Ouch! - Thank Goodness for Strong Bones
About a week and a half ago, Eliza pulled our 19" TV over on her. She was very lucky not to have more than a large hematoma below her left knee. I heard the crash and came running downstairs. She had been watching a movie, was mad that it was over and wanted another one. She tried to climb up to the DVD player by pulling herself up on the TV. I knew immediately that he was not seriously hurt because she was more concerned about another movie than her knee. The Lord must have blessed her with strong bones - and we are grateful! She has been hobbling around a bit since then due to a very tender knee, but it looks to be healing just fine. Below are a few pictures of the large knot.

January 2009 - Trip to California - Day 3
Okay, so I'm still catching up for the year and you can see that I am still really far behind. But, there are so many cute pictures that I didn't want you all to miss them. If you want to see Days 1 and 2 of the trip I posted that back in June I think.
Little Corona - Tide Pools - January 8, 2009
We spent the morning at the tide pools in Corona Del Mar with Aunt Kerilyn. The kids hiking down the steep path and we had a great time on the Beach (it's hard to believe it was January, but we had such great weather while we were there.) It took Eliza a bit to warm up to the idea of wading in the water, but she eventually did and loved it. I took some pictures of the tide pools, but you can't really see anything so I didn't post them. It was a great day to see the tide pools though. We saw some fish, snails, crabs and other crustaceans, too. We ate lunch on a little grassy spot at the top of the hill on our way back from the beach and then spent the rest of the day at Grandma Gibbs' and went swimming in her pool.

If Sherman can do it so can I!
January 2009 - Trip to California - Day 4
California Adventure - January 9, 2009
Day four was spent at California Adventure. It was so nice to have three adults for two kids. Kerilyn, Grandma and I took turns sitting with napping kids or taking Sherman on different rides that Eliza was too small for and we got to go on most of the bigger rides that we wanted to. The kids had a great time. Below are a few pictures.

January 2009 - Trip to California - Day 5-6
Days 5-6 were a bit more relaxed. We went down to the Huntington Beach Pier and had Breakfast at Ruby's at the end of the Pier on Saturday and walked around downtown a bit. Then we went swimming in the afternoon and watched movies. Sunday we went to church with a Grandma and just relaxed. We also saw Aunt Kerilyn off to Boise. We were all sad to see her go!

San Diego Zoo - January 12, 2009
On Monday we headed to San Diego with Grandma Gibbs and to the Zoo. It was so much fun. I just love this Zoo (having spent a lot of time there as a kid). Sherman and Eliza really like Zoos and they had a great time here. There is so much to see. We took the Bus tour and sat up top and were able to see most everything. We also rode the sky ride and spent a lot of time walking. The kids were really tired by the time we left. We kept them awake until we could get some dinner, then we headed home. They both fell asleep and went straight to bed when we got home. Yeah!
Tuesday we stayed close to home - played at the park behind Grandma's and went swimming again. It was like 80 degrees in January. Wouldn't happen in Nebraska.
Here we are in the Children's Petting Zoo. It was very different from our Zoo here in Lincoln where you just feed the goats from behind the fence. Eliza loved being in with the goats. She was not shy at all and we had a bit of a struggle getting her to leave. Sherman was a bit more timid, but eventually warmed up to the idea and even petted a few goats.

We ate lunch in a picnic area and the kids loved playing on this little carousel.

We bought a few books last year and this year from the gift shop that teach young children a bit about specific animals. Sherman and Eliza just love to read them and look forward to seeing certain animals. Below are a few pictures of some of their favorites.

Day 9 - Sea World - Trip #1
I really was excited about taking the kids to Sea World this trip. It was one of my favorite places as a kid and has some unique features that a Zoo doesn't. The kids absolutely loved it and since they were having a promotion - Buy 1 Day get the whole year free - we went back a second day.
The Seal and Sea Lion Show.

Both kids loved the petting pools. They both tried to feed and touch the Dolphins and weren't scared at all to do it.

Come a little closer please!
While I was taking this picture Eliza actually got to touch the Dolphin. It was hard to get a good angle to take the picture. Sherman also was able to touch the dolphin once too. We also had our picture taken with a dolphin after the Dolphin show. Once I locate the picture I will scan it in and post it. It looks pretty cool.
Trying to touch the Sting Rays.

The play area has changed quite a bit from when I was a kid but some things are still the same. The little jumping area that Eliza is playing on above is still the same. And the nets below were there too. Sherman, Eliza and I climbed all the way up these nets and then came down some slides. They both did really well.

The Shamu Show was their favorite. We were always the last ones to leave the show. Sherman and Eliza were just intrigued by these whales. They always hoped to get one more look. Grandma Gibbs was nice and bought each of them a stuffed Shamu which they both play with just about every day still. Their newest game lately is playing sharks and Shamu and their stuffed Dolphins that I got for them get to play with them every time they play it.
We did have a day at Grandma's in between our two Sea World outings. The kids seemed to need a day to take it easy after all of our big outings. So my friend Stephanie and her twins came over and went to the park with us that morning and then we went swimming once again in the afternoon.
Day 11 - Sea World Trip #2
Here we are again. In addition to the shows we spent some time in the play area this time.

Model Train Rides - January 17, 2009
About 5 minutes from Grandma's house is an over-sized model train track where model train rides are offered every third Saturday of the month for free. The trains have been there for a long time but for some reason we never knew about it when we were growing up. It was the perfect activity for our little Sherman. And, Eliza enjoyed it too. Each ride lasted about 10 minutes. There were bridges to go under and over and several times we even switched tracks. There were several different trains and we even got to ride on one that had a little steam engine. It was all very exciting.
We rode several times before going home for lunch. We put Eliza down for her nap and I took Sherman back for a few more rides. It was a great day, but long. We were grateful for a day of rest on Sunday.
