Halloween - 2009

I know it's hard to believe that I am posting these so quickly, but occasionally miracles do happen. Sherman and Eliza had a great time this Halloween and looked quite cute if I do say so myself. They got to wear their costumes twice this year - Eliza would have worn hers every day this month if we would have let her. We went to Boo at the Zoo on Monday with the Searle Family and had a great time. We even rode the train which was dressed up as a ghost. (Unfortunately I forgot my camera that night.)

Today we started the day with Pancakes and Ice Cream for breakfast in honor of Aunt Sarah and Grandpa Sherman's (Gibbs') birthdays. Yummy! And Happy Birthday. Sherman was so sweet when we told him that his Grandpa Sherman shared a Birthday with Aunt Sarah and he reminded us that Grandpa Sherman is up in Heaven. He is such a tender little guy.

This evening we went to the Ward Trunk or Treat. The kids played games in the gym while the adults got their cars ready. We didn't do too much decorating - just displayed our pumpkins in the back of the van. But, we did get a lot of compliments on them. After the Trunk or Treat we went home for a quick dinner and then Dad took the kids around the neighborhood and up to Dave and Helen Brooks for a bit more Trick or Treating. And, now we have more candy than we know what to do with. Sherman is a bit more interested in it this year, but Eliza still doesn't care as much about it - which is definitely a blessing. I guess my Seminary students might get treats every week until it is gone. I'm sure they won't mind!

Both the kids got to be their favorite thing for Halloween this year. Sherman is still really into Thomas the Tank Engine. I was so excited to find his costume at a consignment shop for $3.50 - You can tell from the picture below that he is also very excited about his costume! Hopefully he will still like it next year (I don't think he will outgrow it - at least it would be quite a stretch.)

Eliza is "Lumpy" the Heffalump from Winnie the Pooh. She just loves "Lumpy" (and even has an Elephant that she sleeps with every night that she calls "Lumpy"). If you ask her what "Lumpy" says, she will say "taroot". Thanks to my sister Christy who let us borrow this costume that her son Jake wore last year. It was a perfect fit.

Dad even dressed up for the Trunk or Treat in his African attire.

This is the Lewis Family in our ward. Their little girl Sophie is wearing Eliza's Monkey Costume that Grandma Gibbs made a couple of years ago. We were so happy for someone to wear it again. Isn't she cute. Her parents, Anna and Chis are the "trees". What a great idea!

Getting ready for a bit of Trick or Treating.

In these last two pictures you can see the Halloween decorations that the kids and I made. They did the coloring and I cut them out and put contact paper on them. Today we decorated the door so everyone would know we were ready for Halloween!

Bernards' Family Halloween Party - October 30, 2009

On Friday, we had a little family Halloween Party. We have been planning this for a while and Sherman was sooo excited about decorating his pumpkins that we grew in our garden in the backyard. (And boy oh boy is he excited about gardening. He prayed almost every day that our garden would grow -- that's probably why our Zucchini Plants were so big and took over half the garden.) Anyway, the day finally came to decorate the pumpkins. Sherman was very serious and detailed about how he wanted his pumpkins to look. Dad helped him and they turned out spectacular. Eliza on the other hand was a giggly, spacey, jumpy two year old who was happy to let Mom help her with her two pumpkins. We let Dad use his creativity to solo on the last one. Below are a few pictures.

Waiting in line to get a mouth.

The finished Pumpkins!

For our party treat we melted caramels and dipped apple slices. Yum Yum! Eliza didn't care much for the caramels but she loved the apples. Sherman loved dipping his apples in the caramel.

Hiatus Over

After a long hiatus from blogging, I am back once again. We've had a very busy Summer and Fall so far. I will post some more pictures of our happenings in posts below. Here are a few recent pictures of Sherman and Eliza. They are growing up so fast!

Husker Harvest Days - September 2009

In September, we joined Mark in Grand Island, Nebraska at Husker Harvest Days for an afternoon. The Kids had a great time trying out the tractors and other vehicles. They were most excited about seeing Dad of course. We stayed the night with Dad at his hotel and had a great time swimming and just being with Dad!

The Frasure's Move

In September, our friends the Frasure's moved to North Dakota. We miss them lots. Sherman talks about Mason all the time. We hope they will come visit soon! Here are a few pictures of the kids.

Babysitting Mason one day in May so Mom and Dad could go to the Temple.

The Frasure's stayed with us for a couple of nights before heading to North Dakota. Eric was Mark's first Masters Student to graduate.

Sherman and Mason had matching pajamas. Aren't they cute!

Our Favorite "Daddy Bishop"

In September, Mark was called as Bishop of our ward in Lincoln. Needless to say, life has become a little more crazy. The kids cherish any moment they can get with him. Early mornings have been one way they get to see a bit more of him.

They are both slowly becoming used to the idea of Daddy being Bishop. After church each Sunday they hurry to his office for a treat. Last Sunday, Eliza sang "I'm going to see Daddy Bishop" all the way to his office.

I'm Stuck

"Mom, I'm stuck!" Sherman climbed inside one of the toy boxes and couldn't get out!

First Snow - October 2009

We had our first snow in October this year. It was very exciting for the kids. We got all bundled up and headed outside for some fun.

Helping Daddy clean off his car was great fun!

And, they couldn't wait to go sledding!

The happy sledders!

Joy School - 2009

In Joy School the kids have been learning about the Four Seasons. The last time it was at our house, I had the kids dress up in clothes that you would wear in each season. They had lots of fun as you can tell from the smiles.

Can you tell who is which season?
