Eliza's Blanket from Aunt Anna
Eliza is absolutely in love with the blanket she received from Aunt Anna this week. She has wanted to take it with her everywhere and she carries it around the house all day. After she opened it she said "I will use my new blanky for nap time and it will keep me warm." Sherman's blanky from Aunt Anna has now resurfaced and is also getting a bit of use.

Summer Fun 2009
This post highlights a few of the fun things we have been doing so far this summer. Hope you enjoy.
Backyard Camp Out - May 28, 2009
Sherman was sick for the Father and Son's Camp out this year, so Dad and Sherman camped out in the backyard late in May. Sherman was very excited to use his new sleeping bag.
Eliza began the night with them, but eventually ended up in the house with me. It was probably the best option since it was bound to be a sleepless night for all with her out there. Sherman settled down and went to sleep quickly after Eliza came in the house.
Eliza also has a new sleeping bag which she is "earning" by helping with yard work. This is our attempt to avoid a fight and a meltdown every time Sherman's sleeping bag comes out. And, yes it is working. Now we just have to train her to do odd jobs in the yard.
Enjoying our first cones.

Digging for Dinosaur Bones.

Ground Water Discovery Area.

They have a little log cabin that the kids can play in and cook on an old wood burning stove. This was a favorite. They played in the cabin for about 30 minutes.

Eliza loved the old-fashioned horse and rode it around for quite a while.
Sherman and Eliza really liked the Kool-aid display. They have a little theater where you can watch all of the old Kool-aid commercials. Since going to the Museum we have had Kool-aid as a special treat. Sherman loves it, but Eliza doesn't care for it much.
Outside of the museum is a small Children's Memorial Garden and a cemetery. I really liked the statue in the Garden. We walked around and played on the grass for a bit. It was nice to be outside.

Sherman had a great time out in the fields. The corn was as tall as him and he got bit by several mosquitoes, but he didn't care he just loves being with his Dad.
Yesterday the kids and I went on a Safari Trip. The first park (Terrell Park) we went to was crowded with older kids from a Day Camp and Eliza and Sherman were a little shy about playing. So, we climbed in the car and headed to the Abbott Sports Complex. After finding our rubbing post near the UNL Tennis Complex, we headed for the playground. It was awesome because there was wide open spaces and not a sole in sight. We (yes - including me) had a great time on the play set, sliding, climbing, etc. Eliza wanted to follow Sherman on the big kid stuff, so it was nice that there were no other kids around and I could help her easily. After playing for a while I saw that the sprinklers had come on across on another field. I asked the kids if they wanted to run through the sprinklers and before I got an answer, they took off running. I headed to get the camera and by the time I got back they were soaked. They had so much fun and the big sprinklers did not inhibit them at all.

Here are my two soaking and freezing kids. The play set is behind in the distance. There must be 15-20 Soccer Fields here and the grass is nice. It made me wish that I had brought my cleats and a soccer ball. We may just have to visit this park again soon!

Here is a self portrait of the three of us. I hadn't brought a change of clothes for them since the sprinkler idea was totally spontaneous, so I came up with the idea of running across the field and playing "Red Light Green Light" to help them dry off a bit and warm up. They ran and ran and ran and loved the game. We probably played ten times. They finally dried off some, but the clothes were still sopping, so I stripped them down and they went home in underwear and diaper. I think they thought it was pretty funny and didn't seem to mind a bit. On the way home Sherman suggested that a shower or bath was in order and that watching Signing Time - My Neighborhoold sounded like fun, so that is how we ended a great afternoon.

There are five kids in the class and Sherman and one other boy like to sit on the side until the teacher takes them out for a turn and then they climb back up to their spot. After about 15 minutes today Sherman got a bit braver and got down by the side and practiced bobbing with the other kids. Just before class ended he got water up his nose and got a bit scared, so we will have to see how he does tomorrow.

Ice Cream Cones
Sherman and Eliza are becoming fans of ice cream cones. They are often requested for a Family Home Evening Treat.
Hastings, Nebraska - June11, 2009
We have taken a couple of trips out to Clay Center with Dad this year. While Dad was working in the fields, we went into Hastings to play. The Hastings Museum has been a lot of fun. They have a very nice display of animals, birds, antique cars and much more. They also have a planetarium where you can watch a star show (we've only been once, it scared Eliza a bit, but Sherman loved it.) They also have a children's area that's lots of fun and a display about Kool-aid, which was invented in Hastings, Nebraska.
Clay Center, Nebraska - June 24, 2009
On our second trip out with Dad, I didn't take any pictures at the Museum but we had a great time again. Dad was still rating an experiment when we arrived back at Clay Center, so Sherman followed him around while I sat with a sleeping Eliza in the car.
Lincoln Safari 2009 (Abbott Sports Complex - Lincoln, NE) - June 30, 2009

I just love this picture of Sherman!
Our New Table - June 30, 2009
After showers and a movie, we set up the new card table I bought for the kids. Sherman was very excited and said, "It's just my size, I can reach!" The kids had fun coloring and playing on the table while I did a few things in the kitchen. I am very excited about this table and hope the kids will enjoy doing little projects on it in the future.
Sherman also started swimming lessons this week. He is having a great time and has never been so cheerful in the morning. He is excited every day and can't wait to get there. The first two days Eliza and I ran some errands so he could settle in on his own. But today we stayed and watched. He was having a great time and is becoming more comfortable in the water.
