turns teaching each week.  This past Monday we did a little Graduation program/party for them.

We did the party at our house in our basement and I built this little stage for them.  I thought it turned out pretty cute.  This pictures was taken after the kids had played all over it so the letters are a little crooked.

This is Callie's class (minus 1 because her parents forgot)

I made these little graduation caps for all of them using foam board and foam bowls with an elastic string to help keep them on.

5 out of the 7 moms who taught this year.  We had a lot of fun.  Kind of sad it is over.

Here is a little slideshow that I put together for the graduation party.

Ward Spring Fling/Talents Show

Our ward does a talent show each year and this year Callie, Nate and I all preformed in it.  It was a lot of fun.  Here are some pictures and videos from the event.

Callie danced with her little dance class to Bibidy Bobidy Boo.

I danced to Footloose with friends from the ward.  You can't see me in the video we took because I was hiding in the back row.  My friend has one where you can see me so if she sends me a copy I will post it later and you can laugh at all my mistakes.  I learned the dance for the first time Tuesday night and we preformed that Saturday so I was a little rusty and missed steps (hence the back row placement).

Nate teaches in the Teachers quorum in Young Men's and he taught them the Hustle, which Nate's Dad taught him when he was probably about that age.

They also had some audience participation time doing the Macarena, so I had my kids join it.

The Zoo

We bought a year pass to the zoo this year, so you will probably be seeing a lot of zoo pictures.  We have already gone 4 times in the 6 weeks since we have had the pass.  My kids absolutely love it.  And it will be even more fun when they open the new portion that is currently under construction.  My favorite time of day to take my kids is to arrive around 4:30pm (the gates close at 5:00pm) and stay for an hour or so.  We can get through everything in that amount of time and right now the zoo is pretty empty at that time.  We will see how things go once summer rolls around.

April

I have been really bad at keeping the blog updated.  Here are some photos of our happenings in April.

We have a cat that loves to come and visit our house.  Our kids love it and go out to look for it everyday.  Jace always says, "Kitty, where are you"  it is really cute.  On this particular day, Nate was out reading in a chair while the kids were playing in the yard. The cat decided it wanted to sit on Nate's lap so it just came over and climbed up and went to sleep.

Jace fell head first into our window well (our ones that are only 2.5 ft deep).  He was in the process of climbing in it, then got distracted by the cat who was leaving and I think he was trying to stand back up, but lost his balance and fell.  He looked pretty beat up like he had been in a fight.

Jace smeared a whole bottle of vaseline all over himself (mostly on his head)

The kids love playing T-Ball in the yard with their daddy.  Callie can even hit when we pitch to her (about 50% of the time)

I bought my kids these foam chairs.  They call them their couches and always have to be sitting in them when watching a show.

I am really sad because I deleted all of my Easter pictures somehow.  This is the only one I have.  These are the eggs my pre-school class decorated.

Callie and Jace attended a glow-in-the dark easter egg hunt where they had fires and the kids could roast marshmellows and make s'mores.  Then after dark the kids hunted for the eggs with their flashlights.

Jace being a monkey.

Seattle

On April 17-22, I had the opportunity to go up to Seattle to visit with Jen and Dave and also help out where needed.  It was so good to see them and visit for a couple of days.  The weather actually was pretty nice most days that I was there.

I flew in on Tuesday  night and on Wednesday was able to go with Jen while she received her round 2 chemo treatment.  It is a long process so we passed the time by visitng, playing scrabble, and watching a movie.  Jen and I both need to improve on our scrabble skills :)  I had a hard time creating words more than 4 letters.

On Friday (I think) Jen and I ran some errands and then went for a drive.  We went to a beach on the sound, walked up a huge hill for exercise and then rested at the top to take in this beautiful view while enjoying blue sunny skies and 65 degree weather.

Saturday was another nice day and Jen felt like having some KFC.  After spending 10 miuntes in the drive through and correcting them on our order a couple of times, we finally got our food and went to a park to eat our dinner and enjoy the beautiful sunset.

Luckily I have the best family in the world and they took shifts watching my kids while I was out of town and Nate had to work.  Thanks you to all of those who helped out and thanks to Nate for taking good care of the kids while I was away.  I was gone for 6 nights of bedtime routine and 5 days.  That is the longest I have been away from either of my children so it was good having such good support.
